View 9 RepliesThe original Windows version that the laptop was shipped with was Vista it still has that sticker on it. The guy met us in a parking lot, that should have tipped me off to something, anyway I gave him the money, he gave me the laptop and I thought all was well. He said that he couldn't find the installation disks but would look. The next day when my wife turned on the computer it said that this copy was not legal. To make a long story shorter, the computer works fine other than every time you turn it on it reminds you of the illegal copy. So to make everything legal I purchased a 3 copy family pack of windows home premium. I installed it on my laptop that had Vista but was now wondering if it will let me install on my wife's with the illegal version.

The database is about 400MB is size so i tried using the compact and repair database option but had no luck. Sometimes i will receive this error and other times it will just hang..The error happens on other computers at the workplace as well so its not isolated to a single computer

View 3 Replies View RelatedI keep getting the "NTVDM CPU has encountered and illegal instruction" every time windows update tries to run (wuauclt.exe) and updates won't install. This started after the new Windows UPdate Agent was installed around 6/14. All updates have failed since then, I just get the popup errors. I ran several scans with Malwarebytes, Spybot, AVG and nothing was found. I ran the Fixit tool from MS and it indicated that there was a problem with windows update agent and the problem was fixed, but it still doesn't work. I'd love to reinstall windows update agent, but windows won't let me. Even the wuforce command won't force a reinstall.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate. While trying to add a network printer (HP LaserJet 4250n) I got the following error message: Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x0000007e.
The printer works fine from my Windows 7 Pro desktop, and also from other laptops with Windows 7 Ultimate.
I've tried installing Microsoft's hotfix (982728), installing locally on LPT2 and running 'net use LPT2 \Computernamesharedprintername /persistent:yes', updating the driver. None of these worked.
My Windows 7 Lenovo ThinkPad X201 X-64 system experienced 3 BSOD crashes today, after 6 months with no issues. All three bugcheck codes seem to be for different errors.I have attached SF Diag output, CPU-Z screenshots, and RAMMon screenshots.

When I try to connect it to these computers I get:windows cannot connect to the printer operation failed with error 0x00000002 Both computers are windows 7 and previously were connected to the printer. I had to reinstall the OS on both machines thus the reason Im reconnecting the printer to them. The computers are attached to our domain. Other computers in the office are able to connect to and use this printer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. After it rebooted, on the Windows 7 loading screen it shows "Applying update operation XXXX of XXXX". After a certain number it says "Error applying operation XXXX of XXXX", and then the system proceeds to hang on that screen, meaning that I am unable to access Windows. I try mashing F8 for my life when resetting the computer, but I never get a list of boot options, so I cannot get into Safe Mode or even try the computer's Last Known Good Configuration. The edition of this version of Windows 7 is 64 bit Ultimate. The laptop I am using is also 64 bit Ultimate.
Another thing I want to point out is that both of these computers have been taking an incredibly long time (near 12 hours at this point) trying to download and install Service Pack 1. There is no spyware or anything running in the background. I am fearing that I might get the same error on this machine but I have taken the liberty of creating a System Restore point in the event it happens. I have two other Windows 7 machines in the house (32 bit Professional and 64 bit Home Premium), and both of them installed Service Pack 1 without any kind of problem, and both of those computers installed them rather quickly.
i have tried both method, but all i got was this error message Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAt the startup of my computer. I get a black screen with white text saying "Operation System Not Found" it is "OPERATION" and not "OPERATING". I first found this problem after a windows update. Its not an issue getting into my computer since all I have to do is hit the enter button on the keyboard and the laptop acts like nothing happened. Whats going on? Its a little annoying getting this message, and it some what scares me that something will happen to my computer. I feel like the startup is a bit slower, but nothing major.

I tried downloaded and used Repair Disk for Windows 7 64bit, which leads to the relevant screens but after a repeated restart of the system a note "...Interrupted operation: Insert the Recovery CD or other Recovery Media and reboot your PC..." still appears for already couple dozen restarts. I've purchased my Sony Vaio VPC23FX laptop with no additional disks and anything. Should I buy a new copy of Windows 4 Home Premium and start everything from a blank page or are there any other ways to make the computer start properly?

The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. What does that mean and why cant i partition it back to the 1.5 TB (Delete the partition)
Also iv tried EASEUS Partition Master, that wouldn't work either. It would say it worked, but when its done, it doesnt say unallocated, it says Other for the file system.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI started testing windows 7 RTM on a couple of PCs at home to see if I could make the transition. Basically I have 3 PCs, one dev PC downstairs, wifes upstairs, and a home theatre PC that serves the house.
I have had no problems upgrading the downstairs and upstairs PC but I'm at my wits end on the media PC (which specs are in my profile)
The media PC has been running rock solid for about 2 years on vista x64, but I wanted to move it to Windows 7 based on my evaluation and the new WMC. Things looked good, however I keep this PC on all the time since it serves stuff to other PCs and does things like removing commercials over night etc. Anyways at about 8am in the morning it just halted, no blue screen, no activity just halted. Need to do a hard power off. Anyways here are the things I have done so far to troubleshoot. All have lead to a lockup at some point or another:
1) Upgraded the MB bios to latest
2) Turned off on board audio (use ATIs), turned off 1394, serial, parrellel, secondary SATA chipset
3) Took out 2 dimms (run at 2gB)
4) Thinking it could be heat (but had no temp evidence to support it), opened the case and put a fan on the components.
5) Upgraded the Intel Matrix Manager to latest release
6) Tried tweaking some voltages on memory
Its just the weirdest thing, but I'm use to seeing a bluescreen or an error like that and with this I have nothing to really go on.
All my attempts have sort of left me at a loss, not really sure what component to really concentrate on. I'm thinking memory but I'm not sure.
My system is in my profile but its basically a
Q6600
P35 Chipset with 4GB RAM(4x1GB)
4 500GB HDs (1 RAID 0, 1 RAID 5)
ATI HD 4800
Since I was running stable with vista x64 I can't really come up with why I'm not running stable with Windows 7. Could it really be hardware if I was running fine before?? Does Windows 7 access memory differently? It leads me to believe its drivers, but I'm not running really anything extravagant. If anyone has any suggestions or methods to try let me know.
I'm logged in as system administraror, yet when I try to access links I get the message: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. How do I undo restrictions?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI typed some text. And I want to erase some of that text using the Backspace key. I press it. But it only deletes 1 character before I have to press it again. How can I change (return) to the way where holding down my finger on the key will do the operation multiple times.
P.S. I'm not sure if this is already included i the my footnote or not. But I'm on an Asus G73jh, I've been exposed to some well-known issues on the G73, but this keyboard problem hasn't been one of them.

View 5 Replies View Relatedhis past week, my little one dropped my laptop on the floor which gave me error 0xc00000e9. I reinstalled Win 7 and everything seemed to be back to normal. Once I logged on, the computer operated so slow that it lagged when typing. I went to control panel and found out that none of the Microsoft, Intel programs were listed. I then realized updates weren't turned on, so I tried turning it on, but it gave me an error. This was the same error I got with many of the services not willing to turn on. I then went to services and tried turning it on from there, but I got error performing inpage operation. After that, I tried CHKDSK L: /R, but after waiting 5 days, it wouldn't move in stage 4 of 5.

I run plain-vanilla Windows-7 on a new Dell desktop, at home. I use Outlook for mail and it worked normally for a month. But recently when I click on a link in an email, program displays, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This seems to be a genuine Windows msg, not a virus.
