Safely Deleting Contents / Files In AppData?
Feb 20, 2010I would like to know if I can safely delete the files in C:UsersArchangelAppDataLocalTemp theirs lots of hdd space. I could gain if its ok too delete these files.

I also install most of my programs to D: Since that time I have some files in my C: users****Appdata that are growing quite large. When I right click on the folder properties there is no location option for me to change. Somewhere along the line that great little program that assisted me to move them has disappeared and for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. I would really like to get these large files off my tiny SSD.

Feb 5, 2011I was trying to display Hidden Folders/files to access an appdata folder under C:Usersusernameappdata. (it's to fix an issue with the game Dead Space 2) Anyway, I opened My Computer, then C drive, then Users. In here, I right clicked on empty space and opened properties. I checked 'Hidden' and apply. Said it needed administrator rights, I accepted. Then most desktop items disappeared, most files from my documents disappeared and after reboot, The ATI catalyst control centre is popping up an error message saying 'failed to start'.I realised I chose to hide all the files within that folder instead of showing hidden files/folders..I went to folder options and chose Show Hidden file and I can see them again but they have that see through look to them. ATI catalyst still won't start on reboot. I tried system restore to yesterday but still exact same.When I go to User Properties on the C drive again, it shows the files as Read Only and Hidden is unchecked.

Jun 24, 2012I tried using 7-zip, but I don't have it in the menu when I right click which it's supposed to be. So I went to the series of iso files and extracted them to a new folder but 4 minutes later all the files were in just one big iso and when I tried to extract that, it said the archive couldn't be accessed. I'm not trying to make a bootable disk; I need the files within the iso and I would rather not waste DVDs unnecessarily.

Oct 7, 2012I have a PC with a SSD C:/ drive that I use for program files only. I also have several other hard drives used for music, photos, etc... If I click on properties for my C drive, I see that 66GB of the total 96GB is used. That seemed high for just program files so I expanded the view and looked at each one.
Windows - 22.3GB
Users - 6.87GB
Prog 86 - 2.39
Prog - 0
NVidia - 207MB
Miller - 63.5MB
So you can see that I can only see about 33GB of what is supposed to be 65.9GB used. How can I see what is eating up the rest of the space? I went into Ctl Panel and clicked on View Hidden Files but still only see about half of what the system says in on the disk.
Reroute All Users / Program Files Safely To Another Drive (D)?
Jul 16, 2011I have Windows installed on an SSD drive. I want to reroute all the users folder to another drive (D:). Is this possible? if so how? What about changing the specified installation folder for program files and program files (x86) to point to the D: drive also? How can I do this safely and making sure that it will not make Windows go a bit dodgy and still have Windows Updates successfully download and install?

Feb 21, 2012Maybe I'm just over thinking here, but say you hide a file, sure you can access it through changing the folder options from show to do not show. So whats the point of hiding stuff unless you're hiding it from someone who is a novice at windows 7. My main goal here, is to have a folder, which is password protected, and have it filled with things that can not be accessed through any means other than entering the correct password and therefore entering the folder. I basically want it to be completely impossible for someone to access the contents of the folder without the password.

Today, I took out an old DVD disk that had files written on it previously by NERO in XP, and added files to it. That was OK. But then, I need to replace one of the files, so I went and delete it, but I can find anyway to delete the file, now can I add any more files to the DVD it seems.
I went back to XP and use NERO on the same disk, deleted the file, replace it with new one, and all are fine.

When I try to delete them the message is, "You require permission from "TrustedInstaller" to make changes to this file". "Unlocker" can delete these files but only one at a time. Jul 2, 2010My windows keeps deleting files with an .lz extension right after they are downloaded to there . It deletes them for ABSOLUTELY no reason . The antivirus doesn't scream , nor the folder and files are in C: or in a system folder. The folder is mine and those files are needed for a game , so every time i start the game it downloads them again and again. I Observe how they comeup in the directory , and right after they are downloaded , windows deletes them (they dissapear).

Nov 22, 2009What I describe below doesn't always happen but it does lots of times: Let's say I delete a folder, it will tell me that access is denied, a program is using it, to solve that, I have to open another folder, or click on an image, then go back to the folder I want to delete, and delete it.
Renaming (this is all over the network) here's what I do:
1. Open randomly named folder to check content.
2. Go back up one folder level to rename the folder according to content.
3. Error! Folder is in use by another program (not specified), please try again
4. Try opening another folder and then going back again to rename originally wanted folder... sometimes it works.
5. Wait 5-10 minutes before renaming.
I just tried to rename a folder without even going into the folder....Error!! "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."
Windows 7 ultimate x64.

Nov 14, 2012I recently built a windows 7 computer and It has been running great. However, about a fortnight ago my computer ran CHKDSK, said that it has deleted some files and now I can't get past the windows loading screen even in safe mode. Startup repair didn't help and the installation CD didn't recognise the OS thus not allowing me to go into repair mode. I reinstalled the OS, but just today it has happened again.

Mar 31, 2011I don't know why Microsoft made this so difficult in Windows 7 / Server 2008..I use the Windows Advanced search to find files containing a certain word, it pulls up a list of results... I can "select all" and I can do things like copy them to another location, but I CAN'T find a way to delete these files!!If I click the DELETE key while they are all selected, nothing happens. It's not allowing me to drag the files into the Recycle Bin.Am I missing something here? It seems that all options that are normally available when right-clicking on file(s) are present in the right-click menu (open with, send to, create shortcut, etc) EXCEPT for cut or delete.

It's quite annoying, however it seems that that is the only problem. When the confirmation windows does come up the file can be deleted OK and I can drag and drop files to the recycling bin without any problems.

Uninstallation using Revo Uninstaller and reinstallation didn't seem to solve the problems. I am aware this is not advisable etc etc, but that advice is inapplicable here because the installation is now on a data disk. I've tried some command line stuff with "takeown" and tried giving full permissions, but it is remarkably stubborn. Everything I did partially worked, but ultimately failed to get the job done.
