New X64 Laptop Will Not Run Programs Transferred From Old X86?
Aug 4, 2010
My new X64 laptop will not run programs transferred from my old X86 based computers. The current program sources are also X86 based with no alternative. Is there any way that the X86 programs can be adapted to X64 processors? My new computer is HP, whereas the old ones are Toshiba, I have never had this problem before between different computer manufacturers.
My desktop tower works but i cant connect it to a moniter i would like to transfer many programs and files if i use a usb will my desktops info pop up and i can pick and choose what i would like on my laptop or use a m stick? Howdo i pick and choose what goes in the laptop?how can i view the harddrive on the memory stick and if i use one?
The folder 'My Pictures" disappeared while everything was being transferred from one laptop to another. Where can I look for it on the old laptop? or the new laptop?
I transferred photos from an old PC to a new one with Windows 7. Many of the transferred photos show up not as photos but in the Windows Live Gallery as a Microsoft logo. Clicking on it and Windows Media Center opens op, but not on a specific photo.I can't tell which ones are hidden this way. Many were scanned and others saved from other email sources.
The Easy Transfer created 7 .mig files of which only 3 have been moved from my external hard drive to my C drive. All 7 are still in the external hard drive including the 3 in the C drive. How do I get them to finish transferring to my C drive. This is what I have to do-right?
I purchased an HP system with a 2T hdd running Windows 7 Home Premium. I purchased a 128gb SSD drive since I'm a speed freak. I am running a dual boot with 2 separate drives with Windows 7 Ultimate on the SSD and keeping the same setup HP sent me. The 2T drive will pretty much be used for storage but I want to keep the OS on it in case I have a warranty issue. On another note, I am also running on UEFI.After days figuring out how to load the Windows Ultimate on my SSD using UEFI, I thought everything was fine. Yesterday I loaded the OS from the SSD and transferred some movie files to the 2T HDD. Later on when I started the computer, chkdsk came on and it started deleting all the movie files I had transferred. Today I loaded into the 2T OS and noticed Norton Antivirus was corrupted. I uninstalled Norton on the 2T since I won't be using that OS much anyways. What I also did was go into the folder where I transferred the movie files into and changed the security to accept me as an Administrator.I have then loaded the files back and chkdsk has not come back on. What I am scared of is if it does it again in the future, I may lose everything. What I am going to be doing is moving my user profile on the SSD to the 2T HDD since my SSD is only 128gb.Is Norton the culprit?
I change date in my excel file. I drag it to an SD card for back up or put it on my network to share with my other computers. The new changes are not saved in the transfered files. I must delete the old file on the SD card or the networked computers first.
I read somewhere on the forum that to save all your Outlook 2007 emails, you have to save the "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.pst" file.
I have saved this file as well as the whole folder, but after installing Windows 7, I tried to put all the files in the same spot, yet Outlook creates its own "Outlook1.pst" file and ignores the one I put in. I tried to import as well with no luck. I only had about 10 emails but they were job related and pretty important. Can someone please help?
I had a computer with Windows Vista, which was developing some problems, so I bought a new machine, which runs Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12. I used EasyTransfer to transfer files to the new machine, and the music files are there -- I can see them in Windows Explorer. But WMP is only aware of some of the files. If I double-click a music file in Explorer, WMP will play it, and then it will show up in the library, but I have so many music files that double-clicking, and playing, every single one is not a great option. How do I get WMP to recognize all the files?
I'm having an issue with the creation/modification date of .mov video files on my computer. Simply, they both keep changing to the current date/time when I transfer them to my computer.
For example, if I transfer my .mov videos from my Canon camera via USB to my computer (copy from one, paste into the other), both the created date AND the modified date in Windows 7 becomes the current date/time that I'm transferring them instead of the date/time they were actually shot (which is indeed on the file in the camera). All other video types from other cameras or the like (MP4, MPG, WMV, etc.) don't do this. In fact, I've never experienced this with any of my movie files before and have always been able to see the time they were shot because the created and the modified dates will be when they were shot (and only one changes when I move them).
.mov files automatically get the current date/time for both the created date AND the modified date meaning a video shot and dated weeks ago on the camera appears like I shot it right now when it's transferred to my computer.
I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 thing with .mov files or a Canon thing. I've posted in a Canon forum and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about so I'm assuming it can't be that widespread. I just don't know where to go with this and it's driving me insane. I hate that I can't tell when my videos from a trip or whatnot were actually shot. It looks like they were all shot at the exact same moment weeks after I got back!
My daughter has a toshiba external hard drive and is trying to transfer her Windows XP data into her new computer with Windows 7. It appears her files were transferred onto her new desktop, but when she tries to open the files, the computer tells her that it does not recognize the type of file and can't be opened. All the files are the same "file type" NRP? or NPR?
my laptop has just recently been fixed and I realized a few programs, like the touch pad lighting up when placing your finger on it, and the sound buttons go loud and quieter at a very small speed. I also noticed every now and then the typing takes me off of where I was typing.
I've restarted it multiple times. I have an HP Windows & Home Premium. I've also done a system restore. About 20 mins after turning it on, some the programs I'm running will either slow way down, close, or freeze. When I check for problems I get this:
Windows Problem: Shut down unexpectedly Files that help describe the problem: 101111-26832-01.dmp sysdata.xml WERInternalMetadata.xml
I have a HP Pavilion DV6-6009TX, I bought it last year during april. Initially, it was doing ok, but starting this year around February, the programs that I launch seems to be not responding every now and then. Even microsoft word, it freezes for a good 10-20 seconds everytime I save a document, and when I type halfway, it will stop responding and resume after around 15 seconds. The problem is even worst when I try to play games. The game will spike every 5 seconds, making it unplayable. What is wrong with my laptop?
well my laptop was performing fine until a few weeks ago it started to freeze up during some games which it didnt before. I play games a lot so i thought my laptop had lost it efficiency but there are other games where everything is smooth.
