Is it possible to merge C and D drives without deleting the data or having to format them. If it's possible, then how to do this in Windows 7? Notice both drives are almost full of data (not many games or programs).

i installed windows 7 and i don't know what i did wrong, but this is what i end up with
C: 1.66 GB free of 9.44 , where as i have total of 80 GB hard drive. and then i have drive "E" which has 64 GB hard drive.
so how can i merge this two drive?
I have a C: drive and an E: drive on a Windows 7 X64 Media Center PC. Both have a directory called "Movies" ... when I start Windows Media Center and go to "Videos" I have a C:Movies AND an E:Movies.
Is it possible to merge both these directories into a single directory in Windows Media Center?
The C drive is 95% full so I can't copy the movies from the E: drive onto C: and the E: drive is 95% empty... so over time I'll add more movies to my collection (on the E: drive) and would really like to have ALL the movies from both C:Movies and E:Movie listed in a single directory and arranged alphabetically....
Ps. I've already tried adding both directories to the windows library 'Movies' directory but you can't access the 'Movie' library from within the Media Center!
I have 2 computers that I want to get rid of. One has win 7 and is a desktop and the other is an ols laptop with XP. What I would like to do is to wipe the data off the disk without killing the O/S. The only apps I've found so far do an entire clean.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have discovered an issue with Windows 7 that has become quite annoying. I have tested it with many scenarios and the issue continues to exist.
If you try to delete a file off an additional hard drive (meaning not the primary drive) the system will delete it permanently. It will not ask you to move it to the Recycle Bin, it will just ask if you want to permanently delete the file. Any file on the drive will move to the Recycle Bin with no problem.
Also, files within archives (zip files) will permanently delete even if the archive is on the primary drive.

Hell, I don't even know whether this place is the correct place to ask this question, but I decided to take a shot since I frequent the site.Two days ago, my motherboard bit the dust, and upon the recommendation of the tech whom I worked with, replaced my:

I also got a new 1TB hard drive while preserving my previous two hard drives which added up to 500GB, keeping them as slaves.I installed Windows 7 Home Premium (my previous OS was Vista), and everything is working fine. However, I would like to clear out the stuff in my previous hard drives because a large portion of the files in the "Program Files" folder is not usable any more, seeing as a large portion of them requires the corresponding registry keys to work (due to a fresh OS install).
My question is this: Do I have to follow any specific procedures when removing these files, or can I just delete them? I don't see how it can cause any harm to my registry since all the keys in the registry for the old files are no longer there.I don't think my computer's specifications are important, but I will gladly provide them if necessary.
I have a system with three hard disks on them. The Primary one has the OS and some programs. Secondary one has programs and data (like pictures and such). Third one has data and backup data.I recently formatted the Primary drive which had Windows Vista on it, and did a full install of Windows 7 Pro.After the install, the Secondary and Tertiary disks showed up in disk management; I just had to assign drive letters to them.The issue: I can see the existing Secondary and Tertiary disks in windows explorer. I can go into properties on each hard disk and see that there is used disk space on them (so the data is still there). But Windows Explorer shows both hard disks as empty. I can't actually see any of the data. What can I do to fix this...obviously without formatting the disks and losing the existing data on there? Is this perhaps a driver issue?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to moved everything---program files as well as data files---from one laptop to another. The source is XP, the destination Windows 7 Home Premium 64. From what (little) I understand, most imaging programs clone everything, including the XP register and boot drive. But how can you then boot the Windows 7 machine to run the programs that were originally instaled in XP?I know I can just drag over the data files and re-install all the software, but I am not sure I will live long enough to complete that task.

