HDD - How To Block Off Specific Areas From Use
Aug 15, 2012I made a post awhile back about a HDD making clicks, as though the arm was resetting. Occasionally while accessing files explorer freezes. I however noticed this has (so far) only occurred at a specific point of disk usage.I'm hoping I can some how amputate the bad section of the drive so it is never read or written to, or even seen for that matter. There are no disk errors in a scan, so I just want to cut a chunk out of it and hope for the best. Is there a safe way to do this?

Jul 6, 2009I've installed Virtual PC Beta on Windows 7 and have installed Vista SP1 on it. When clicking with the mouse on the lower left corner (ie Start button) or top right corner (ie close button on maximized window) it does not work. Everywhere else mouse clicks comes through just like they should. Anyone else experiencing the same, or even better, has a solution?

May 22, 2011I recently reformatted my PC and have noticed that areas which properly supported Unicode beforehand no longer do. For example, although Unicode text shows correctly in the majority of Windows Explorer, when I right click on files to view the properties the text field that shows the file name isn't rendering it correctly. This also propagates into some parts of other applications which previously had Unicode support, such as Winamp. I have a vast collection of East Asian music so this is more than a minor inconvenience for me.

Cursor Beam Doesn't Move With Arrow Keys In Text Areas
Dec 10, 2012Since I find it much faster to move the "beam" cursor around with the arrow keys (and CTRL+Arrow key to jump over whole words), I frequently use that instead of the mouse to reposition the cursor, handy if I want to go back a few words and add or change something.
However on many sites, using the arrow keys fails to move the beam, yet the actual input position does change.
For example, I'll press "CRTL+Left Arrow" a few times to jump back three words. On the screen the beam stops flashing but stays put, yet if I start to type the typing starts where the beam should have ended up if it moved properly.
Lego USB Tower
Feb 3, 2009I bought the Lego Robotics System some years ago and since some months I use it again with Java + Eclipse + Lejos but the problem is since I have Windows 7 the USB Tower doesn't work because I only have Drivers for XP.
Do you have any idear how I can get it to work on Windows 7?

Jan 22, 2013My PC kept giving me errors on boot about a memory problem but stupidly, I didnt write them down. The errors on boot only happened twice and then boom, just a black screen of nothing on boot. I do get ONE beep which I am told is good. My very strong suspicion is that the RAM modules have failed. My machine takes DIMM DDR3 RAM (4 slots) so I figure I should just buy another set of 4 which I found on ebay for like $50. Now, I did swap the RAM modules around, and tried to boot from just 2 modules but still nothing. I know its virtually impossible to offer advice with such scant information in this post but would you also think that it is a RAM issue? Worst case it isnt and I just re-sell the RAM on ebay. One beep is a good thing though from a mother board point of view right?

I would make a back panel out of 1/2' sheet of metal where the mother board would mount onto it's a "Asus P8P67 WS Revolution: Intel P67 Express, Nvidia NF200 PCIe Bridge, LGA 1155". The power supply would be an "OCZ-Z1000M: 1000W Modular, ATX12V v2.2, EPS12V, 80 PLUS Gold". Would be installing a H70 CPU cooler onto a 2600k cpu. Will also be running about six fans about 120mm in size.

Did not realize it did not have it until I got the phone. Thought all new equip had wifi. My error. how I can either add something to pc tower to get wifi signal from smart phone or from my neighbor(best friend) who lives about 1000 feet away but a wooded area separates us. If I could pick up her wifi, I could download printer driver to printer that is connected to home pc.

Jun 19, 2012computer is a windows 7 home premium 32 bit . My friend built it for me and im not very great with computers but i usually leave my computer on. It works fine its a great system and one day when i left with my friends to go fishing it was on but when i came back the next day it was off. So i went to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it , plugged it back in and made sure the outlet was working . There are two buttons near the plug one that sais 115 and 230 and another one that has A , H , D i think or A , L , D but the switch for the first one is covering the 230 and 115 is showing . I have the O, I On I i made sure but even when i click the power button nothing will start. Theres a green light on the inside thats just a solid green light. Ive read around and people say that , that means the tower is receiving power. So i dont know what it is .. i have no real smarts with computers so i wont know how to remove anything from the inside or anything but i know that the fans are working i have 3 on the computer to keep it fine. I spun them and there all still fine. But there may have been a power outage while their gone could that have caused my system to stop working

