View 1 RepliesI am running Windows 7 Version 7260 on a dual boot with Windows XP3. I can get internet/network access when operating under Windows xp3, yet if I shut down completely then re-start into Windows 7 I have no internet access.
However, if I start up in Windows XP then reboot into Windows 7, internet access is retained and available in Windows 7. All very curious.
Troubleshooters does not help claiming I have a missing cable connection.
I've got a bit of a perplexing problem here that I hope somebody can provide some insight on. Set up the dual boot with your (very awesome) tutorial and everything works perfectly there. Windows 7 was installed first to the C: drive, XP is on an E: partition of the same drive. The D: drive is a second physical drive that is just used for file storage. If it matters, both physical drives are paired drives in Raid1.
The problem comes when I've loaded into Windows XP, I can't access the D: storage drive. It reads as size 0, and can't be formatted or read.
Under Windows 7, everything works. I can access the storage drive fine and have no problems using it.
I originally thought it was a permissions thing because the D: drive was formatted in Windows 7, but in XP I can read from the Windows 7 C: drive just fine.
I am at a loss, can anybody offer any suggestions as to why the drive would read fine under 7 but not when in XP?
I have installed Windows 7 on my Computer on a separate partition to Windows XP2 to have a dual boot set up. Now, I would like to allow Windows 7 access to the Programs I have operating with Windows XP. If possible without having to install them again for Windows 7. These programs are currently scattered over three partitions including the OS partition of Win XP
Majority of these appear to have system files in the Win XP OS.
Is there any simple way I can get these programs to function under Windows 7 without having to install them again for Windows 7?
my dell laptop came with vista and i decided to install windows seven recently and i did...however whenever i turn on the computer, i get the option of going on vista or windows 7.... which sucks not only is it a waste of time but my D drive is seriously full and i want to clean it out asap. So what can i do to remove windows vista completely off my system? Just to let you know, after some research i saw how you write some prompts in command prompts e.g it /export C:ootcd However they do not work because it says : The store export has failed. Access is denied

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have set up a dual boot- Windows 7 pro & XP ultimate, both on separate SSD's, all OK. I also have two 3TB HDD's set up under windows 7 RAID, all OK. In XP under drive management the RAID drives show up twice, once as 775GB unused drives with no drive letter allocated and also as 2.7GB RAID drives with status 'failed', drives marked as 'missing'. Is there a way I can get the RAID drive accessible under XP?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot windows 7 and XP PC (both 32 bit). I formatted the hard drive 3 weeks ago and installed fresh copies of Windows 7 (RC1 or 7100) and XP.
Everything was working fine until today, upon reboot, my windows seven stopped connecting to internet. I tried several methods in the control panel to connect without any success. So I went back to XP and the internet connects awesome. This confirms that there is no problem with the router or modem (I use a university T3 connection-sometimes go to 8 MB/sec!!!). I had a similar few days ago and I restarted the computer several times and it connected to the internet by itself. Zthis time it doesn't want to do it.
I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem. I really liked the Windows 7 and want to use it instead of XP. I have a custom built core 2 duo, 4 GB RAM (3.5 GB detected), 128 MB graphics card and 3 400GB hard drives.
I am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual. It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever.

I connect them to a hub and set a workgroup name. Everything is working fine. All of them are able to see each other and access their shared drives.
However, once I unplug internet line (all computers still connect to the same hub), computer cannot see each other and cannot access shared drives anymore. Also, workgroup name is changed to 'Unidentified Network'.
What should I do to connect to a network without internet connection?
I've college internet with 20MB per download limit which I feel is very low..On the same network, there are lab computers with unlimited d/l limit(obviously some firewall will prevent access).I want to access lab's internet using SSH tunneling so my PC has unlimited d/l coz i've heard many people have done it in our clg. Also there is something called "squid" on our college's network which prevents access to most sites. Please tell me the steps.

