View 1 RepliesI just got an SSD, and immediately installed W7 on it. Got it all updated, backed up my other drive, and formatted the old one so it wouldn't be a boot disk. However, now Windows won't automatically boot from the SSD. I can hit the boot menu at startup and select the drive manually, but it does not show up in the arrangeable list of drives to automatically boot from. How do I make Windows automatically boot from the SSD? Windows 7 is fully installed and updated on it; it works fine when I automatically select it, but Windows refuses to notice it unless I tell it that it is there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne day I was playing a game and then my cp BSOD (its OCd so I wasnt too alarmed). Then I went to boot back up and all I got was a blinking cursor. No msg, no text, NOTHING! Well I looked around on the internet and though a combination of windows startup repair and bootrec, bootsec, diskpart and chkdsk I was able to get it to where now all it will say is Disk Read Error, press ctrl+alt+del to restart. Of course pressing that does nothing. The weird thing is that I know the drive is good, I can read all the data off of it just fine. I dont think its going out as its an 80gb intel ssd in a desktop with very good airflow, no issues there. Then when I try to go through windows startup repair it says no problems, clearly lying. Another weird thing is that when I first go to recovery options it will detect my os just fine, but then I run bootrec /scanos and it comes up with a BIG, FAT NOTHING!! Ive been at this for about 8 hours on and off and Im at my wits end.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a lot of different usb hard drives in my shop. I have two basic enclosures, a generic one that uses pata drives on a usb 2.0 cable and an Apricon USB SATA 2.0 adapter.Suddenly when I plug in a new drive device manager does see the drive and installs it in device manager. I can see the drive in Disk Management but it has no drive letter assigned, and therefore doesn't show up in Computer. I can easily just assign a letter in Disk Management and the drive immediately becomes usable. However, I would like to get Windows 7 to resume automatically assigning a drive letter.
I have tried a program called USB DriveCleanup. What it appears to have done is remove all installations of prior USB drives and when I plug in a drive that has been in the machine previously it then goes thru the install again. Yet still no drive letter. I think the program is doing what would manually be done by going into safe mode and cleaning out all the entries that build up there that don't appear in normal mode, then removes them. Basically it seems like a shortcut to manually doing it.
I also tried a registry fix that essentially asked me to delete the upper and lower filters. This seems similiar to fix for CD/DVD drives that no longer appear in Computer. This fix also didn't work.I tried removing and reinstalling the chipset drivers. Still no go.Running Windows 7 Pro SP1, H55 chipset.
pretty slow and i have been moving pictures from my camera on my laptop, so i decided to restart the system. when it started to boot it just went into a blue scree loop, dell logo appears, then windows is trying to load and then i get the BSoD and it goes all over again, i cannot get into windows, i have tried safe mode through F8, somehow it doesn't work, the only thing i can open is the BIOS,ays:

One day, seemingly at random (I know that it obviously was not), my steam client stopped working, so doing a virus scan malwarebytes returned a positive. So I removed it, but having done this I thought my computer was fine, but when I opened Word 2010 I got the error "There is not enough memory or disk space to run Word" I have 281 Gb of free hard drive space and 8 Gb of RAM. I even used the installation CD and used "repair" which didn't work. I also tried clearing the Temp folder, but the problem persists

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically, what seems to be happening is when I'm using a program or something, like, for example, Google Chrome, the window will randomly be deselected or deactivated. It's like someone clicked on another window. Normally, this isn't a huge deal. I just click on the window and keep typing until it happens again (it usually happens two or three times then stops for a while); It's just annoying. But the real issue is when I'm playing a full-screen game, where it's constantly minimized. Not only does it take a good minute or two for my slow computer to pull the window back up, but this also sometimes crashes games, like Team Fortress 2.I haven't been able to play any games for a while.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had this laptop for about 8 months now. Kept very clean, always plugged in.First thing I did was get AVG and kept it up to date. Kept Windows up to date as well. Scan regularly, disc cleanup and defrag regularly as well.About 1 month ago it started being significantly slower than before. Quite frustrating mainly because I can't figure out why. Hard drive is about half full, no viruses according to AVG[I haven't had a virus since I got my last computer 5 years ago to the best of my knowledge]I don't do a whole lot, play WoW and listen to music mainly. Sometimes leave Facebook or MSN on in the background as well. Used to work great. Not sure why it's slowing down

Now that excitement has turn to dispear. The system keeps crashing, for no good reason that I can see. I have limited experience with Windows, but have looked at the event viewer.I searched other sites for solutions, but not getting anywhere.I have the following ID crit and errors: 41, 6008 & 10010.At first I tried fixing the paging requirement, as the paging was set lower than the actual amount of RAM. I fixed that and that has not helped.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, original installed OS on system, OEM. Bought in 2009. I have not re-installed the OS.
The BlueScreen that comes up has no line of data at the top on bold print! It has the STOP code at the bottom, but the screen only stays up long enough for it to quickly make a dmp file before it automatically reboots. Therefore, no idea what it's trying to tell me! Once it restarts successfully, the little window pops up with the BCCodes etc., and links to the Minidump folder.

I am building a new computer and have all the parts except for my video card (gtx 670 when it comes in stock...). Now, I have heard that I shouldn't do windows updates before installing the drivers for my video card. However, if I go ahead and set everything up except for my video card and let windows update do its thing - will there be any problems for me when I can finally buy my video card and install it?

View 8 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago my PC had restarted on its own when I wasn't there and was stuck on a screen saying "Reboot and Select Proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in Selected Boot device and press any key ". I manually restarted the PC but nothing was shown on the screen. I turned off the PC, disassembled it and took out the BIOS battery and left it there for about 30 minutes. I then put everything back together and booted. The PC started fine but after about one hour it crashed for no reason. Since last week sometimes it crashes or restarts either within minutes from logging into windows either within an hour but never over 2 hours. At first I though it was a power supply issue, I had a Corsair VX550W for the last 4 years and so I replaced it with a brand new Corsair TX650, this has not solved anything though. But since I replaced the PSU the PC now only restarts every 1 hour when I am logged into windows. However, at this moment I have left it open into BIOS and it is working for 2 hours without any restart.
