My new X64 laptop will not run programs transferred from my old X86 based computers. The current program sources are also X86 based with no alternative. Is there any way that the X86 programs can be adapted to X64 processors? My new computer is HP, whereas the old ones are Toshiba, I have never had this problem before between different computer manufacturers.
The folder 'My Pictures" disappeared while everything was being transferred from one laptop to another. Where can I look for it on the old laptop? or the new laptop?
When I plug in my 8 GB PNY Metal-CPC719N USB drive on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5735Z) I get the "USB Device not recognised" problem.
When I check device management to see whether it is an assignment issue, it is not in the list and regardless of the slot it is placed in, I receive the same message.
However, when I plug it into my tower (Custom built) I do not receive this message and it loads instantaneously. For the record, both are running Windows 7 Ultimate, wih he laptop in 32-Bit and my Tower in 64-Bit.
Trying to get old music files from old tower computer with out monitor transfered to my laptop. Tried to use cable cord that you would use to hook up computer to tv and screen just got smaller. Can't find tower on my laptop??????
I transferred photos from an old PC to a new one with Windows 7. Many of the transferred photos show up not as photos but in the Windows Live Gallery as a Microsoft logo. Clicking on it and Windows Media Center opens op, but not on a specific photo.I can't tell which ones are hidden this way. Many were scanned and others saved from other email sources.
The Easy Transfer created 7 .mig files of which only 3 have been moved from my external hard drive to my C drive. All 7 are still in the external hard drive including the 3 in the C drive. How do I get them to finish transferring to my C drive. This is what I have to do-right?
I purchased an HP system with a 2T hdd running Windows 7 Home Premium. I purchased a 128gb SSD drive since I'm a speed freak. I am running a dual boot with 2 separate drives with Windows 7 Ultimate on the SSD and keeping the same setup HP sent me. The 2T drive will pretty much be used for storage but I want to keep the OS on it in case I have a warranty issue. On another note, I am also running on UEFI.After days figuring out how to load the Windows Ultimate on my SSD using UEFI, I thought everything was fine. Yesterday I loaded the OS from the SSD and transferred some movie files to the 2T HDD. Later on when I started the computer, chkdsk came on and it started deleting all the movie files I had transferred. Today I loaded into the 2T OS and noticed Norton Antivirus was corrupted. I uninstalled Norton on the 2T since I won't be using that OS much anyways. What I also did was go into the folder where I transferred the movie files into and changed the security to accept me as an Administrator.I have then loaded the files back and chkdsk has not come back on. What I am scared of is if it does it again in the future, I may lose everything. What I am going to be doing is moving my user profile on the SSD to the 2T HDD since my SSD is only 128gb.Is Norton the culprit?
I change date in my excel file. I drag it to an SD card for back up or put it on my network to share with my other computers. The new changes are not saved in the transfered files. I must delete the old file on the SD card or the networked computers first.
I read somewhere on the forum that to save all your Outlook 2007 emails, you have to save the "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.pst" file.
I have saved this file as well as the whole folder, but after installing Windows 7, I tried to put all the files in the same spot, yet Outlook creates its own "Outlook1.pst" file and ignores the one I put in. I tried to import as well with no luck. I only had about 10 emails but they were job related and pretty important. Can someone please help?
I bought the Lego Robotics System some years ago and since some months I use it again with Java + Eclipse + Lejos but the problem is since I have Windows 7 the USB Tower doesn't work because I only have Drivers for XP.
Do you have any idear how I can get it to work on Windows 7?
I had a computer with Windows Vista, which was developing some problems, so I bought a new machine, which runs Windows 7 and Windows Media Player 12. I used EasyTransfer to transfer files to the new machine, and the music files are there -- I can see them in Windows Explorer. But WMP is only aware of some of the files. If I double-click a music file in Explorer, WMP will play it, and then it will show up in the library, but I have so many music files that double-clicking, and playing, every single one is not a great option. How do I get WMP to recognize all the files?
I'm having an issue with the creation/modification date of .mov video files on my computer. Simply, they both keep changing to the current date/time when I transfer them to my computer.
For example, if I transfer my .mov videos from my Canon camera via USB to my computer (copy from one, paste into the other), both the created date AND the modified date in Windows 7 becomes the current date/time that I'm transferring them instead of the date/time they were actually shot (which is indeed on the file in the camera). All other video types from other cameras or the like (MP4, MPG, WMV, etc.) don't do this. In fact, I've never experienced this with any of my movie files before and have always been able to see the time they were shot because the created and the modified dates will be when they were shot (and only one changes when I move them).
.mov files automatically get the current date/time for both the created date AND the modified date meaning a video shot and dated weeks ago on the camera appears like I shot it right now when it's transferred to my computer.
I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 thing with .mov files or a Canon thing. I've posted in a Canon forum and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about so I'm assuming it can't be that widespread. I just don't know where to go with this and it's driving me insane. I hate that I can't tell when my videos from a trip or whatnot were actually shot. It looks like they were all shot at the exact same moment weeks after I got back!
does anyone one have any ideas on how to upgrade the psu on my acer aspire X3812. I want to upgrade the graphics card but it wont run on 220w. Does anyone know of a new pc case that maybe i can upgrade to or even a new psu unit that is 300w or above. I have looked at new cases but they need details of the board etc and i dont know it. I have little knowledge about this
My PC kept giving me errors on boot about a memory problem but stupidly, I didnt write them down. The errors on boot only happened twice and then boom, just a black screen of nothing on boot. I do get ONE beep which I am told is good. My very strong suspicion is that the RAM modules have failed. My machine takes DIMM DDR3 RAM (4 slots) so I figure I should just buy another set of 4 which I found on ebay for like $50. Now, I did swap the RAM modules around, and tried to boot from just 2 modules but still nothing. I know its virtually impossible to offer advice with such scant information in this post but would you also think that it is a RAM issue? Worst case it isnt and I just re-sell the RAM on ebay. One beep is a good thing though from a mother board point of view right?