View 1 Replies View Related[code] I never had this issue on Windows Vista, occasionally my internet will randomly dropout. Limited Internet Access". When it does I can do a few things to get it working again:
- Disable, then enable my wireless card and reconnect.
- Uninstall the card, then re-install and reconnect.
- Disconnect from the internet myself and reconnect.
Either way it gets super frustrating. There is 1 other computer plugged directly into the router that does not experience any issues. In addition, I have 1 laptop (windows 7) that works great and 1 laptop (Windows XP) which works great.
I have a hp compaq laptop and am able to use the wireless internet connection..however I also have a Dell Inspiron notebook, a few days ago I lost internet connection on the dell but the HP was still connected. I have contacted my internet provider and they say there are no connection problems and all is fine. They think the problem is on the dell unit. I have tried disabling and enabling the Lan and wireless network connection. The system recognizes the wireless router but wont connect to it why and what can I do.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two harddrives, the primary one 584 GB, the secondary one 1.36 TB. When booting, my computer takes about a minute or two to fully load, but if I start to actually use it, virtually all programs will move slowly, consume lots of memory, explorer windows will take forever to load, and even cause my video card to stutter a bit.
A while ago, I unplugged the secondary drive, and found that my computer booted up much faster, and was infinitely more stable soon after loading.
But with two harddrives, in order to maintain stability, I often wait up to 5 - 10 minutes after booting to the desktop, just to be safe.
Is this a normal symptom of having two huge harddrives, both of which are filled with about 500 GB each, and programs like Norton security suite and messenger programs all needing to boot up? Or is this a problem with the second harddrive?
I have two SATA hard disks on my Dell Precision 690. I had Windows XP (x64) pre-installed in first disk. Recently I installed Windows 7 in the other disk. The Windows 7 works well and I get options to log into either Windows at startup. But I curiously observe that I cannot VPN to my employer from that Windows 7 installation. Also, I installed LogMein and that too is blocked. I have installed VMWare on the Windows 7 and I could perfectly run VPN and LogMein from that VMWare installation. I have tried hundreds of advises and settings in the Services section to no avail. I even cleaned the Windows 7 install and started afresh; still cannot log to VPN
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a long-time reader but new poster. I am currently running Windows 7. I want to install Windows XP onto another disc and have a dual-boot setup. I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.
If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?
Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?
I was running a dual boot XP SP3/XP SP3 until I recently clean installed Windows 7 32bit on C: partition (while keeping the other XP install). I used a boot manager to "find" my XP install, and I now dual boot Windows 7/XP. Both OSes start and run like they are supposed to.My issue is with Windows 7 MyDocuments security. Quite by accident, I discovered that when running XP, I could access, rename, change, and delete files in my Windows 7 MyDocuments folder. I went to Windows 7/Windows/system32 to see if I could rename or delete system files (yes, I made a backup just in case) but was denied. I booted into Windows 7 and tried the same thing to XP, but got the familiar "permission denied" popup.

Every time I manually start hibernation it will begin the process; the monitor will go blank, the harddrive starts making the image and after about 30 seconds the the monitor comes on and the computer is in normal operation. I have tried enabling it with the command line (powercfg -h on) as the administrator with no success. This just started yesterday. I have not installed any new applications or any new updates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI apparently downloaded a virus. Now no programs will work. Windows will boot up fine (although it takes a long time), but I cannot run any programs. Whether I click on a program icon or right click on it and choose "Open," nothing at all happens. I tried running fix_exe.reg and regfix.reg as recommended elsewhere in this forum, but nothing has changed. I tried doing a system restore to restore to factory defaults, and the computer reboots, but it is unchanged. I was able to remove the virus using the Linux-based Trinity Rescue Kit, booted from a CD, but still can't get any programs to run. Task Manager will open, and under "services," more than half of what is listed shows "stopped" under "status." If I right-click any of them and choose "start," I get the error message, "The operation could not be completed, Access is denied"

dual booting windows 7 home premium x64 with linux fedora 14 on dual independantly dedicated drives. i am a college student with moderate computer (windows) knowledge but am doing software development and would like to play around with some linux for a class. i have no prior experience with linux and have minimal knowledge of operation. i am currently running windows 7 and would like to keep it as my primary os. i do not wish to share media files across drives or os's, windows does that just fine as is and i dont want to get into a third drive. my current drive is a 1tb wd black caviar hdd. it is also currently 2/3rds full and the desktop is about 6 months old so i would rather not partition the drive for a dual boot. i would think that there are some other advantages for the os's operating independantly off their own drives other than if one hdd dies i should still have the other with its os still ok. i have read some topics about RAID configs with dual boot setups with dual drives like this but am not very familiar with RAID. is there a RAID config that would be beneficial in this situation? i currently do not have a RAID card. my tower internals are not very accessible and i dont like the idea of disconnecting drives depending on which os i want to operate.
