Windows 7 Installer Runs For No Reason?
Jul 10, 2011
for the past couple of days I have noticed that Windows Installer will suddenly, for no reason, appear and disappear within a few seconds so not long enough to see what it is actually doing!MalwareBytes had caught two viruses it thought were Malware and I let MalwareBytes remove them, Microsoft Security Essentials caught a java exploit and removed it yesterday so I'm running a SuperAntiSpyware full scan (previous scans were all full scans) to see if anything has been missed.I have Windows Update set to check for updates only and I have updated to Service Pack 1 on a 64 bit machine.I am only concerned because I have spent days, if not weeks trying to make space on my External HDD in order to create a System Image for emergencies and don't want to end up having to go back to a system image that is infected with what most likely caused me to need to restore

Basically, what seems to be happening is when I'm using a program or something, like, for example, Google Chrome, the window will randomly be deselected or deactivated. It's like someone clicked on another window. Normally, this isn't a huge deal. I just click on the window and keep typing until it happens again (it usually happens two or three times then stops for a while); It's just annoying. But the real issue is when I'm playing a full-screen game, where it's constantly minimized. Not only does it take a good minute or two for my slow computer to pull the window back up, but this also sometimes crashes games, like Team Fortress 2.I haven't been able to play any games for a while.

I've had this laptop for about 8 months now. Kept very clean, always plugged in.First thing I did was get AVG and kept it up to date. Kept Windows up to date as well. Scan regularly, disc cleanup and defrag regularly as well.About 1 month ago it started being significantly slower than before. Quite frustrating mainly because I can't figure out why. Hard drive is about half full, no viruses according to AVG[I haven't had a virus since I got my last computer 5 years ago to the best of my knowledge]I don't do a whole lot, play WoW and listen to music mainly. Sometimes leave Facebook or MSN on in the background as well. Used to work great. Not sure why it's slowing down

I purchased a new computer with 64bit machine and windows 7, was very excited to get it. Now that excitement has turn to dispear.The system keeps crashing, for no good reason that I can see. I have limited experience with Windows, but have looked at the event viewer.I searched other sites for solutions, but not getting anywhere.I have the following ID crit and errors: 41, 6008 & 10010.At first I tried fixing the paging requirement, as the paging was set lower than the actual amount of RAM. I fixed that and that has not helped.

My laptop has been crashing rather frequently, and is starting to be a pain.
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, original installed OS on system, OEM. Bought in 2009. I have not re-installed the OS.
The BlueScreen that comes up has no line of data at the top on bold print! It has the STOP code at the bottom, but the screen only stays up long enough for it to quickly make a dmp file before it automatically reboots. Therefore, no idea what it's trying to tell me! Once it restarts successfully, the little window pops up with the BCCodes etc., and links to the Minidump folder.

I am building a new computer and have all the parts except for my video card (gtx 670 when it comes in stock...). Now, I have heard that I shouldn't do windows updates before installing the drivers for my video card. However, if I go ahead and set everything up except for my video card and let windows update do its thing - will there be any problems for me when I can finally buy my video card and install it?

My system is a home built, Core I7, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 TI with 2GB VRAM. Recently upgraded from 4GB RAM.
I was having this same issue with 4GB of RAM. After the computer has been on a bit (hour or two) the memory usage will approach 90% and upwards and things will start to run slowly. I close all active programs, kill all non-essential background programs (dropbox, steam, printer software etc). I look in my processes and no way does it all add up to nearly 8GB of memory.
So my question is, how do I get my computer to run faster? I know WIN 7 uses memory differently than XP did, and I don't care if it wants to use all the RAM, as long as it will run quickly. The problem is, it runs slowly.
I have WIN 7 x64 ultimate, I have ESET security suite and show no viruses. Problem goes away after I reboot, but returns over time.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5986 Laptop. It started out with a problem with the speakers not working and the USB ports also didn't work when that happened. It now freezes up at the desktop when I power up. It will only run in Safe Mode. I have reset it back to factory defaults 3 times and nothing seems to work to fix this problem. I am able to run it in Safe Mode with Networking and managed to get Hijackthis downloaded. I have a log file ready if you want it.I've been working on this thing for 5 days now and am ready to round file it. Below is the system information for that computer. Tech Support[CODE]

