Windows 7 Keeps Deleting My Files

Jul 2, 2010

My windows keeps deleting files with an .lz extension right after they are downloaded to there . It deletes them for ABSOLUTELY no reason . The antivirus doesn't scream , nor the folder and files are in C: or in a system folder. The folder is mine and those files are needed for a game , so every time i start the game it downloads them again and again. I Observe how they comeup in the directory , and right after they are downloaded , windows deletes them (they dissapear).

Deleting Folders - Windows Program Files (x86)?

Aug 11, 2010

I have an old 7 installation that I'm having difficulties exterminating. I want to delete: Windows, Program Files, Program Files (x86). I am aware this is not advisable etc etc, but that advice is inapplicable here because the installation is now on a data disk. I've tried some command line stuff with "takeown" and tried giving full permissions, but it is remarkably stubborn. Everything I did partially worked, but ultimately failed to get the job done.

Windows 7 Deleting / Renaming / Moving Files

Jan 21, 2011

about 2 weeks ago i installed windows on a new custom built computer, and everything was fine till about 3 or 4 days ago when it suddenly wouldn't let me empty the recyle bin, or move or rename any file from anywhere, not even my external HD. It doesn't give me any error when I try, just nothing happens at all. Also when i try to make a new file or folder inside an existing one i get a system error 340. I've tried booting into safe mode and deleting/moving/renaming and nothing. Same with Unlocker nothing seems to work. Ide hate to have to install windows again and loose things i have downloaded since i can't move them to my external HD or burn them on a disk.

Deleting Files That Haven't Used In A While?

Jun 22, 2012

I was wondering if there is an option/program that you can use, to get rid of ALL the files that you haven't used for 1/2/3/4 months or more?I'd like to get rid of all theunnecessary/junk files that possibly hung on even after I uninstalled the software etc.Since I don't remember everything I've ever installed I would just like to get rid of everything on my pc that hasn't been used in let's say 2-3 months. I am using Win7 Ultimately hope I was able to communicate my issue correctly as English isn't my first language)I did do all I can manually, but you see my PC has 60GB on the (C) drive and it's currently using 50. I do have (D) and (E) which both have a terabyte each, but I would still like to get to the bottom of why (C) is so full even after I have cleaned out pretty much everything that isn't essential.

how to "delete" unwanted files on DVD Writable disks. Do I need another piece of software to do that or WIN 7 can do it.

Today, I took out an old DVD disk that had files written on it previously by NERO in XP, and added files to it. That was OK. But then, I need to replace one of the files, so I went and delete it, but I can find anyway to delete the file, now can I add any more files to the DVD it seems.

I went back to XP and use NERO on the same disk, deleted the file, replace it with new one, and all are fine.

Renaming And Deleting Folders And Files?

Nov 22, 2009

What I describe below doesn't always happen but it does lots of times: Let's say I delete a folder, it will tell me that access is denied, a program is using it, to solve that, I have to open another folder, or click on an image, then go back to the folder I want to delete, and delete it.

Renaming (this is all over the network) here's what I do:
1. Open randomly named folder to check content.
2. Go back up one folder level to rename the folder according to content.
3. Error! Folder is in use by another program (not specified), please try again
4. Try opening another folder and then going back again to rename originally wanted folder... sometimes it works.
5. Wait 5-10 minutes before renaming.

I just tried to rename a folder without even going into the folder....Error!! "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."

Windows 7 ultimate x64.

Deleting Files From Advanced 'Search Results'?

Mar 31, 2011

I don't know why Microsoft made this so difficult in Windows 7 / Server 2008..I use the Windows Advanced search to find files containing a certain word, it pulls up a list of results... I can "select all" and I can do things like copy them to another location, but I CAN'T find a way to delete these files!!If I click the DELETE key while they are all selected, nothing happens. It's not allowing me to drag the files into the Recycle Bin.Am I missing something here? It seems that all options that are normally available when right-clicking on file(s) are present in the right-click menu (open with, send to, create shortcut, etc) EXCEPT for cut or delete.

Confirmation Box For Deleting Files Takes Way Too Long

Mar 5, 2011

When I try to delete a file, either by choosing the "delete" option on the context menu or by pressing the "delete" key with the file selected, it take between something like 20 to 60 seconds to show me the usual confirmation window (the one with "Are you sure you want to delete file XXX.X?"). It's quite annoying, however it seems that that is the only problem. When the confirmation windows does come up the file can be deleted OK and I can drag and drop files to the recycling bin without any problems.

Deleting Large Number Of Files Very Slow

Apr 17, 2012

I run a software tool that often generates 75,000 - 100,000 small files that need to be deleted after the software exits. Right now, it can take 8 - 10 minutes to permanently delete all these files from a single run, and I usually have 4 - 8 runs to deal with, so do the math. I have tried shift-del to permanently delete but it doesn't work - Windows still copies everything to the recycle bin. Also, while moving the files to the recycle bin, I often get an error message: "Error 0x80070050: The file exists." Bottom line is that it takes a *really* long time just to delete these files and I need a quicker way to do it.

