Operation Has Been Cancelled Due To Restrictions In Effect On Computer

Apr 27, 2012

i have recently been stumped by an error i have never seen before "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer" after a little goggling i found that it is an error usually associated with Microsoft express, i have tried a few fixes like changing default progs. etc. but with little affect as most windows functions respond with this error. but it is appearing on every file, program, or windows function that i open and use even when trying to run commands through "run" it has rendered my pc near unusable as there is virtually nothing i can change or do to remedy this problem. Wll, new to the forum but hopefully someone can help. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. In repairing the flashplayer problem, I must have disabled whatever system administrator privilege there is which allows one to click on links within word documents, websites, email etc. to go to other web pages. It now comes up with a message box which states "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effecton this computer. Please contact your System Administrator".How do I renable this capability in Outlook, etc.?

Office 2010 - Outlook - Restrictions In Effect?

Aug 20, 2012

note that I have searched for a solution on this and I can only find reference to this issue when clicking a link within Outlook.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Office: 2010 32-bit

Issue: When starting Outlook 2010 a pop-up appears stating the following."This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."I have gone through most of the recommended fixes for the link issue (ie Chrome / IE default and registry corrections for htmlfile reference) in the event that may be causing the issue. The only thing that is tied to Outlook so to speak is Sage ACT 2012 (add-in). ACT will run when running from start menu without any issue. There has been no apparent updates or changes to the computer (it was off over the weekend and all was working find on Friday).

Outlook Suddenly Giving Operation Cancelled Error

May 12, 2011

I run plain-vanilla Windows-7 on a new Dell desktop, at home. I use Outlook for mail and it worked normally for a month. But recently when I click on a link in an email, program displays, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This seems to be a genuine Windows msg, not a virus.

Desktop Folder Redirection Failed - Operation Cancelled By User

Oct 17, 2011

I am using Windows 7 - Home Premium 64bit. There is only one user on this machine which is Administrator and this computer is not connected with any networks. I am trying to move all of User's folders to D: drive. I have successfully moved, My Pictures, My Documents, My Videos, Contacts and other folders but when I try to move "Desktop" folder, it gives me an error message at the end of the operation (after coping all the data to the new location) that "Folder Redirection Failed", "Operation was cancelled by the user". I have tried to change the location several times for this Desktop folder but every time I do it, I get this error message.

Now situation is... Data from my Desktop is present in its default location but also copied to D:UsersMyNameDesktop folder. Means, exactly the same data is placed on two different locations but default Desktop location is still at C: drive. Why I am unable to change my Desktop location? I am trying to change the location by right clicking on Desktop folder in User's folder, then Properties and then Location tab. It's exactly the same way by which I moved all of my other User's folders successfully.

Setup Different User Restrictions On One Computer For Removable Storage?

Jan 13, 2013

I want to deny all access to removable storage for standard users at our office on one computer. I've been able to deny that access in the user configuration branch of GPedit. However; it restricts all users, even admin, when I enable that setting. how to I get it to differentiate between users? Of course I want admin to have access and standard users not to have access.

Disk Checking Has Been Cancelled - Windows 7 64-bit?

Apr 13, 2012

I installed Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a Toshiba laptop which used to have Vista 32-bit on it.Yesterday I put in all the Toshiba drivers and ran chkdsk and am pretty sure it was ok.I ran chkdsk tonight and got a message that was so quick I can barely read it, but on reboot at the end it says "A disk checking has been scheduled. Disk checking has been cancelled" which comes and goes very quickly. In BootExecute in the registry it seems OK and shows it as "autocheck autochk*".

Scheduled Backup Cancelled, Yet Can Run Manually

Feb 27, 2012

On the backup and restore management screen, it says backup cancelled. I had setup on a regular weekly schedule. Go to manage backups, I see backups through out 2011. The last one 12/2011. The last backup field says Neveryet backups exist. Short of it, I cannot find the reason backups would not run. Windows has an extremely poor ability to view just what is going on with backups. Assuming it might be a space issue. I deleted all but a few of the last backups in manage backups, and reset the schedule so backups would run overnight. This morning, same results, backup cancelled. SoI clicked on Backup nowand it runs to completion successfully. The last back field was updated with todays date/time.

