Trying to disable integrity checks by windows. I've been told to boot up and hit F8 to do so. i want to boot from. Another person said you can do it using cmd prompts. But I cant seen to get it to work.
View 2 RepliesMy installation of Windows Live Mail automatically checks for and retrieves email even though I have set it NOT to do that.
In Tools - Options - General I unchecked "Send and receive messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every [time is grayed out]" Yet the program still automatically checks for email and downloads it.
I have my Hotmail account set up, and I could sort of see that account automatically retrieveing mail, but I also have other accounts set up through my ISP and through my own domain, and these are also being automatically checked even though I have cleared the checkboxes described above.
I have closed the program and rebooted since unchecking those boxes (this has been going on for an extended time, several weeks at least). Am I missing some option somewhere, or is this just broken? I can't imagine it's the intended behavior. I'm running Windows 7 x64, Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.0726).

i have windows 7 64 bit sp1, and when i check for updates it checks for updates with no results. I have let it run overnight and still nothing. It says checking for updates with the green line going back and forth, but never gets any results.

This weekend I recv'd a notice that my backup failed due to corrupt C: . I ran sfc /verifyonly. I've attached both logs. In my last install I had placed all Users onto another drive. This was reported as a bad idea & I assumed it was at least a part of the issue. On the clean install I left everything as Windows wanted it. I do install programs that I expect to not need forever or ones which I don't care about speed, onto a second hard drive. All windows install related files & setup were left on the C: this time.

My laptop also occasionally freezes on the windows screen or when I finally log into my account.

Some more information: I run AVG bought and paid for as my Anti Virus system and have preformed numerous full scans with no problems at all. I also have AVG PC Tune up which i check often and scan for to optimize my Laptops performance once again besides the usual defrag nothing serious has ever been captured. I Have the free version of Malware Bytes, didn't start the trial so its always on my computer. Again Scans come up impeccably clean. I downloaded and used Memtest86+ ran 10 passes completely clean nothing was reported in need of fixing.
Sfc /scannow came back as no integrity errors. An Extended Version of Windows Memory Diagnostics with 5 passes came back clean also. There is no overheating of any sort. I do However use an external Hard drive to Store most of my video games in (WoW, LoL, SWtoR, Diablo 3, Warcraft 3). And after multiple crashes the Software needed to access my Hard Drive "Stops Working" and ill need to uninstall and re install it. Its a WD Smartware product. I feel like I'm flipping a coin when I turn on my laptop because it will crash numerous times and then finally that one time my laptop runs smooth w/o a problem.
I've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:

I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.
i recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. After 20 failed attempts to install windows 7 (it kept freezing at the completing installation part) it worked after i disconnected the new graphics card and one of the hard drives. Now, however, i keep on getting periodic blue screens with the following error messages : Memory Management, and PFN_List Corrupt. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said that the memory is fine. What is wrong with my computer? I also ran a system repair thing from the windows 7 disk, and it came up with this error: System File Integrity Check and Repair Error Code 0X490

For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again.How do I stop this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a wierd problem which I think is related to a dodgy keyboard. basically my customer has a G61-401sa laptop in which the Ctrl key seems to be constantly 'on' or pressed if you will. It's taken me a while to notice this ( through doing other things to her system) and in all honesty it isnt on all the time, however I noticed it yesterday after I was setting up her email and tried to paste her address into the required area (crtl +V) since then its on and off, more 'on' than off and I wondered if its possible to dissable the Ctrl key completely? obviously at some point she needs to replace the keyboard but I know shes loath to spend more money on a laptop she's had nothing but trouble with (loads of problems since she bought it from currys but thats another story)

We all know applications and websites can get access to our time zone, etc. I often use anonymous browser clients such as TOR & JonDo to protect my online privacy. For example, I might be set an IP address in Russia, but live in America. The thing is - websites can still access our time zone on the computer so they will I'm not in Russia but actually in xxxx state in America. I don't want to change the time to something random as I've heard this can destabilize the computer and its applications. So is it possible to disable it?
