Because of recent problem while trying out Ubuntu, I had to partition my harddrive
My hd capacity - 500 gb
C: - 48.8gb - Windows 7 OS + programme files
D: - 416gb - Storage memory - nothing so important
Total - 464.8 [could this be 500gb in marketing terms?]
I would be more happier if I could have a single hd with Full ~500gb in it
Could anyone help me doing this - even if it takes to format the WHOLE hdd, I am ok

I want to merge my C and D drive. My drives look like this I've read several threads on merging/extending threads. But my issue doesnt seem to come up that often. I want to merge C and D which are two partions on the same drive. Both drives are Logical drives, and they are both surrounded by that green rectangle. Neither of them allow me to delete or expand/extend (Whichever windows in english uses).

I just recently purchased a new internal hard drive, which will be used as storage alongside my main hd, and for some reason it has two unallocated spaces (see picture).I've looked around the forums and tried creating the partition on the first unallocated space and trying to extend it but the option isn't shown.

I have been the owner of a Vertex 2 120 GB for a year now and everything was perfect. I am using Windows 7 on the SSD (AHCI mode); my computer has also a 1 TB hard disk. Last week I created a second partiion on SSD and installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview (dual-boot with Windows 7). After few days I decided to stay with Windows 7 , so I format the 2nd partition and merge it with the first (using Paragon Partition Manager). The operation completed successfully, however, after restarting, the BIOS hangs at:
Controller Bus#0, Device#1F, Function#02: 06 Ports, 02 Devices
(although there are 3: the SSD, the HDD and the DVD-RW)
If I remove the other two devices and try only the SSD, I get: Port-00: No device Detected.
Without the SSD connected, the computer boots from the HDD. If I plug the SSD while the operating system is running from the HDD (I also have Windows installed on it), the drive is recognized and shown in Windows Explorer. I tried flashing the firmware on SSD from this Windows and succeeded, but still no change. The SSD light is green, I reseted the CMOS by removing the battery on mainboard, I reseted the BIOS to the default settings...nothing works! Then I changed in BIOS from AHCI to IDE mode and I can boot now from SSD! However, Paragon Partition Manager shows me this:
"Invalid Partition - Unknown : Paragon Hard Disk Manager has discovered problems with this partition. It must have been caused by an incorrect geometry. In order to resolve the issue, please collect LOG-files and send them to our Support Team".
However, Disk Management in Windows shows no error, so. But how do I get back to AHCI? I tried to activate it again and the SSD hasn't been recognized again. Do I have to Secure Erase the drive using OCZ Toolbox and reinstall Windows? If I change back to AHCI in BIOS after Secure Erase, will the SSD be recognized?

I have a C: drive and an E: drive on a Windows 7 X64 Media Center PC. Both have a directory called "Movies" ... when I start Windows Media Center and go to "Videos" I have a C:Movies AND an E:Movies.
Is it possible to merge both these directories into a single directory in Windows Media Center?
The C drive is 95% full so I can't copy the movies from the E: drive onto C: and the E: drive is 95% empty... so over time I'll add more movies to my collection (on the E: drive) and would really like to have ALL the movies from both C:Movies and E:Movie listed in a single directory and arranged alphabetically....
Ps. I've already tried adding both directories to the windows library 'Movies' directory but you can't access the 'Movie' library from within the Media Center!

Is it possible to merge C and D drives without deleting the data or having to format them. If it's possible, then how to do this in Windows 7? Notice both drives are almost full of data (not many games or programs).

I'm running Word 2010 on Windows 7 x64. I've merged addresses in an Excel workbook to an envelope document using the standard mail merge wizard. I'd like to print these 10 at a time since that's all I can fit in my printer's feed tray. I click on Finish & Merge and then Print Documents and enter the range to print. Regardless of the starting record I enter, it always starts printing from the first record. I'm using an HP CP2025 Color LaserJet.

in windows 7 i see 3 different attributes for files, either .jpg or .mts (my hd videos)of date, date modified, date created. after i sort and batch process my pictures, all my date modified and date created get rewritten to the current date, and only "date" and the sequential files names i give them keep the order...my videos on the other hand, in a different folder, will be in correct chronological order if i sort by "date modified".so the question becomes, as i merge them into one folder, or one into the other's current folder...how do i get them all to appear in correct chronological order, as they were taken, throughout the whole year?i.e. pictures and videos interspersed. so i can do one big rename selecting all and starting with "2011CV(1000)"i've tried a bunch of batch file renames, but they rename, rather than allow me to tweak meta data, if anyone has ever been able to batch rewrite the date created, from the windows 7 describer "date" or "date modified", i think it would solve my problem, but i can't find any.

Right now I have an old 500 GB that I use for my backups. When I want to make a backup I open my case, start the computer, attach the drive to a SATA cable, make an image with Macrium Reflect Free, shut down the computer, remove the drive, close the case and restart the system. I also take the drive to my daughter's place from time to time to make an image of her system to my 500 GB drive using the same method. This is not a lot of work but it is not very convenient.I would like to get basic understanding of how a NAS drive works. The WD Live seems to be popular. Is that a good choice? If I understand correctly, I would attach such a drive to my router and then I could access it from my computer or my daughter's computer. Am I correct?Could I still use Macrium Reflect to make an image to that drive? Is the software that comes with the drive reliable regarding security. Obviously I want my data to be only accessible from my daughter's computer or mine.

