My Disk Checks Automatically Gets Cancelled

View 2 RepliesMy installation of Windows Live Mail automatically checks for and retrieves email even though I have set it NOT to do that.
In Tools - Options - General I unchecked "Send and receive messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every [time is grayed out]" Yet the program still automatically checks for email and downloads it.
I have my Hotmail account set up, and I could sort of see that account automatically retrieveing mail, but I also have other accounts set up through my ISP and through my own domain, and these are also being automatically checked even though I have cleared the checkboxes described above.
I have closed the program and rebooted since unchecking those boxes (this has been going on for an extended time, several weeks at least). Am I missing some option somewhere, or is this just broken? I can't imagine it's the intended behavior. I'm running Windows 7 x64, Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.0726).
I installed Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a Toshiba laptop which used to have Vista 32-bit on it.Yesterday I put in all the Toshiba drivers and ran chkdsk and am pretty sure it was ok.I ran chkdsk tonight and got a message that was so quick I can barely read it, but on reboot at the end it says "A disk checking has been scheduled. Disk checking has been cancelled" which comes and goes very quickly. In BootExecute in the registry it seems OK and shows it as "autocheck autochk*".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got an SSD, and immediately installed W7 on it. Got it all updated, backed up my other drive, and formatted the old one so it wouldn't be a boot disk. However, now Windows won't automatically boot from the SSD. I can hit the boot menu at startup and select the drive manually, but it does not show up in the arrangeable list of drives to automatically boot from. How do I make Windows automatically boot from the SSD? Windows 7 is fully installed and updated on it; it works fine when I automatically select it, but Windows refuses to notice it unless I tell it that it is there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a lot of different usb hard drives in my shop. I have two basic enclosures, a generic one that uses pata drives on a usb 2.0 cable and an Apricon USB SATA 2.0 adapter.Suddenly when I plug in a new drive device manager does see the drive and installs it in device manager. I can see the drive in Disk Management but it has no drive letter assigned, and therefore doesn't show up in Computer. I can easily just assign a letter in Disk Management and the drive immediately becomes usable. However, I would like to get Windows 7 to resume automatically assigning a drive letter.
I have tried a program called USB DriveCleanup. What it appears to have done is remove all installations of prior USB drives and when I plug in a drive that has been in the machine previously it then goes thru the install again. Yet still no drive letter. I think the program is doing what would manually be done by going into safe mode and cleaning out all the entries that build up there that don't appear in normal mode, then removes them. Basically it seems like a shortcut to manually doing it.
I also tried a registry fix that essentially asked me to delete the upper and lower filters. This seems similiar to fix for CD/DVD drives that no longer appear in Computer. This fix also didn't work.I tried removing and reinstalling the chipset drivers. Still no go.Running Windows 7 Pro SP1, H55 chipset.
Wll, new to the forum but hopefully someone can help. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. In repairing the flashplayer problem, I must have disabled whatever system administrator privilege there is which allows one to click on links within word documents, websites, email etc. to go to other web pages. It now comes up with a message box which states "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effecton this computer. Please contact your System Administrator".How do I renable this capability in Outlook, etc.?

View 16 Replies View RelatedOn the backup and restore management screen, it says backup cancelled. I had setup on a regular weekly schedule. Go to manage backups, I see backups through out 2011. The last one 12/2011. The last backup field says Neveryet backups exist. Short of it, I cannot find the reason backups would not run. Windows has an extremely poor ability to view just what is going on with backups. Assuming it might be a space issue. I deleted all but a few of the last backups in manage backups, and reset the schedule so backups would run overnight. This morning, same results, backup cancelled. SoI clicked on Backup nowand it runs to completion successfully. The last back field was updated with todays date/time.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have recently been stumped by an error i have never seen before "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer" after a little goggling i found that it is an error usually associated with Microsoft express, i have tried a few fixes like changing default progs. etc. but with little affect as most windows functions respond with this error. but it is appearing on every file, program, or windows function that i open and use even when trying to run commands through "run" it has rendered my pc near unusable as there is virtually nothing i can change or do to remedy this problem. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've updated every time windows has told me to, and I haven't had any problems and they usually finish really quick, but this time it's stuck on the start up screen and just says something along the lines of "update 20 of 76 don't turn off the power or unplug" but it's been installing update 20 for 3 hours so I turned it off. Well actually I took the battery out because pushing the power button did nothing. Probably not the smartest thing to do but I was desperate. Even after it turned off, it just resumed the update. I can't do ANYTHING while it's updating, and I don't even know if I downloaded this update because I remember seeing a tray icon that said "downloading updates: 0%" not long ago.

I run plain-vanilla Windows-7 on a new Dell desktop, at home. I use Outlook for mail and it worked normally for a month. But recently when I click on a link in an email, program displays, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This seems to be a genuine Windows msg, not a virus.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 - Home Premium 64bit. There is only one user on this machine which is Administrator and this computer is not connected with any networks. I am trying to move all of User's folders to D: drive. I have successfully moved, My Pictures, My Documents, My Videos, Contacts and other folders but when I try to move "Desktop" folder, it gives me an error message at the end of the operation (after coping all the data to the new location) that "Folder Redirection Failed", "Operation was cancelled by the user". I have tried to change the location several times for this Desktop folder but every time I do it, I get this error message.
Now situation is... Data from my Desktop is present in its default location but also copied to D:UsersMyNameDesktop folder. Means, exactly the same data is placed on two different locations but default Desktop location is still at C: drive. Why I am unable to change my Desktop location? I am trying to change the location by right clicking on Desktop folder in User's folder, then Properties and then Location tab. It's exactly the same way by which I moved all of my other User's folders successfully.
For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter I got my new laptop, I installed antivirus, windows updates, etc, removed bloatware and installed the software that I actually use. Then I created my System Repair disk (single disk). Does this disk include all software and windows updates that were on my computer at the time I created the disk? I have read that System Repair disks will only have the factory settings of Windows 7, but I don't know if this is the case for all System Repair disks or only those that came with the computer and were made before the computer was purchased?I've also read that a System Repair disk could include a system image. Is this true and done by default when the System Repair disk is created?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having this error even after reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 on my desktop. I've done reformatting / reinstalling Windows 7 several times, yet the problem still occurs. I'm thinking of my HDD as being corrupted or messed up. The problem occurred after I accidentally hit the CPU when I was stretching my foot. The screen froze after that. Upon rebooting it, 'Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter' occurs. After I entered the DVD installer of Windows 7, the screen just hangs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having a bit of trouble with windows 7 lately, namely that it won't start up right. When I boot from the drive normally, it gives me the classic "BOOT DISK ERROR: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.
However, I soon discovered that if I boot from the Windows 7 cd and do not boot from it (By ignoring the "Press a key to boot from CD or DVD..." Windows 7 boots up fine.
I've tweaked my BIOS over and over, but the same problem persists. The drive is brand new and fine. What can I do?
