Deleting Old Windows?
Aug 20, 2011
I recently had major problems accessing the internet and some other problems, so I reinstalled Win 7 Home Premium. I had problems reinstalling anmd had to do it a couple of times. I now find in explorer that I have Windows.old, windows.old000 and windows old.001. They do not shown in uninstall. They are taking up a lot of space and when I try to delete them I get messages saying that I need system permission to delete some files, so the folders will not delete. How do I get rid of them.I originally wanted to reformat the hard drive (after backing up everything I wanted on an external HDD) but at teh command prompt I was told thatI did not have sufficient privileges. Can anyone tell me how I can get the privileges to reformat the HDD.I have also found now that my internet connection is running so sloww as to be useless. It is down loading at about 600 BYTES per sec.

I thought that re-installing Win7 Upgrade over Vista using Custom install would get rid of ALL the win7 files. This needed to be done as the virus that got that computer was next to impossible to get off. After re-installing (twice to make sure) there are still files from the original install over Vista. The windows.old and windows.old.000 files are both referring to Win7. What I would like to do is this: Uninstall everything from Win7, taking me back to Vista, doing a recovery (alt-f12) so I have clean Vista then install Win7.

My windows keeps deleting files with an .lz extension right after they are downloaded to there . It deletes them for ABSOLUTELY no reason . The antivirus doesn't scream , nor the folder and files are in C: or in a system folder. The folder is mine and those files are needed for a game , so every time i start the game it downloads them again and again. I Observe how they comeup in the directory , and right after they are downloaded , windows deletes them (they dissapear).

I am helping my girlfriend installing Windows 7 on her Lapptop. What i/ we wanted to do is remove 'everything' from the laptop( os, programms, data ) and install the new OS.
I managed to install Windows 7 but was under the impression that it would delet all other data by doing so. Now we have a C: drive with all the sensetive data ( program files etc ), and a E: drive which has all the old data( not programms ) from before the new OS installation.
We have allready made backup of the data we need. I want to remove 'everything' from the E: so that all the space will be available. How can i do this? Can i just Ctrl+A and delete eveything or is there some other way to clear out the disc?

Anyway, I'll get straight to the meat. I have in my possession a Gateway laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. The person who owns this laptop ran TDSSKILLER, and deleted the TDL file system it detected (DR0). Now, naturally, it will not boot into Windows. To be more specific about the OS, it is Windows 7 Home Premium OA Acer Group. I do not have the original OS media. What can I do to get the system back up and running?

I have a Asus Eee Pc 1005ha that i want to install windows 7 on. I'm running xp with a single hdd (149.05gb total) that has 4 partitions set up like this. C: 72.06gb NFTS (system), D: 72.05gb NFTS, PE: 4.89gb FAT32 (unknown partition), No Volume: 47mb unknown type (EFI system partition) this partition displays diagonal lines in disk management. I want to remove these so I only have one C: drive (149gb) where win 7 will be installed. How would I go about removing these during the install procedure? Should i just delete the no volume, PE and D: drive? Or should I delete all 4 partitions? Little confused on this rather ask before I do something wrong. From what I read the 47mb partition is the asus boot booster which speeds up boot time which I don't think I need with win 7.

I foolishly removed folders from my HDD which I mistaken for one I was cleaning up.For some reason there were windows folders on it even though my operating system is on a separate SSD.I did it in mini XP using hirens.I tried several ways to reinstall and recover the folders before restarting my pc to see if I had stuffed up.On restart it went into repair mode,I tried a few things, still no good. Two questions, 1 why is there OS folders on my HDD? 2 can i recover or do i reinstall?

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron N7010. My system restore points are continuously deleting somehow. I have created restore points manually and I have seen the occasional restore point created from system updates. I will then check back after about an hour or so and the restore point is no longer there! I found that my volume shadow copy service was stopped - I restarted it and set it to auto start. I have system protection set to restore system settings and previous versions of files and have 1.46GB set aside for restore points. I have had it set as high as 2.93GB. I have my laptop set to go to sleep when I close the lid, so I'm wondering if that may be an issue.