I was forced to shut down my computer due to it having frozen up, whilst playing the Battlefield 3 single player. The computer crashed, and after about 5 minutes of rapidly pressing ctrl+alt+delete, and alt+tab, I decided the best way forwards was to force shut it down, by holding the shut down button. After restarting my computer, I noticed it took slightly longer to boot up. Hmm, nothing special. Then, I entered my login credentials, and after a 2-3 minute wait at the 'Welcome' screen, I was presented with a black screen, nothing more. After about 5 minutes, my cursor popped up. Oh, at least I have that. I pressed ctrl+alt+delete again, however after waiting 5 minutes for the screen to pop up, task manager simply would not open. I came back around 30 mins later, and the taskbar and my wallpaper had popped up. However, I pressed the start button to see if it would come up with the menu. Nothing. Cursor stops moving, bam. Another crash. Another forced restart.
This repeats once again, so I decide to head on into safe mode and try to go back to a restore point. Even safe mode is somewhat laggy, however it is not un-usable. After system restore is complete, nothing has changed. I still have to wait around 30 mins for the taskbar to pop up. I then tried using the repair tool you get to try if the computer doesn't start up properly. Doesn't work. My third option is to try out chkdsk, and that is happening as we speak. It has currently been going on for about 14 hrs, and found many corrupt files aparently in stage 4, however many of these files don't appear to be major. Its currently at 16% done, 205675 out of 371465 files processed.System specs wise, I have an Intel i5 460m processor @ 2.3ghz, 4GB RAM, 64bit operating system, and an ATI Mobility Radeon 5650, which I have overclocked to 650mhz core clock speeds, 950 memory clocks, from 450 - 790.

My Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine.
When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. I can't tell there are any issues. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd.
I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

my hard drive that runs my windows 7 wouldn't boot, so in the end I re-imaged it, and since then I have no sound. I updated my drivers, checked it wasn't muted in the bottom panel, changed my leads, tried different types of leads, directly attached it to my tv to ensure it wasn't a problem with the amplifier, went to ASUS's site downloaded the new drivers again directly from them, got a snazzy new aplication out of it but still no sound. Checked my graphics cards are in securely, checked they're showing up, updated those drivers, ran windows updates a few thousand times, ran mr fix it, he tells me that the speakers, headphones etc are not plugged in, but they are. At least that's what the good fellow told me before my asus driver update, I will check back with him after walking my dog.

All was well with my computer and one fine day video playback became very laggy and choppy. Also the computer in general slowed down considerably. My first thought was that there had been a virus attack and hence I ran a thorough scan. Nothing showed up. So formatted the whole system and installed Windows 8. Nothing changed. Videos continue to be laggy and overall system performance is slow. I read somewhere this could be because of high DCP latency caused by faulty drivers. I used the original Windows 7 backup DVD given to me by my laptop manufacturer to restore to factory default. No change - laggy video with slow system performance. I used the DCP latency checker to figure out what was causing the high values I was getting and pinned it down to the WiFi driver. The latency is down but choppy video playback and super slow OS continue to bother me. I've run out of options and my patience it's wearing thin.

I recently upgraded from 32-bit Windows Vista to 64-bit Windows 7 (did a clean OEM install). Now, my Microsoft Excel 2007 runs at a snails pace. Actually, I would be happy if it ran at a snails pace since it currently is running slower than that! It's almost to the point of being unusable. Opening an Excel document that took mere seconds with my 32-bit Vista now takes minutes with 64-bit Windows 7. Saving an Excel document in Vista took seconds and now easily takes 2-3 minutes with the new OS. Inserting a pivot table when my OS was 32-bit Vista was a snap, but now trying to do it working under 64-bit Windows 7 I can walk away and go eat dinner and come back and it still won't be done inserting the table.
Is there some known compatibility problem between MS Office/Excel 2007 and 64-bit Windows 7 OS? Ive searched Google but can't find anything related to the problem I am having.
I've tried restarting the PC. I reinstalled Office. I've tried launching Excel in compatibility mode for XP and Vista. All to no avail.
System Specs:
CPU = Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz
Mobo = nVidia 650i Core 2 Quad (EVGA nForce 650i Ultra)
RAM = 4 gigs DDR2 Corsair at 1066 MHz dual channel
HD = Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM 16 MB cache SATA Extreme Speed
OS = 64-bit Windows 7 SP 1
MS Office = 2007 version with SP 1 (or 2, can't recall exactly).