Mar 26, 2012Last night after stupidly performing a hard shut down (held the power button for about 5 seconds), I turned my computer on this morning to hear a strange thumping sound coming from my tower. I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a Seagate (I think, I can't quite remember) hard drive with 720 GB, and the three options that I see are as follows.
The only one that I can think of that could make a sound that loud is the large fan at the back. If I remember correctly, it's the one responsible for cooling the whole tower (I really hope it isn't this). Hard drive is fried from the hard shut down. I'm not quite sure how to describe the sound other than a "thump thump thump" or a "wub wub wub wub" sound. My computer's specs are as follows.
720 GB SATA hard drive
4 GB RAM
ASUS Motherboard (can't remember the model number and don't have access to it right now) **It is an all-in-one motherboard, so my video and sound cards are included with it.Intel Processor running at 2.7 GHz (can't remember the model number and don't have access to it right now)

Jan 8, 2012When I plug in my 8 GB PNY Metal-CPC719N USB drive on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5735Z) I get the "USB Device not recognised" problem.
When I check device management to see whether it is an assignment issue, it is not in the list and regardless of the slot it is placed in, I receive the same message.
However, when I plug it into my tower (Custom built) I do not receive this message and it loads instantaneously. For the record, both are running Windows 7 Ultimate, wih he laptop in 32-Bit and my Tower in 64-Bit.

Apr 30, 2009I've installed Windows 7 from booting from the disk formatting my HDD, all went well until the installation restarted my machine. I then get the error 'sync out of range' message. I've read in other forums that the answer to this is to start in safe mode and update drivers or lower res, the thing is, is that on your first start from the installation it wont let me start in safe mode, it tells me the 'i cannot start for the first time in safe mode restart in normal mode.

I'm not a pro or a novice, and realised it was to higher throughput for the monitor and hooked it up to my 32" hd tv in order to access the system.

Jun 20, 2012My native resolution is 1600x1200 but when i change my resolution to 1600x1200 it says 'frequency out range'. I have intel g31 without other graphic card.Then i installed gma driver it shows complete list of all resolutions but i cant set any resolution above 1600x900.

Normally this wouldn't be an issue but my Nivida Geforce 555 already has these settings.I'm using windows 7 and I can't change my monitor(display) settings to 60, it reverts back to 59 because of some rounding thing windows 7 dose. Because of this wow also locks to 59 hz even though the nvida settings are 60hz, due to the monitor. Is there any way to lock ether wow or the monitor settings to 60hz to stop it from crashing?

So anyway ive managed to get everthing else working on my computer but am having a problem setting the native resolution of my LG Flatron L204WS monitor. I've had a search in this part of the forums and couldnt find anyone with a similar problem so i hope im not posting another unecessary post!
Graphic card: 8800 GTX
Driver version: Windows update, the newest Nvidia Drivers for windows 7
Monitor cable: VGA, as this is all it supports
The problem: When trying to set the native resolution of my monitor to 1680x1050 im getting the message from my monitor that it is out of range, i think the setting for refresh rate is at 59hz and wont change to 60. I have located some LG drivers for the monitor and installed those and now windows recognizes my monitor in the advanced settings but not in the direct window of screen resolution. Could this be why? Or could it be related to the fact that the resolution atm 1400x1050 works with 59Hz but 1680x1050 does not work with 59Hz?
Ive seen a few other posts with people stuck on 59 and not being able to change to 60 but there has been no real solution found as of yet. I think i have listed all the relevant information needed for a bit of troubleshooting only if you were so kind to have a look and have a ponder
O yes there was one other very strange oddity, when i run a game such as Team Fortress 2, i can set my resolution to 1680x1050 and it runs fine, how very odd! Thats where this problem stumps me even more!

I updated to Windows 7 and it told me to update and i went along with it and ever since i updated the driver i keep on getting a "out of range" screen when i turn on the comp so i have to go to Safe Mode and uninstall the driver in order to use my computer.
Ive been trying to install a c51 driver pack from nvidia but it says it doesnt belong to Windows 7 only for xp.
How can i get my display driver and everything back to normal if it wont let me install it off the installer....?