building a computer tower all out of plexiglass, everything would be made with 3/4' plexiglass. I would make a back panel out of 1/2' sheet of metal where the mother board would mount onto it's a "Asus P8P67 WS Revolution: Intel P67 Express, Nvidia NF200 PCIe Bridge, LGA 1155". The power supply would be an "OCZ-Z1000M: 1000W Modular, ATX12V v2.2, EPS12V, 80 PLUS Gold". Would be installing a H70 CPU cooler onto a 2600k cpu. Will also be running about six fans about 120mm in size.
I do not have internet service at my house unless I connect laptop by smart phone hot spot. I would like to have wifi on my pc tower. Did not realize it did not have it until I got the phone. Thought all new equip had wifi. My error. how I can either add something to pc tower to get wifi signal from smart phone or from my neighbor(best friend) who lives about 1000 feet away but a wooded area separates us. If I could pick up her wifi, I could download printer driver to printer that is connected to home pc.
My daughter has a toshiba external hard drive and is trying to transfer her Windows XP data into her new computer with Windows 7. It appears her files were transferred onto her new desktop, but when she tries to open the files, the computer tells her that it does not recognize the type of file and can't be opened. All the files are the same "file type" NRP? or NPR?
computer is a windows 7 home premium 32 bit . My friend built it for me and im not very great with computers but i usually leave my computer on. It works fine its a great system and one day when i left with my friends to go fishing it was on but when i came back the next day it was off. So i went to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it , plugged it back in and made sure the outlet was working . There are two buttons near the plug one that sais 115 and 230 and another one that has A , H , D i think or A , L , D but the switch for the first one is covering the 230 and 115 is showing . I have the O, I On I i made sure but even when i click the power button nothing will start. Theres a green light on the inside thats just a solid green light. Ive read around and people say that , that means the tower is receiving power. So i dont know what it is .. i have no real smarts with computers so i wont know how to remove anything from the inside or anything but i know that the fans are working i have 3 on the computer to keep it fine. I spun them and there all still fine. But there may have been a power outage while their gone could that have caused my system to stop working
Last night after stupidly performing a hard shut down (held the power button for about 5 seconds), I turned my computer on this morning to hear a strange thumping sound coming from my tower. I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a Seagate (I think, I can't quite remember) hard drive with 720 GB, and the three options that I see are as follows.
The only one that I can think of that could make a sound that loud is the large fan at the back. If I remember correctly, it's the one responsible for cooling the whole tower (I really hope it isn't this). Hard drive is fried from the hard shut down. I'm not quite sure how to describe the sound other than a "thump thump thump" or a "wub wub wub wub" sound. My computer's specs are as follows.
720 GB SATA hard drive 4 GB RAM
ASUS Motherboard (can't remember the model number and don't have access to it right now) **It is an all-in-one motherboard, so my video and sound cards are included with it.Intel Processor running at 2.7 GHz (can't remember the model number and don't have access to it right now)
For a normal tower computer without super duty fan has anyone ever bothered to determine at what ~ height off a carpeted floor will the fan suck significantly less carpet dust into the machine?
Replaced my VGA cable with and HDMI cable because screen wouldn't leave power save mode due to lack of communication between tower and screen. HDMI solves that. Now I have no internet connection. No signs of life. Cable guy comes over plugs his laptop into the..box thing where the internet comes from... says the internet is working fine must be your computer and he leaves. So now that my screen is working I can trouble shoot - can't find a network adapter. I have no idea what that means, and it is not listed anywhere on my control panel list of drivers and things. Tried to reinstall whatever that is.. which is hard when your just guessing and clicking things. Bottom line is after using the drivers and devices disc and reinstalling everything that said "network" in the title there is still no signs of life. I don't have wireless so the whole adapter thing isn't making sense either.
I have a HP laptop and a custom built desktop both running Windows 7. I have both devices networked together and both share files through the Windows 7 Home Group or through my NAS. There are many times when I am on my laptop and want to switch over to my desktop or vice versa. My desktop has multiple displays which got me thinking about extended desktops. Is there any possible way to set up a connection between both computers so that a program or software that is installed on both computers could be dragged from the laptop screen over to my desktop screen?
A failing laptop with Windows 7 installed on the internal HDD A computer with Ubuntu currently installed on the internal HDD (it's free!) An enclosure and USB cable for the laptop hard drive
What I'm trying/want to do:
Put the laptop HDD in the enclosure, connect via USB to the desktop, boot Windows 7 on the desktop from the enclosure and use all the currently installed programs on the laptop HDD with their current settings.
What happens:
With the HDD in the enclosure and connected to the desktop, I power up the desktop. Going straight to the boot menu, I select the new option which is labelled something like "USB-HDD0". "Starting Windows" appears as expected, followed after a bit by the logo, but then the desktop restarts before reaching anything the blue patterned default screen before login options.
Extra info:
When I replace the laptop HDD back into the laptop and boot, everything still works fine. Windows Startup Repair cannot find a problem (big surprise!) If possible I'd like to avoid the hassle of clean installs etc.
My desktop have a big monitor and I'm able to connect my laptop to it but the problem is I would be using a lot of energy and stuff. Is there a way I can close the laptop or what ever and just use the desktop but with laptop turned on?