I have done the "dxdiag","updating drivers", "windows memory diagnostics","windows update" and so on but everything seems fine. I have been going through enough posts so i think my system specifications is required.
My laptop is Sony Vaio C series 4 GB RAM AMD Radeon HD 6630M i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz windows 7 home premium 64 bit directx 11
Currently the programs/games that lags are vlc player(movies dont run as smooth as it used to), World of Warcraft, Counter Strike (offline or online). However games that requires higher graphics like Assasin's creed works just fine.
I bought a new Samsung laptop a week ago. I haven't loaded any of my own programs yet, since I want to uninstall all the unnecessary stuff. I don't know which programs are safe to uninstall though, and which ones are necessary... (4GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive, Windows 7 OS).
I uninstalled some programs that i didn't use anymore, like games, video converters, audio converters and quicktime and now my laptop's display keeps goes back to the default settings and a few of my programs cannot work. (like steam)I use an Asus x42j with windows 7, i7 and a 1 gb graphics card.
Paul Thurrott (Windows 7 Secrets) recommends a clean install on a Vista system. Since I have a HP dv9000 Pavilion Entertainment Laptop Computer, it is capabable of running Windows 7. I have ordered the upgrade version of Windows 7 Professional (since I have Windows Vista Business).
My concern is that with a clean installation, I will lose the installed HP programs that came with the laptop (HP Connect, HP Advisor, etc.). What is the best way of getting those programs. HP technical support was absolutely of no help.
First I told her she needs to clear out some space of all her homemade videos. Then I wanted to go into Add Remove programs but every time I go in it freezes. I even tried it in safe mode but it seems to freeze up even more. I ran cCleaner which cleaned over 1000 MB. I ran SuperAntispyware which found nothing. I tried to run Malwarebytes but it froze after 2 minutes. I took some items out of start up but there are a ton of Toshiba programs listed, but I have no idea if they are necessary or not. Some items I am not sure if she needs or not: Blekko Anti Phishing Domain Advisor Every time I attempt something now her laptop freezes and I have to reboot.I can't even go into Task Manager to stop Malwarebytes or Add Remove Programs when they freeze.
iIt's a Toshiba Satelite L735D Windows 7 Home 4 GB RAM
Windows 7 Labtop, 64 bit. Doing a bit of cleaning and noticed all the programs opening on start-up, which do I actually need?

I've been having this problem with my laptop for a long time now its an hp pavillion dv4-4068LA. I just restored my system because it was very slow despite having tuneup utilities 2013 working on disabling start up programs. Everything was great when I restored my system until I started installing programs again including tuneup utilities and it actually did more damage than good to my start ups so I decided to permanently uninstall the program and do everything with Windows functions like msconfig and stuff. My startups are way faster now but not as good as they used to be, after 10 minutes of using my computer everything becomes really fast like the old times but I would like to have this speed right at the start up because I know it's possible.
I am a trainer and my programs over the years have been created in 16 & 32 bit programs. When I bought my new laptop, I bought the updated programs to go with 64-bit. However, they will not pull my training files that are in 16 and 32 bit. What do I do to get the new laptop to accept my training programs and the created files?
So i have had it for like a month now and i got it from a We Buy Gold shop something like a pawn store so it was basically used. The laptop was working fine fast and well i downloaded games such as mmo's grand chase and i played that and it ran really well no problems. Sometimes the game would have problems and i would have to press the power button to reset it and i did maybe like 20 times i know thats bad. And now for dome reason when i log into my laptop it would take a while for the windows screen to load and then i would be logged into my laptop i would go on google chrome and use the internet watch videos after about 5-8 good minutes google chrome would load slow and then clompetely stop loading and i would exit and google chrome and re-launch it after i re-launch it it wont come up and i would try launching other programs such as control panel or any of my mmo's and they wont even appear and then when i try pressing mutiple application at a time the cpu would freeze. It was way worse before sometimes i couldn't get past the windows log in loading screen i would be loading for like and hour and I would have to power rest AGAIN. My Windows 7 Dell laptop programs won't respond after 5 minutes
Asus has some way of starting their programs that I can't find. In particular, I want to disable their Wireless Console 3 (wcourier.exe). There are other programs but I can't remember what they are right now. I can only tell you that is does not show up in msconfig or HJT. Where I can find these startup entries?
I recently had to wipe out my hard drive and re instal. Ever since I cannot hear with my head phones plugged in. the sound on the lap top has also reduced considerably.
I am trying to restore my dads Toshiba Satellite laptop to a good state as it has been running for years without any regular service and was running extremely slow.So far I have - - Restored laptop to factory settings - Installed Avast Antivirus Free - Installed over 100 'important updates' from Windows Updates - Defragmented hard drive - Run Avast thought a Boot-time Scan - Run TDSSKiller...and unwisely run ComboFix witThe computer now seems to run faster than it was (although this seems to fluctuate), and all the tests I've ran have come up with no signs of spyware/malware, but the laptop still seems to shut down unexpectedly whenever I try to run an anti spyware/malware program when the laptop is already running in a normal windows start-up.I also have Malwarebytes installed which I'm sure I've tried to run already unsuccessfully ('i've been trying to sort this laptop out since lastnight), but most recently, I installed/run Glary Utilities 'one-click' solution and all seemed to be going well until the 'spyware checker' started to run, after which the laptop shut down again.
So over the past few days it seems that I have lost control of my C drive and all of its contents.I can no longer properly access it, and everything opens in "Read-Only". I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.
Today I decided to install some stuff on my computer as it was out of date..I installed Java, Flash player and adobe reader X but when I go to add/remove they are not showing up in that section?
