I am unable to delete a folder form my external hard disk. It says permission denied. It requires permission of the administrator. I am logged in as an administrator. I did everything possible with the security. It just doesn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I access a certain folder in my hard disk, after 2-5 seconds I get a dialog box saying "windows explorer has stopped working" and I get two options "check online" and "restart windows explorer" then I copied that folder to another destination and I could access it but the following days the new destination also started giving the same problem. I used tools like "scan disk" and "defragmentation" but nothing worked. I use Windows 7 64 bit unlimited.

I had copied over my old vista Users folder and finally got around to moving over all the files. I tried to delete the folder but 3 hidden folders don't won't to delete themselves leaving me stuck with the directories.

I've tried removing them through explorer, elevated command prompt, built-in administrator account. Trying to access them gives access denied, and try to change permissions on the file gives access denied, even in administrator account.Based on the command-prompt messages it seems like the folder have actually been deleted but the reference still exists under Documents.

I just loaded Win 7 pro and in my pictures library I have a folder path that goes to no where. It was a folder in my external drive that no longer exists . The problem is when I tried to do a back up it failed and said it was because the folder path was missing. I tried to delete the folder but it will not let me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI deleted my partitions by mistake. Drive originally had 2 partitions, 100MB (Windows 7 setup partitiion) and 930GB (Data storage partition). In summary:
1) I deleted the 100MB partition (because disk is(was) now storage disk) and 930gb partition were deleted too.
2) I started following a guide from microsoft and re-create the 2 partitions as RAW (without format).
3) I deleted the 2 raw partition and created a full space partition to the disk QUICK FORMATTING NTFS.
4) Started to try "Recuva" but most of the files recovered (1,000,000 files) are broken, i tried the option to recover Folder Structure but fails.
Is there any way to recover the files and Folder Structure properly? Except of the partitions deletions/creations I didn't write anything inside the disk.
i can not install dual-both window7 and window8 on my computer.i think that may be my hard is dynamite.not basic.
View 13 Replies View Relatedrecently i made a few videos with fraps that took up around 110 gigs of space, so i decided to compress all that and upload to Internet, the amount of space the videos are taking up are now down to 70, but my free disk space hasn't increased, in fact it's decreasing as if i never deleted the videos, it isn't decreasing on it's own only if i make files, so basically it'll take up space and it just stays that way for some reason.i've looked around the internet for a solution, i have tried:disabling automatic backup, that didn't do anything. scanned my computer with malwarebytes to make sure it isn't some worm, nothing found. used disk cleanup, cleared up 900 mb but the free space still didn't change. used ccleaner, cleared up 500 mb but the free space still didn't change. used disk check, nothing bad was found. used windirstat, everything seems fine as it should be, but theres 100 gigs of <unknown>, and i have no freaking clue what it is. used spacesniffer, found absolutely nothing that would take up that much space,i would use defraggler, but it will take way too long so i'd use it when i have no other option, there's gotta be another way other than literally waiting over a day for defraggler to finish, and chances are that it wouldn't change anything as well meaning i would have wasted a bunch of time,

If you try to delete a file off an additional hard drive (meaning not the primary drive) the system will delete it permanently. It will not ask you to move it to the Recycle Bin, it will just ask if you want to permanently delete the file. Any file on the drive will move to the Recycle Bin with no problem.
Also, files within archives (zip files) will permanently delete even if the archive is on the primary drive.
Is there a way of formatting a drive without deleting windows? I am trying to install windows 7 with a legitimate key on a hard drive, however I do not have a CD. Is there any way of installing windows 7 without a cd?

I also got a new 1TB hard drive while preserving my previous two hard drives which added up to 500GB, keeping them as slaves.I installed Windows 7 Home Premium (my previous OS was Vista), and everything is working fine. However, I would like to clear out the stuff in my previous hard drives because a large portion of the files in the "Program Files" folder is not usable any more, seeing as a large portion of them requires the corresponding registry keys to work (due to a fresh OS install).
My question is this: Do I have to follow any specific procedures when removing these files, or can I just delete them? I don't see how it can cause any harm to my registry since all the keys in the registry for the old files are no longer there.I don't think my computer's specifications are important, but I will gladly provide them if necessary.

I have few questions on Windows 7 Upgrade. Currently I'm using windows vista home premium 64 bit and I bought an windows 7 home premium 64 bit upgrade disk.
first thing is I want to format my previous operating system and all the data in my laptop and install windows 7 in it using the Upgrade disk.
second thing is I don't have my vista installation disk with, my laptop was pre-installed with vista so in future if I want to switch can I get back VISTA using system restore.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter installing IE9 from windows updates , can't open a folder or a hard disk by double clicking . Googling the problem found that there is a change in Registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Microsft/Windows/CurrentVersion/explorer/MountPoints2 which probably affected by virus .The hard disk was full scanned four times by Ad-Aware , Spyware doctors , AVG and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and found nothing . I deleted the MountPoints2 in Registry but after restarting appeared again . As a solution of this problem I used the Restore point created by IE9 installation and return to IE8 and everything is Ok . The probable conclusion is that the virus must be installed in the new Registry created by the IE9 installation or is triggering by the IE9 installation since there is no problem with IE8 . By-passing windows updates and downloading IE9 from Microsoft Download center would be usefull?

1) As User/Administrator, I have not set any "folder" security/passwords,
2) I can open, view, edit and delete any of the other folders on the NHD from the PC and can open, view, edit and delete ALL folders from the iMAC , 3) I have NO domain setup, only a WORK GROUP name, 4) Network access protection is OFF.
