How To Fix Windows 7 On A SSD After Deleting Folders Off Separate Hd

Nov 20, 2012

I foolishly removed folders from my HDD which I mistaken for one I was cleaning up.For some reason there were windows folders on it even though my operating system is on a separate SSD.I did it in mini XP using hirens.I tried several ways to reinstall and recover the folders before restarting my pc to see if I had stuffed up.On restart it went into repair mode,I tried a few things, still no good. Two questions, 1 why is there OS folders on my HDD? 2 can i recover or do i reinstall?

Windows 7 Ultimate On An HP With The User Folders On A Separate Internal Drive?

Apr 27, 2011

I need some direction (or reassurance) about setting up a new Win 7 system using an older Win 7 user folder.I had Win 7 Ultimate on an HP with the user folders on a separate internal drive. The HP died; the drive with the user folders is intact.his user folder has almost 400 GB of data that we need to keep as is. (My wife's a video producer with several projects in work.)I bought a new Lenovo with Win 7 Home Premium. I set up user accounts (on the system drive) and then added the drive with the HP user accounts. I made the necessary registry changes to access the added drive for user folders. Upon booting, I checked the properties of my user folder on the drive I added and it reported 0 bytes!! I didn't want to risk losing that data so I shut it down. My original user folder still has everything I want and need.

I know the user folder has data for my applications. Is there data in the user folder specific for the computer I'm on? If so, what do I merge from the Lenovo user folder with my big user folder? If not, was the "0 byte report" a fluke? Also, would I be better off installing all my applications before incorporating this big user folder? I have not yet installed the Adobe software that will be using most of the data in the user folder.

Deleting Folders - Windows Program Files (x86)?

Aug 11, 2010

I have an old 7 installation that I'm having difficulties exterminating. I want to delete: Windows, Program Files, Program Files (x86). I am aware this is not advisable etc etc, but that advice is inapplicable here because the installation is now on a data disk. I've tried some command line stuff with "takeown" and tried giving full permissions, but it is remarkably stubborn. Everything I did partially worked, but ultimately failed to get the job done.

Renaming And Deleting Folders And Files?

Nov 22, 2009

What I describe below doesn't always happen but it does lots of times: Let's say I delete a folder, it will tell me that access is denied, a program is using it, to solve that, I have to open another folder, or click on an image, then go back to the folder I want to delete, and delete it.

Renaming (this is all over the network) here's what I do:
1. Open randomly named folder to check content.
2. Go back up one folder level to rename the folder according to content.
3. Error! Folder is in use by another program (not specified), please try again
4. Try opening another folder and then going back again to rename originally wanted folder... sometimes it works.
5. Wait 5-10 minutes before renaming.

I just tried to rename a folder without even going into the folder....Error!! "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."

Windows 7 ultimate x64.

Deleting And Editing Files And Folders On External Usb HD

Aug 28, 2011

I have a Windows 7 pc. My old one was running xp. I have a Seagate external HD that was hooked up to the old pc, and now to the new one.

When I access the external now and attempt to delete folders, or maybe add something to a text file and save, I'm basically told I can't.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the fact that most of these files and folders were created when I had my xp machine? Have tried to go into permissions and make changes, but don't really know which ones. Everything I try yields the same result...NO-CAN-DO BUDDY! This is my computer and these are my files.

Deleting Inbox Item Also Deletes Saved Email In Storage Folders

Jan 30, 2012

After moving an email to my 'saved stuff' folder within the Storage folder, I delete the original item within the Inbox. I find that the saved item has also vanished. This has happened over 6 times. I keep restoring the item by sending it to myself again from another source. I've been assuming that an item in the Inbox that is also in the Storage folder area would result in having two emails on my machine. Is this wrong? Is one a shortcut?

"Hassle-Free" Way Of Deleting "Protected" Files/Folders?

Apr 21, 2011

Ok, this is driving me crazy... I got a new computer with a new hard drive, installed windows 7 and all my apps. I wanted to use my old Hard drive as data/storage drive on my new computer so i just unplugged my drive from old computer and plug it in new computer.Now... the thing is, there are a bunch of thing on the older hard drive that i would like to DELETE. This older hard drive had a windows installation on it and because of that, a lot of folders are "protected" ( folders such has, windows, program files, and everything within them ) ... The only way i am able to delete files is to manually go into the file/folder property, then assign myself as the new owner, then go into permissions and enable all permissions to myself.