Restrictions To Administrator Access

Mar 29, 2010

I am the only user on my notebook and, thus, have Administrator status. I am using Windows 7 home premium OS.I had installed a program which did not have a comprehensive help guide but had a website with a very good guide. So, as I have done many times with WinXP, I tried to copy a shortcut to the web page into the program's folder on the startup menu. I was rewarded with an access denied error. I also find that, without very indirect methods, I cannot access the all users startup menu folders.

Windows 7 Starter Updates Won't Finish And Can't Be Cancelled?

Jan 3, 2013

I've updated every time windows has told me to, and I haven't had any problems and they usually finish really quick, but this time it's stuck on the start up screen and just says something along the lines of "update 20 of 76 don't turn off the power or unplug" but it's been installing update 20 for 3 hours so I turned it off. Well actually I took the battery out because pushing the power button did nothing. Probably not the smartest thing to do but I was desperate. Even after it turned off, it just resumed the update. I can't do ANYTHING while it's updating, and I don't even know if I downloaded this update because I remember seeing a tray icon that said "downloading updates: 0%" not long ago.

Restrictions To User Account Names?

Jan 17, 2012

I wonder whether this should come as a doubt at all, nonetheless, here goes:Are there any restrictions concerning the name one can give to an user account in Windows 7? Namely, I wished to know whether one can give the name "Admin" to an account to set with administrator privileges, or is such a name restricted to be used due to any eventual conflicts/confusion it may lead to in the Windows Registry? Windows 7 here is Home Premium.

How To Remove Windows 7 Access Restrictions

May 23, 2009

I had a few annoying problems with Windows 7 so I deleted the partition that it was on and went back to using vista HP64-bit the problem is that the directories that I was using for personal files seem to have taken some sort of security features from Windows 7 and now I am having problems with them in vista for example

Access to the path 'D:DocumentsMy GamesFar Cry 2BenchmarksResults5.23.2009 9.47.49 PM' is denied

I have the permissions in vista set correctly

Installing Win7 On Dell - Restrictions

Sep 18, 2009

When Windows7 ships, I will be installing it on my laptop (Dell Latitude D631). This machine currently has Win XP Pro installed on a SATA HDD of 120Gb capacity.

My plan is to remove this disk & put it to one side, and install Windows 7 64bit on a brand new SATA HDD. I have bought a 500Gb WD drive and ideally plan to create 2 partitions - one for Windows, one for my data.

My questions are:

1. Any upfront advice on pitfalls of this approach?

2. Any knowledge (I can't specifically find any data on this, having trawled all sorts of places) of any drive capacity limitation for my Dell laptop - I have heard of 120 or 137 or other Gigabyte sizes as a limit so am now a little concerned that my lovely new 500Gb drive may not be fully usable.

If there's any inherent limitation, what's the way around this? Or will the BIOS 'autodetect' and see all 500Gb or is there something I need to do in BIOS or elsewhere to ensure the whole drive is visible and usable?

3. Finally...can I use the Windows 7 install process to create the 2 or even 3 partitions successfully?

Apply UAC Restrictions To An Additional Folder?

Oct 7, 2011

This may seem like a strange thing to do, but today's SSD article reminded me of my desire to find out if this is possible - I have an unusual requirement that discourages me from even going the "small ssd as boot drive, large hdd for other things" route, unless I can find a way to do this. I do QA work for a distributor of downloadable games, so I like to be able to install the entire catalog (150+ GB), and put them into folders under "C:Program Files (x86)", so that I'll be able to see whether the UAC will cause problems for them (I install most of my other programs outside Program Files). Thus, to use ssd+hdd, I would need a way to apply the same restrictions to a folder on the hdd (and preferably also have any virtualized files directed to the hdd as well, but that's less critical).

Guest Account Restrictions - Setting Programs And Folder Access Permissions

Oct 4, 2011

I have turned on the Guest account, and I need to set program and folder access permissions. I have google'ed the way to set file and folder permissions, but I am having some difficulty with some of the things that I need.

For instance I need to:
-deny access (just deny listing the directory structure; can read & write so apps can work) to C:* , Control Panel, and a few other locations

If I try to deny dir listing for Guest on root C: , it gives me a couple warnings and will not set permissions for "program files, program files x86, windows" folders even though I am the admin. After those initial issues, it continues to set the permissions for all the rest of the files. If I log into the guest now, goto Computer and double click on C: , it now says "access denied", which is good but if I type in the address bar up top "C:users", it will goto that location; not display the access denied message. I am using the Home Premium edition so I cannot use the Group Policy Editor..