I know I can clone the drives onto two separate partitions of my new drive, and then do a partition merge and resize to fill up all the free space. Or I can turn on view hidden and system files and simply drag & drop the contents of both drives to my new one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with transferring data between hard drives in my system. I have 3 500 GB drives in my system connected via esata. Just a few minutes ago I tried transferring 24.1 GB from one hard drive to another and it took forever I was getting under 10 MB per second. Once I got everything transferred I created a folder in the drive I moved everything to and then moved the same 24.1 GB plus another folder that was 10 GB and everything transferred into the folder instant, so fast I couldn't every look to see how long it was taking cause it was there the minutes I moved the folders to the new folder. Why did it take so long transferring that same data from one hard drive to another one in my system?? I should be getting a whole lot more than 10 MB per second.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried these discs on two computers (they're Sony DVD-RW's) and brand new, I open them and put them in the disc tray, I press "burn" and it either pretends to write on one computer and then says error after 3minutes (no data is recorded) or it doesn't detect the disc it keeps saying "Please insert a Disc"? I've tried literally everything and I doubt it could be the disc's because they're brand new. The windows fix it centre program identifies an issue but cannot fix it?

However i now have 2 PCs that need backup performed and they just want the data so an image is not necessary thus i only want the important data ie; documents and settings important files no junk such as updates or temp files
I would prefer to remove the hard drives and plug it into another pc to perform the backup instead of doing the back up from the actual machine

I want to merge C and D which are two partions on the same drive. Both drives are Logical drives, and they are both surrounded by that green rectangle. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been the owner of a Vertex 2 120 GB for a year now and everything was perfect. I am using Windows 7 on the SSD (AHCI mode); my computer has also a 1 TB hard disk. Last week I created a second partiion on SSD and installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview (dual-boot with Windows 7). After few days I decided to stay with Windows 7 , so I format the 2nd partition and merge it with the first (using Paragon Partition Manager). The operation completed successfully, however, after restarting, the BIOS hangs at:
Controller Bus#0, Device#1F, Function#02: 06 Ports, 02 Devices
(although there are 3: the SSD, the HDD and the DVD-RW)
If I remove the other two devices and try only the SSD, I get: Port-00: No device Detected.
Without the SSD connected, the computer boots from the HDD. If I plug the SSD while the operating system is running from the HDD (I also have Windows installed on it), the drive is recognized and shown in Windows Explorer. I tried flashing the firmware on SSD from this Windows and succeeded, but still no change. The SSD light is green, I reseted the CMOS by removing the battery on mainboard, I reseted the BIOS to the default settings...nothing works! Then I changed in BIOS from AHCI to IDE mode and I can boot now from SSD! However, Paragon Partition Manager shows me this:
"Invalid Partition - Unknown : Paragon Hard Disk Manager has discovered problems with this partition. It must have been caused by an incorrect geometry. In order to resolve the issue, please collect LOG-files and send them to our Support Team".
However, Disk Management in Windows shows no error, so. But how do I get back to AHCI? I tried to activate it again and the SSD hasn't been recognized again. Do I have to Secure Erase the drive using OCZ Toolbox and reinstall Windows? If I change back to AHCI in BIOS after Secure Erase, will the SSD be recognized?
I'm running Word 2010 on Windows 7 x64. I've merged addresses in an Excel workbook to an envelope document using the standard mail merge wizard. I'd like to print these 10 at a time since that's all I can fit in my printer's feed tray. I click on Finish & Merge and then Print Documents and enter the range to print. Regardless of the starting record I enter, it always starts printing from the first record. I'm using an HP CP2025 Color LaserJet.

It's a new HP DV6 that had Vista pre-installed on it.
I've taken a look at it, and there's a "Windows.old" folder on the root of C:, which is of course a back up of all his data.
There's also a batch file inside the folder with the following inside of it:
"REM Dummy file for NTVDM"
I'm wondering if there's a way to "continue" the upgrade / merging process? He has asked me to re-install all of his software the way he had it. So i'm hoping there's an easier way to continue where he left off.
I know Windows 7 creates a "Windows.old" folder when upgrading from XP. Not sure why one was created for a Vista to Windows 7 upgrade though.

I had problems reinstalling anmd had to do it a couple of times. I now find in explorer that I have Windows.old, windows.old000 and windows old.001. They do not shown in uninstall. They are taking up a lot of space and when I try to delete them I get messages saying that I need system permission to delete some files, so the folders will not delete. How do I get rid of them.I originally wanted to reformat the hard drive (after backing up everything I wanted on an external HDD) but at teh command prompt I was told thatI did not have sufficient privileges.Can anyone tell me how I can get the privileges to reformat the HDD.I have also found now that my internet connection is running so sloww as to be useless. View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.
