View 1 RepliesOn my dell inspiron 15r the F1-F12 keys are covered by multimedia keys like volume, screen brightness, battery, internet, and other. I need to disable these because in some video games I play, I need to use these keys because they are set hotkeys that cannot be changed.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just had my system reinstaled with win 7 64bit professional, and can't find a way to disable the touchpad. i prefer to use a dedicated, and very handy usb mouse. i used to have windows home edition, on this hardware, and everything worked. just pressed Fn + F9, et voila: touchpad disabled, and just use the mouse..i noticed on device manager an unknown usb device, that keeps popping up. unpluged all devices (including the mouse), rebooted, and there it is again. weird, because all usb devices (pendrives, mouse, usb harddrives, usb wi-fi modem), seem to work ok. because of that, already updated the touchpad and usb drivers, to no avail.

My friend dropped his laptop and so he's got it connected to a little TV. It's in-tact, but for some reason, the touch-keys at the top of his keyboard are blinking constantly, which result in the sound, mute, wifi and everything notices blinking every second. How to disable the touch-keys? These are not the function keys. If I have to go through BIOS, any specific fn key to press? The screen is so bad, I couldn't tell which key to press during startup.

View 0 Replies View RelatedAre Windows 7 Product Keys tied to bit type as well as the version (Home Premium, Professional, etc)?
If one buys, say, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but decided to fall back to Professinoal 32-bit, does the Product Key work?
I have only used 32-bit XP and Vista, but am looking at switching to 64-bit with Windows 7 (new PC purchase) and I wasn't sure if the Product Keys are tied to the bit type you are using. Obviously, they are tied to the version (Home Premium, Professional, etc).
I've had the impression with the Windows 7 Beta/RC that a Windows 7 Ultimate Product Key, for example, will work on the 32 or 64-bit version, but wasn't sure.
Has anyone seen this shorctut Windows + P? To me it switches between modes of connected projectors.
I'm not sure I had tested this on Vista, but I think it's a new shortcut/feature..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been thinking of getting myself a nice new wireless mouse and keyboard, and I've noticed some of the high-end ones have a lot of "customizable MMO gaming keys". The Naga Epic Razer is pretty impressive with a (supposed) 17 customizable keys.

Another neat item is the Corsair k90. I want this one for it's mechanical-switch keys more than for the gaming-keys. But if I can put those keys to use... it could be worth it.

What I would like to know is... in Windows 7 itself (not the games) can you use these type of keys for certain shortcuts? Like, when I'm on the desktop, I could open up frequently used programs, at the tap of a key on my mouse? Or if I start a movie in VLC, could I link the keys to volume, play/pause or fast-forward/rewind functions?
I do game, somewhat, but these are pretty expensive peripherals. If I did buy them I would want them to be of use beyond just games. But so far as I've searched, I haven't found any indication that the keys can be used for non-gaming shortcuts.
I have a Sony VAIO with Win 7 64-bit, purchased around 2 months ago. Everything was working fine until yesterday when Sony VAIO update popped up from the task tray and prompted me to update a bunch of things, which I did. The entire process was automated as it was one of those system updates. After the update, I restarted computer, and then all the function keys stopped working. E.g.pressing FN + F1-12 won't do anything. Before the update I was able to use FN + F3/4 to adjust volume, but now nothing happens. Does anyone know what's going on? None of the updates failed to install and I restarted computer just like it said, and I'm assuming all updates that need to be installed will pop up in either Windows Update or VAIO Update? My Win update says my computer is up to date as well.

I am mainly concerned with the "pause" keyboard shortcut on windows media player.
The default is "CTRL+P" but I would much rather have "SPACE" key as the default like other popular media players like VLC, Media Player classic etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn windows XP, I used to be able use "ALT + E + S" to programmatically grab the contents of a command window. This does not work in Windows 7. When you right click on the title, the "Edit" selection no longer has the "E" underlined, indicating the shortcut key to use.
Does anyone know if there is a way to turn these back on?

View 9 Replies View Relatedlast night, without any reason, my f4, f5, f6, and esc keys stopped working. it solved itself, but shortly afterwords it did it again, and even after two reboots i cannot get them to work again. i use hotkeys all the time in firefox and elsewhere, and these are probably my most-used keys. they're very useful and not being able to use them feels really restricting. i don't know what caused this, but i do know that both times it happened i was browsing Internet. i don't know if that's coincidental or not, but at this point i just don't care.

I am sure I have read somewhere that you can skip entering the key and then re-arm the RTM version for 120 days. Is this correct?
I don't want to wipe a perfectly good system only to get to the end of the RTM install where you input the key and be stuck there!
