i don't like the attached message when i try to delete a folder that contains another folder.
why can't it just say something like "cannot delete folder as it contains a subfolder"?
and just who is S-1-5-21-2525366777-830484531-1026876974-1000 anyway?
i turned off UAC long ago, hoping to avoid this permissions thang...
(i hope i haven't gravely compromised my system security by revealing that number!)
I had copied over my old vista Users folder and finally got around to moving over all the files. I tried to delete the folder but 3 hidden folders don't won't to delete themselves leaving me stuck with the directories.

I've tried removing them through explorer, elevated command prompt, built-in administrator account. Trying to access them gives access denied, and try to change permissions on the file gives access denied, even in administrator account.Based on the command-prompt messages it seems like the folder have actually been deleted but the reference still exists under Documents.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI deleted my partitions by mistake. Drive originally had 2 partitions, 100MB (Windows 7 setup partitiion) and 930GB (Data storage partition). In summary:
1) I deleted the 100MB partition (because disk is(was) now storage disk) and 930gb partition were deleted too.
2) I started following a guide from microsoft and re-create the 2 partitions as RAW (without format).
3) I deleted the 2 raw partition and created a full space partition to the disk QUICK FORMATTING NTFS.
4) Started to try "Recuva" but most of the files recovered (1,000,000 files) are broken, i tried the option to recover Folder Structure but fails.
Is there any way to recover the files and Folder Structure properly? Except of the partitions deletions/creations I didn't write anything inside the disk.
Im using windows 7 OS, I have 2 different Hard Disk 1 is for OS 40 gig and 2nd 80gig is for my files, problem is the second HDD have a partition of 11gig and 69gig, i use it previously for my XP OS.. now im trying to re size my partion in 2nd hdd im trying to make 11gig into like 25gig up.. and this is what ive done.. i partition my 69gig to 20-49 and i try to delete 30gig so that i can merge 11 gig and 20 gig..when i delete the 20gig it become free space. and when i try to merge 11 and 20gig i cant their is no function of extend in 11gig partition, and then when i try to make new simple volume in that 20gig i deleted it shows an error of "Their is not enough space on the disk to perform this operation"..
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been messing around with Ubuntu and other OS's and after I installed Ubuntu on a 5gb partition, I realized that is way too small, so I went into Windows, opened up Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) and just deleted the volume. Well now I have a green partition and when I try to delete the partition, I get the error "There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation" I am doing this all on my internal hard dive in my laptop.

I changed owners of the folder to Administrators went into the permissions and Selected Administrator and checked off allow for everything. when I hit apply, it should be all good according to the tutorial, but i got an error saying Error applying Security - access denied, then a second one that say Unable to save permission changes to document and settings.
I keep getting this bex error for explorer.exe, but that is only when I open a certain folder. It contains no special file formats, just mp4 videos, like all other season folder of that series. This happens as soon as I open the folder, so I don't know what's happening... perhaps it's trying to create a thumbnail of the video for display in the folder? Does anyone have any ideas? I have a problem when I click on a particular folder in my computer. You may not have permissions...." error in XP trying to open the shared folder. And what's up with not having a folder icon with a Share symbol in Windows 7 so by looking in Explorer you can tell a folder is shared?
I am trying to share my MUSIC folder on my Windows Home Server (WHS) to my Music Library.
Pretty simply structure, so thought this should not be a problem. If I add the entire folder to the Library only 1/3 of my songs are listed. In trying to understand what is happening I found that only 2 of the 5 sub-folders under MUSIC are included (Songs1 and Songs5).
Starting over, I removed the "MUSIC" folder from the Library and then proceeded to add each sub-folder indivually. What I found is I could add 2 sub-folders (Songs1 and Songs5), but adding the other 3 sub-folders returned an error message, "this network location can't be included because it is not indexed". If I add any new folder under MUSIC I can't add it to the Library either.
I'm thinking this has to be some type of security or user issue but can't think of what it would be since some of the sub-folders under MUSIC can be recognized, while others, including new folders, can not be added. Anyone have any suggestions?

Now that user id is no longer used, and it is a real pain because it starts with the same letter as a currently used ID, and when that letter is typed in, the old one pops into the sign in box. I input my product key, got windows loaded and then booted from the 64-bit CD instead.Here I chose the custom install feature and went to overwrite my old partition from the 32-bit version but it would not let me. I tried deleting it as well and I could not.