I have a new HP Pavilion g7-1260us Notebook PC running Windows Home Premium 64bitFrom about the second day of use the HP_TOOLS(E:) has been warning me that it is almost full. I think it is performing back ups to this partition. Anyone have clue what is happening or what I should do about it? This is my first laptop and first HP PC, so unfamiliar with their jargon. I have three PC's all on Windows 7 running on a home network. I have a good PC which has been replaced, which I would like to put on the network with four hard drives, I would like to backup the data from each PC onto its own HD in the PC.
I have looked at several programs to effect a real time backup system but need some advice at to which to use. (preferably a freeby as being retired money is short) If possible I would like to be able to restore each program data seperately if required, rather than have to restore all the backed up data to a certain PC as one file. Any help gratefully rec'd.

Backup and Restore. Windows Vista's stellar backup and restore features have been streamlined and simplified in Windows 7. Like its predecessor, Windows 7 supports both data backup and image-based system backup, but now the UIs are more segregated.
So, as long as I back up my files using back up and restore then when RC1 comes along I just install then restore and all will be the same as beta was before nuking it? Sounds simple enough what could possibly go wrong that is my question. I am using a usb flash drive for backing up. Will there be a conflict between Fat and NTFS ?

i just got a new 320gb hard drive for my thinkpad and installed it with no problems, and then did a clean install of windows 7. everything is working fine, but i'm wondering about setting up partitions and backups.
i back up my files to an external hard drive every couple weeks or so. i don't have anything set up on my laptop, though.
should i set up a partition on my laptop to create a backup?
how big should the partition be?
can i set it up even though i've already installed and formatted the drive?
any suggestions for an app to do backups with?

I have a LaCie 2TB external drive that I use to backup my internal drives using Acronis TI. On WinXP I was using Firewire800 and it worked flawlessly. When I switched to Windows 7 the Firewire800 transfer speed dropped dramatically. I've contacted LaCie and they say they can't guarantee Firewire800 with Windows7. I switched back to using USB and it works, but still slow. Would it be worth my while to install and run my TI backups via Firewire in virtual XP mode? Will this in fact work?
ps. does anyone foresee better future support in Windows7 for Firewire800?

I currently have a hard drive set as a backup drive but am getting the message that there's no room left on the drive to write the new backups. I have to go in and manually delete the old backups. Is there anyway Windows 7 can automatically do this to so that it can write the new ones? I couldn't find any and after searching Google it doesn't look like it's possible. Is there any way through Task Scheduler maybe?

So now as I can understand my recovery partition will not work.
Should I delete it or is there any way to fix it?
and is there anyway to create similar partition for windows 7?
And question about backups:
As I don't have external HD, can I do backups like this:
Laptop A backup to Laptop B
Laptop B backup to Laptop A

How do I make and restore backups from Windows 7?Ho do I make and restore backups from Windows 7? I believe they aredone with images that I do not know about. I tried and when I wantedto restore some part of it, I was told that you cannot restore only apart of it, rather you have to restore the full previous image. Now,wouldn't this overwrite all my newer information?I am a pensioner, so these technologies are getting a bit beyond me.But what I would like to do is back up an image of Windows 7 and mycontent, restore when I need to when things go wrong, and be on my way.Is there such a thing? I need something that is user-friendly andeffective -- whether it is paid or not.

I managed to do a drive image that also included my storage drive on an internal 1TB SATA drive. This, however, was the only one I was able to do. When I tried to run backup a second time, it would start, but then completely hang with only the occasional HD light blink. I stopped the backup, but it never said the back up stopped. I then tried to shut down and it got as far as saying it was shutting down, but never actually did. I had to power down. I tried a second time and the results were the same. Not even an entry in log files.

I have a few quick questions regarding System Images...but first, let me give you a little background.
My HP Pavilion dm-4 has a bum hinge, so I'm sending it to HP for them to fix it. They told me that they typically test the computer before sending it back, and thus also perform a complete system recovery (to go back to factory settings). Obviously, they want me to backup my data.
So. It's question time:
1) Can I restore a "System Image" to get my computer back to its current state upon receiving my laptop back from HP? (is a system image just a duplicate of the hard drive?)
2) Are all hard drives capable of creating a System Image, or just some?
3a) Are there any Hard drives you guys recommend?
3b) My C: (local disk) capacity is 441GB (303GB Free) and my D: (RECOVERY) is 23.5GB (3.43GB Free). Does that mean I have to buy a Hard drive that is at least 465GB...or could I get one that's just 160-ish GB

Is there a canonical way to make incremental backups that permit a full restoration from a freshly-formatted disk?I made a single system image, then set up B&R to backup all the files on all drives weekly. I can see the weekly backup directories, but they seem to be full backups, not incrementals.I was able to restore from the system image, but I didn't see a way to restore the newer files. You can't do it from within Windows, since it complains as soon as you try to overwrite a system fil
