Laptop Will Not Shutdown Or Restart?
Sep 4, 2012My Acer Aspire S3-951 laptop has a few shutdown issues. It will not shutdown or restart, without manually holding down the power button. Windows seems to be shutting down, and then the screen goes black but the laptop is still running. Restart does not work unless i've installed something that requires a restart. It will not restart if i choose the option from the shutdown menu. I've tried to update all my drivers and i also updated the BIOS, with no luck. I have also tried to do a clean boot and uninstalling some programs that might be causing this.[CODE]

Feb 7, 2012I have an Asus K50IN laptop, which I recently took apart to clean it from dust, during that I screwed apart the cooling system, hard drive, SD card reader chip and CD/DVD-player device. (And I just took them apart from the PC, not individually apart, so that I could just be able to reach more places inside laptop's interior.) Then I put everything back the way they were, and also applied new thermalpaste to CPU and GPU. When I turn the PC on, it goes OK, works all the way 100%, but when I restart it, it boots 'til the Asus logo, but then suddenly shuts down, when I start it up again from Power switch, it also dies at almost the same spot, and this process continues as long as I restart it right after previuous crash. Now the interesting part is that when I let my laptop rest for a couple of minutes for example, or even couple of tenths seconds, it starts OK, and everything works. But as soon as I want to restart, this scenario happens again.I have freshly formated Windows 7 which worked just fine, but then I took it apart, and this restart-startup problem occoured. And when it wants to shutdown then it will, it doesn't matter if I reach BIOS menu, or boot menu, with F2, F12 keys on my pc. I have done startup repair but no use.

Apr 29, 2012While playing on my laptop (SDGO SEA) my laptop suddenly goes black for a long period of time and I decided to restart. Selected "Start Windows Normally" and after the Windows Logo ("Windows is starting") the screen suddenly goes black again like what I had experienced earlier (black I mean black-black, the monitor LEDs do not light up) then the hard drive LED blinks off for about a second, blinks on, off again, then on, and the computer restarts. This repeats whenever I select that mode (I can't seem to see the "Load Last Good Configuration" option). Safe Mode works though (I'm using it to post right now). I tried System Restore but with no luck.:(
I'm not very pro at reformatting, or very familiar on reinstallign Windows (I also don't have a Win7 DVD) so please bear with me XD

Windows 7 Laptop Freezes - No Longer Able To Boot After Hard Restart
Nov 1, 2012I have a HP labtop and my laptop froze all of a sudden so I did a hard restart of the computer. After restarting the computer I am no longer able to boot my computer up, the screen will go black sometimes after the log in screen. But now I do not even get the option to go to the log in screen now it just goes to the startup recovery stage. Everytime I try to fix start up I get startup repair off line following by the details of 0.00000 or something like that. The numbers are all zeros in the details but I tried other options like restoring to a previous point and I keep getting errors.

Cannot Log Off Or Restart?
Sep 22, 2012I have Win 7 Pro on a Thinkpad T510 and I updated the Avast engine. It asked for me to restart the computer. It progressed as far as the "Logging off" screen an stopped. I have manually stopped the computer with the power button but when I power it back on I go to the same "Logging off" screen. I have a restore point but can't get to it unless I can start up the computer at least in Safe Mode. Unfortunately I don't have a boot disk. After years of computing this may be the first time I have needed one.

When I try to get it to restart, it will stay on the black screen right at the very beginning but with nothing else happening; no disk activity or anything. The only remedy is for me to switch it off via the power button and then switch it on again - it boots fine from this. It shuts down absolutely fine, and there are no other problems with my system at all. It's actually more of annoyance than anything else as there don't appear to be any other adverse effects at all. I am guessing it's a mobo issue, but really, I'm stumped.

Oct 19, 2011So I've been messing around with varrious drivers to try and get "RAGE" working and to make this tumultuous process more agravating I've somehow inadvertently uninstalled my USB drivers as well.This wouldn't be an issue, except that my computer has no PS2 ports.I used "GPU caps viewer" to check my driver version as I'd not noticed a change in my gaming performance and I was unsure if the 11.10 preview 2 drivers had been installed. "GPU caps viewer" said i was still running 11.8 which is what I had before I tried changing drivers last time. So I guessed that my drivers had not changed dispite the fact i uninstalled/reinstalled using the guide on the AMD /ATI site.So on a bunch of sites I saw people were using "Driver Sweeper" to get rid of the registry files and hidden bits of the ATI/AMD drivers. I used this application, it found; stuff removed it and then asked if i wanted to reboot. Which I figured after Uninstalling the Drivers and this program tooling around it was probably required sooner than later to finish the uninstall.At this point the drivers are "uninstalled" and the generic windows driver is working because my resolution/aspect ratio is stuck at 4:3 and wont go 16:10/16:9.AND more importantly my USB devices were all still working.I restart the computer and It loads windows and I try to type my password and nothing happens, The mouse cursor is in the middle of the screen and I can not move it, and there are no lights on my keyboard. The optical sensor in the bottom of my mouse Also does not light up.I restart again, and check the BIOS, all USB ports are enabled, so I try booting in to safe mode. I can use my keyboard to work in the BIOS, and to select "Safe mode with networking" (vs safe mode with out)When safe mode loads, same issue. No power to USB devices.I tested a bunch of devices; xbox controler; USB memory stick, external HDD etc. and none work.I don't know what to do; the mouse and keyboard work in the recovery partition installed on my HDD, but I really don't want to lose all that data. Ill probably end up using a live CD of linux to get my files and then format the PC if I can't figure out how to fix this.
