I wanted to ask, if games, who are compatible to Windows XP and Windows Vista, run on Windows 7 too? I wanted to buy a game over the internet, it says it runs at Windos XP and Vista, as its an older game from time, when Windows 7 wasn't released.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've seen this happen for quite a while. For some games, I'll see rundll32.exe take some CPU, and it can take as long as a half minute for the game to finally run. If I kill rundll32.exe then the game .exe gets killed too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a new broadband line installed at home today. The thing is, at home we have two laptops (one is a Samsung 5 Series Ultra with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and the other one is a MacBook) and an iPad.
Both the MacBook and the iPad don't have any issues when connecting to the Internet. However with the Samsung laptop (which unluckily happens to be mine, both the other things are my girlfriend's ), while I don't have any troubles when connecting to the wifi network (I even have full 5 bar signal and it says I'm connected to the internet at 150 mbps), when I try to load any website (even light ones, like Google or Gmail) it takes ages for my computer to do it, and most of the times they don't even load at all.
I don't know what could it be, since when I connect to other wifi networks (like at public places, or even when I use my cellphone as a hotspot) everything runs perfectly fine. That makes me think that the problem is with the router, however both the macbook and the iPad don't have the same issue at all so, on the other hand, the issue may lie within my computer.
I have installed this game, Singularity. The game worked fine for a week then suddenly It would crash as soon as it was opened from the desktop shortcut. The game is patched to it's latest version, I have direct x all other runtimes and PhysX installed from the CD. The shortcut it set to run as Admin in compatibility. No matter if i try with the desktop shortcut or from the exe in the folder or from the shortcut in the start menu the game will crash asap. The only way this game runs is by pulling up task manager and selecting New Task then browsing to the games exe. Malwarebytes reports no viruses or any malware. Tried reinstalling, and it didn't help.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my desktop PC I run Win 7 Premium 64bit and I also have a new Dell XPS 16 with Win 7 64 bit Professional laptop connected to a homegroup with the desktop using wireless wi.fi. It works perfectly. I need to add an HP laptop to the homegroup network with a wireless connection. Connection to the homegroup is fine but the HP, running Vista, cannot connect to the internet. The HP laptop has no need to share files or anything on the homegroup except maybe the printer, once in a while. The homegroup has excellent access to the internet, the HP has access to the homegroup but no access to the internet.IP and DNS servers are set at "Automatically connect.." Router is a Billion 7800N with latest firmware. The desktop is in my home office, the Dell in the family room (about 30' one wall) the HP is in an adjacent bedroom (about 20' with two walls). The dell works superbly in that bedroom. Core two quad 2.8 Ghz (Q6600_ 9600GT GPU I cannot sort this one out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having random crashes / restarts on my computer for the entire duration that I have had my windows 7 installed, before this I used windows xp which was on the same hard drive. I thought I managed to fix the issue but it happened again today and once yesterday as well.
What happens:
-Playing random game or browsing internet
-crash for no reason (Doesn't always BSOD)
-computer restarts says windows did not shut down cleanly etc..
-start up what I was doing again
-no crash
Search and Destroy along with Malwarebytes says that I am clean along with my AVG My dump settings are properly configured to produce dump files, although when this happens I do not see one being produced
My Windows 7 computer:
- x64 bit
- not the original OS
- retail version
- What is the age of system (hardware)? - 3/4 years at most
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 1/2 years
EDIT: I was looking through some other threads and managed to actually get some dump files and I reattached the information
I have a vista computer that won't connect to the internet. The Ipv6 is on limited and the Ipv4 is on local. When I click diagnose it says I need to: reboot the modem or router, get new IP settings, or reset the network adapter. I have done all of them. I also tried disabling Ipv6. It still does not work. I get an internet connection on all of my other computers.