This works... but only for individual file or folders that dont have files/folder within them that require permissions... this means that to delete the entire "windows" folder it would take me FOR EVER as there are hundreds of iles/folders...I know that when you change the owner of a folder/file , there is an option called "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" but that doesnt help because although the ownership is changed, i still need to go and manually change the permissions folder by folder, sub-folder by sub-folder , sub-sub-subfolder by sub-sub-subfolder ( and it goes on pretty deep ) of eeeeverything to be able to delete them.

Installing Windows 7 On 2 Separate Drives?

May 19, 2010

I have 5 hard drives in my system and I have installed windows 7 x64 on 2 separate drives and done this within windows. However a few times it booted okay but then started hanging on the post where it states verifying DMI pool data. Subsequently I tried everything to repair as I thought that the MBR was probably corrupted.

I have installed windows separately now on each drive by disconnecting all drives except the one that I am installing and then shut that down, disconnected it and connected the next and installed a fresh copy there to.

I am concerned that windows will corrupt the MBR again when I connect the drives one by one. I am not overly optimistic about windows boot manager and its reliability.

Windows 7 - Use Administrator Account Or Keep It Separate?

Would some things be restricted completely, or would it just require a password instead of automatic? Also, if it is the case that I should be running in standard for security reasons, can I make a new account, switch that one to admin, and make this one standard without messing anything up? Installing Windows 7 And XP On Separate Drives

Nov 23, 2011

Ok I have Win XP on a ide drive (still use) I bought Windows 7 and installed on a seperate drive (sata) I also Have a 1TB Storage drive for media, files etc... (sata)

Now how do I do a dual boot with what operating system I want to start with Currently, I am disconnecting one of the drives from inside the case to use either Xp or 7.

As I know when using XP it says C Drive and the same for Windows 7 when Im using that...

Think it will crash or fail to install as they both say C Drive where the O.S. is.

Ok.I got it using Easy BCD..with no issues apart from a major one now!

I have 4 Sata connections on mobo
1-Data Drive for files / media (1TB)
2-Win 7 (320Gb)
3-DVDRW Drive
4-Blank
on iDE cable - is Win XP

Now upon startup where it asks wither I want 7 or XP I can open/eject the drive but when either OS Starts and is ready to use ...my drive sticks ...cant open screen freezes!

Tried in 4th Sata connection and also other drive and same thing happens!

Mobo specs are : MCP6P M2+
4GB Memory

Running OS X And Windows 7 On Separate HDs On Same Computer?

May 12, 2011

I have Windows 7 on a 30GB SSD, and a 2TB HD I keep most of my games and whatnot on. I want to learn Objective C programming and Cocoa Touch for developing Apps. But to the point, I need to run the SDK. I can't do that on Windows (I think) and buying a Mac just to learn programming is out of the question. I may be able to build a hackintosh, but I'd rather not. That being said, I want to know if I can create a Dual Boot system where Windows 7 is my main/default OS, and have a separate Hard drive for the OS x leopard. I've seen some tutorials stating on how to partition ONE drive. I don't want that. I want two separate drives. One only for OS X, and the other only for Windows 7. Is this possible? I'm willing to buy a 1 TB drive and get it going. Have Windows 7 and OSX. Want both on my PC without having to partition one drive. Want separate drives for each OS.

(2) Hard Drives Wanting Separate Windows 7 OS One On Each

I keep getting the "No Boot Device Available error" It sees the hard drive and the CD Rom when I try to click on either i get the No Boot Device Available Error. When both Hard drives are plugged in there is no problems windows boots fine. How can I get the second hard drive to install the CD Rom so I can have (2) separate OS systems on the two hard drives. This way I can keep both programs separate also leaving me with an additional OS in case the other fails. I plan to use the BIOS to switch to the other drive (boot order) when I wish to use the other software on occassion. I plan on backing up my files onto an external drive. So my question is as such, can I load Windows 7 onto a separate drive and switch the drive of which to boot from to achieve my goal?