For personal security reasons (two words: online poker,) I have embarked on a mission to make sure that there is 100% (or close to it..) certainty that no one can check or find out what applications were used and accessed on my computerother places / files might be checked in Windows 7 to check user / software activity, so I can deal with it accordingly! Encrypted operating system (True Crypt)Paging file removed and not beingsavedHibernation file removed and hibernation disabledDeleting MUI cacheDeleting prefetch filesUsing a .bat file that completely deletes ALL Windows 7 event logsTurning off memory dump fileDisabled and deleted windows restore pointsUsing CCleaner at the end of every sessionUsing Temporary File Cleaner after every sessionWiping free space (Gutman 35 passes) on my hard drive every few daysStuff like firewall/antivirus/anti-spyware/anti-malware/sandboxie I don't even mention because these are obvious. Now I need to make this clear: privacy is the most important thing for me in this case, so I am willing to sacrifice a lot of performance for it.

I have an old 7 installation that I'm having difficulties exterminating. I want to delete: Windows, Program Files, Program Files (x86). I am aware this is not advisable etc etc, but that advice is inapplicable here because the installation is now on a data disk. I've tried some command line stuff with "takeown" and tried giving full permissions, but it is remarkably stubborn. Everything I did partially worked, but ultimately failed to get the job done.

I don't know if this is a define behavior or a known bug, in any case the following are the steps to reproduce it:- Close all foreground applications.- Run Windows Explorer.- Run another applications.- Do the ALT + TAB (or ALT + TAB + SHIFT ) key combinations. A new "window" on the center of your desktop should appear. This window (I don't remember the name) shows all foreground applications actually running. You should see only two applications: Windows Explorer and the other one. Move back on Windows Explorer selecting it.- On Windows Explorer select a file to delete or create an empty one and select it.- Now, click the Canc key button or click on the file and from the popup menu that appears click on Delete menu item.- At this point ,the Windows Explorer Delete Folder dialog should appear, asking you to delete or not the file.- Do not click on the dialog, leave it as it is.- Now, move on to the other foreground application, with the ALT + TAB (or ALT + TAB + Shift) key combinations.

about 2 weeks ago i installed windows on a new custom built computer, and everything was fine till about 3 or 4 days ago when it suddenly wouldn't let me empty the recyle bin, or move or rename any file from anywhere, not even my external HD. It doesn't give me any error when I try, just nothing happens at all. Also when i try to make a new file or folder inside an existing one i get a system error 340. I've tried booting into safe mode and deleting/moving/renaming and nothing. Same with Unlocker nothing seems to work. Ide hate to have to install windows again and loose things i have downloaded since i can't move them to my external HD or burn them on a disk.

I want to either move or restart Windows Backup to a new drive. So I'd like to wipe the current Backup off the drive it is currently on. I really don't care that much about saving older recovery points. Is there a way to just switch where the recovery is saved and once a new restore point has been created on the new drive I could just delete the old files on the other drive?

Is it possible to merge C and D drives without deleting the data or having to format them. If it's possible, then how to do this in Windows 7? Notice both drives are almost full of data (not many games or programs).

So my creepy stalker over obsessive bf got onto my laptop while I was away and put in some kind of hack CD into my laptop and created his own 'virtual' account that he could log onto and delete the password off of my admin account. He went through all my stuff, found nothing, and changed my password. I cracked my password and the admin account he created with his CD thing, and the 'delete account' option is not showing in the user control place. I am pretty experienced when it comes to computers and all of that stuff but this account will NOT delete. I've even created new accounts, added passwords, made them admins, and I can delete those accounts.
So his special little account is really bugging me and I am at my wits end of busting his computer just because he thinks its ok to go through and change my things.
how to delete the account , its bugging me , and how to make sure he cant get on my laptop account again.

an old guy who's brand new to Windows. Just bought an Acer D257 for my adult son. But he has a serious mental illness and wants zero possibility of receiving porn from the Internet or by email. I'M PROUD OF HIM FOR THAT. I was able to delete Internet Explorer and Firefox (that I'm sure 99.9 percent of you think is absurd! He wants the Acer for writing!) but I can't get rid of Windows Live Mail or McAfee or Norton files.