That wouldn't be a problem except Windows 7 prevents the game from creating the shortcuts it would have created had the operating system not been Windows 7- things like the game's Read Me, Uninstaller & Configuration options.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy system is a home built, Core I7, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 TI with 2GB VRAM. Recently upgraded from 4GB RAM.
I was having this same issue with 4GB of RAM. After the computer has been on a bit (hour or two) the memory usage will approach 90% and upwards and things will start to run slowly. I close all active programs, kill all non-essential background programs (dropbox, steam, printer software etc). I look in my processes and no way does it all add up to nearly 8GB of memory.
So my question is, how do I get my computer to run faster? I know WIN 7 uses memory differently than XP did, and I don't care if it wants to use all the RAM, as long as it will run quickly. The problem is, it runs slowly.
I have WIN 7 x64 ultimate, I have ESET security suite and show no viruses. Problem goes away after I reboot, but returns over time.
New laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have two business programs that won't run on a 64bit system. Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs.Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.

It now freezes up at the desktop when I power up. It will only run in Safe Mode. I have reset it back to factory defaults 3 times and nothing seems to work to fix this problem. I am able to run it in Safe Mode with Networking and managed to get Hijackthis downloaded. It still runs 95 processes minimum. It's windows 7 home premium service pack 1 (64 bit) if that's needed.. My antivirus/firewall is Avira Internet Security 2012 (not the free edition).

I did not remove the existing windows vista installation, and thus win 7 was installed in a dual boot combination. Now, i want to remove vista from my laptop and use windows 7 only.The problem is that during installation, win 7 was installed on logical drive and windows vista was on the primary drive. Thus, i cannot delete/format the windows vista partition. Also I cannot transfer the boot drive to the partition containing win 7 because the vista partition is the active one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was forced to shut down my computer due to it having frozen up, whilst playing the Battlefield 3 single player. The computer crashed, and after about 5 minutes of rapidly pressing ctrl+alt+delete, and alt+tab, I decided the best way forwards was to force shut it down, by holding the shut down button. After restarting my computer, I noticed it took slightly longer to boot up. Hmm, nothing special. Then, I entered my login credentials, and after a 2-3 minute wait at the 'Welcome' screen, I was presented with a black screen, nothing more. After about 5 minutes, my cursor popped up. Oh, at least I have that. I pressed ctrl+alt+delete again, however after waiting 5 minutes for the screen to pop up, task manager simply would not open. I came back around 30 mins later, and the taskbar and my wallpaper had popped up. However, I pressed the start button to see if it would come up with the menu. Nothing. Cursor stops moving, bam. Another crash. Another forced restart.
This repeats once again, so I decide to head on into safe mode and try to go back to a restore point. Even safe mode is somewhat laggy, however it is not un-usable. After system restore is complete, nothing has changed. I still have to wait around 30 mins for the taskbar to pop up. I then tried using the repair tool you get to try if the computer doesn't start up properly. Doesn't work. My third option is to try out chkdsk, and that is happening as we speak. It has currently been going on for about 14 hrs, and found many corrupt files aparently in stage 4, however many of these files don't appear to be major. Its currently at 16% done, 205675 out of 371465 files processed.System specs wise, I have an Intel i5 460m processor @ 2.3ghz, 4GB RAM, 64bit operating system, and an ATI Mobility Radeon 5650, which I have overclocked to 650mhz core clock speeds, 950 memory clocks, from 450 - 790.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a legitimate copy of Windows Vista with key codes etc and I have a legitimate upgrade disk for Windows 7. I had Windows 7 installed on a previous system build which had a HD crash and now I am starting again from scratch (wiyh backed up data).
Like a dolt, I installed Wondows 7 before I remembered it was an upgrade edition. I've looked all over the MS site and don't see a method I can use to Activate Windows 7 from this point. way to use my legitimate Windows disks and keys without having to wipe the drive, install Vista and then install Windows 7 yet again.
It's aggravating to have legitimate software and not be able to use it without needing to trick the system - surely there is a way to not have to start all over?