Deleting Files And Multiple Hard Drives

Nov 26, 2009

I have discovered an issue with Windows 7 that has become quite annoying. I have tested it with many scenarios and the issue continues to exist.

If you try to delete a file off an additional hard drive (meaning not the primary drive) the system will delete it permanently. It will not ask you to move it to the Recycle Bin, it will just ask if you want to permanently delete the file. Any file on the drive will move to the Recycle Bin with no problem.

Also, files within archives (zip files) will permanently delete even if the archive is on the primary drive.

Deleting And Editing Files And Folders On External Usb HD

Aug 28, 2011

I have a Windows 7 pc. My old one was running xp. I have a Seagate external HD that was hooked up to the old pc, and now to the new one.

When I access the external now and attempt to delete folders, or maybe add something to a text file and save, I'm basically told I can't.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the fact that most of these files and folders were created when I had my xp machine? Have tried to go into permissions and make changes, but don't really know which ones. Everything I try yields the same result...NO-CAN-DO BUDDY! This is my computer and these are my files.

Deleting Files On Previous Hard Drives?

Apr 15, 2012

I apologize if this is not the category to ask this in, but I wasn't sure whether to put my question here or in Vista. Hell, I don't even know whether this place is the correct place to ask this question, but I decided to take a shot since I frequent the site. Two days ago, my motherboard bit the dust, and upon the recommendation of the tech whom I worked with, replaced my:

motherboard
RAM
PSU

I also got a new 1TB hard drive while preserving my previous two hard drives which added up to 500GB, keeping them as slaves.I installed Windows 7 Home Premium (my previous OS was Vista), and everything is working fine. However, I would like to clear out the stuff in my previous hard drives because a large portion of the files in the "Program Files" folder is not usable any more, seeing as a large portion of them requires the corresponding registry keys to work (due to a fresh OS install).

My question is this: Do I have to follow any specific procedures when removing these files, or can I just delete them? I don't see how it can cause any harm to my registry since all the keys in the registry for the old files are no longer there.I don't think my computer's specifications are important, but I will gladly provide them if necessary.

Recover Files After Deleting Partition With Folder Structure?

Jul 16, 2011

I deleted my partitions by mistake. Drive originally had 2 partitions, 100MB (Windows 7 setup partitiion) and 930GB (Data storage partition). In summary:

1) I deleted the 100MB partition (because disk is(was) now storage disk) and 930gb partition were deleted too.
2) I started following a guide from microsoft and re-create the 2 partitions as RAW (without format).
3) I deleted the 2 raw partition and created a full space partition to the disk QUICK FORMATTING NTFS.
4) Started to try "Recuva" but most of the files recovered (1,000,000 files) are broken, i tried the option to recover Folder Structure but fails.

Is there any way to recover the files and Folder Structure properly? Except of the partitions deletions/creations I didn't write anything inside the disk.

Free Disk Space Does Not Increase After Deleting Files?

Sep 2, 2012

recently i made a few videos with fraps that took up around 110 gigs of space, so i decided to compress all that and upload to Internet, the amount of space the videos are taking up are now down to 70, but my free disk space hasn't increased, in fact it's decreasing as if i never deleted the videos, it isn't decreasing on it's own only if i make files, so basically it'll take up space and it just stays that way for some reason.i've looked around the internet for a solution, i have tried:disabling automatic backup, that didn't do anything. scanned my computer with malwarebytes to make sure it isn't some worm, nothing found. used disk cleanup, cleared up 900 mb but the free space still didn't change. used ccleaner, cleared up 500 mb but the free space still didn't change. used disk check, nothing bad was found. used windirstat, everything seems fine as it should be, but theres 100 gigs of <unknown>, and i have no freaking clue what it is. used spacesniffer, found absolutely nothing that would take up that much space,i would use defraggler, but it will take way too long so i'd use it when i have no other option, there's gotta be another way other than literally waiting over a day for defraggler to finish, and chances are that it wouldn't change anything as well meaning i would have wasted a bunch of time,

Deleting Domain User Accounts, Profiles, And Files

Mar 12, 2010

Im a new user of Windows 7, just turned it on for the first time a few days ago, but Im pretty familiar with the setup since Ive used Vista for over a year now. This Windows 7 machine that I just turned on a few days ago is a new work machine for another employee here at my place of work. Ive gone ahead and already added it to our domain, and Ive signed onto it using multiple user accounts that were created in our Active Directory. My question is, how can I go about deleting those Domain User Accounts, Profiles, and Files off of this Windows 7 computer? Ive already made the mistake of deleting the user folder in the C:Users folder, just to find out that if I deleted a user and tried to sign back on as that user (thinking it would create a new profile folder in C:Users), it created a temporary profile.

In the past when using XP all I would normally have to do is delete the user profile folder in C:Documents and Settings and I was able to sign back in as that user and have a new profile created.
