Cannot Download Applications / Error Message Cites 'folder Ownership'
Aug 12, 2012
I cannot download any applications from any website. When I click on a website's "download" button, I immediately get a message box which says" "C:Users[my name]AppDataLocalTemp[for example]wfxiIAci.exe.part" could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location".When I checked ownership, "Users" was "Administrators"; "my name" was either "System" or "my name"; "AppData" was "System"; "Temp" was probably "System".I followed the instructions on a Microsoft "technet" webpage to change the ownership of the tree "C:Users [my name]AppDataLocalTemp" to "Administrators". This did not allow the downloads or change the message. [code]

I'm trying to delete a corrupted folder - I was copying a data folder when my computer crashed, and now that folder is corrupted. I am trying to delete the folder (and start over) but it won't let me, it keeps giving me an error message "0x80070570" tells me the file is corrupted and won't let me delete it.

I have a problem when I click on a particular folder in my computer. (I don't have to open it, I only have to select it).I get an error message from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library saying, 'This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information'. The application (which I assume is Windows Explorer), has to restart. I have no problems selecting any other folders. The problem folder is on my external hard drive, which hasn't been connected for a couple of weeks. But I then found that the error occurred on that folder's copy on the internal drive. (The two drives are not synced - I had simply made a back-up copy about a month ago).

I supplied a friend a new PC with Windows 7 installed. I also supplied Acronis True Image Home 2010 for backup purposes. I wanted to test the backups so I took an image of the system (using Acronis) and saved it to my USB hard drive. I plugged it into my Windows 7 PC which I also run Acronis True Image 2010. I mounted the image which was successful. I want to access the "users" folder. So I tried taking ownership of the folder but it displays "you only have permission to view the current owner on..." I want to be able to access the users documents, photos etc to make sure I can recover files in case of a system crash

I have a folder with a saved webpage on it on a DVD that I am trying to copy to my computer, when I try it first tells me that I need to provide administrator permission to copy the file (I thought I was admin). Then when I click continue it says: "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from Everyone to make changes to this file"
And all I can to is keep hitting Retry. If I try to take ownership of the folder I run into another problem, when I right click the folder and go to properties, there is no security tab, just General, Sharing, and Customize. And if I uncheck the Read Only box, I get Access Denied!

Im in the process of spring cleaning my big stack of hard-drives, in preperation for doing a clean windows install onto my shiney new Kingston V100 SSD.I'm currently looking at one of my 2TB external archive drives, which used to be the system disk on my media-server but is now just an archive disk. Anyways, on that drive, I found a windows folder (no big shock for a system disk) and I figured that I don't need that, as I've previous migrated all the user files when I took it out of the old machine. So I went to delete it, and it told me that I needed permission from 'S-1-5-21-432763403-189175183-190391661- 1000' to delete the folder. From there, I went to the permissions tab, figuring that I'd just have to give myself the rights to get rid of it. No dice there, I couldn't change any permissions, or add or remove users. From there, I went over to the advanced tab, figuring that I could take ownership and from there get the rights I need.
'You do not have permission to read the contents of E:etc etc, do you want to replace permissions with permissions granting full control?' dialogue, so I hit yes, which brought up:'An error occurred while applying security information to E: Access is denied.' None of the ownership, nor permissions changed, so I still can't get rid of anything in the folder. So, what do I have to do to get rid of this thing? Sure its only 20gb on a 2tb disk, but its clutter and I want rid of it! There is a possibility that this was a botched install of windows, rather than a full one (i know it happened once, but I can't remember if it was this one or a different drive), which I guess might explain why the permissions are all hinky, but either way, I wanna know how to clean it out.

All this started when I just wanted to change the way the clock looked to a custom one.
I go to the Windows Sidebar folder to locate the Gadgets folder for the clocks, and I try to make backups of a few of the files in the clocks folder by moving some of them to a new folder I created on the desktop. I cannot move them, access denied. I try taking ownership of the folder, cannot do it, access denied. I try changing the permissions, cannot do it, the boxes you can tick are grayed out. Long story short, I tried backing out of all the folders, trying to take ownership and change permissions all the way back to the Program Files folder itself to no avail. It seems if it is a default Windows folder I cannot mess with it in anyway; this also seems to be the case with my McAfee folder, but something that is less of a risk to change, like my Zune folder, I can change around no problem.
Quick rundown, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate edition, this is my only account for the computer, and it is an admin account. I have tried using several different "Take Ownership" downloads, including the one suggested on this site, but it does not work for the Window folders. "Take Ownership" won't even show up if I right-click on the folder. I know the Take Ownership mod is installed correctly, because it will popup for something that is not a default folder, like my Zune folder. .

I am running windows 7 professional 64bit and I was wrongly advised to take ownership of my hard drive. I am not having any software issues per say, just most of my icons now are either blank or default windows icon. Everything opens on the correct programs and windows is running fine except it keeps trying to an update that will not apply when I shut down. I have searched the forums here and done the icon database thing etc., but now after much searching I have discovered that taking ownership somehow corrupted my install folder.
Its still there but obviously not complete because of the icon issue and I am led to believe that if I want to uninstall something I may encounter problems. I found a system restore explorer program ((link was taken out so the rest of my post made no sense.)) I tried to install it but it keeps saying it needs to be on the host hard drive to install even when I try and install on the default path. So, how do I undo the damage? Can I change permissions of the hard drive again? and if so what too? How do I retrieve my install folder prior to the mess up and put things right?

I tried to take ownership of ProgramData - a folder in my C drive - to install VMWare because it gave me a security error. Now I can't use Windows Search from the Start Menu, and I think I got an error somewhere related to ProgramData while I tried to fix itndexing is not running, according to the Indexing Options window. So I think I need to "un-take" ownership of the ProgramData folder. Is there a way to "untake" ownership of a folder?

I've been using TechTracker for years, but today I hit a wall with the VLC Player update from ver. 2.0.1 to ver. 2.0.2. I am using Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit system and have no problems with anything else. When the download from CNET ended, I got an error msg. saying the download failed. So, I opened up VLC Player, checked for updates, got the notice that a major update was available and downloaded it. When the download completed, VLC Player crashed and asked if I wanted to send in a crash report. I clicked on "Yes" and immediately got a new popup window saying that it failed to reach the FTP server.

Okay here's a problem I haven't experienced in any other Windows OS The problem simply is that whenever I receive an instant message via Yahoo, AIM, etc., the alert plays but, my Media Player pauses just for that second it takes for that alert to play & continues to play afterward This happens with both my system speakers & headphones. Is there a way to make it so that my audio doesn't pause?

I have the following system setup: 2TB drive divided into three partitions: C: 50GB - Windows 7 installation E: 1000GB - Applications (in a folder called 'Apps') and videos F: 950GB - Music and games
I bought a 120GB SSD and installed it yesterday, and the SSD is partitioned into one 30GB partition, and one 80GB ish partition
I migrated my Windows 7 installation from the hard drive onto the SSD using AOMEI Partition Assistant, which worked perfectly, and very quickly. I then told the BIOS to boot from the SSD, and it works fine.
I now want to move my applications (over 50) onto the SSD. Is it possible to copy the 'Apps' folder over to the second partition of my SSD, and get them to work somehow, or will I have to uninstall and reinstall all of them? (Which I'm not looking forward to, if so!)

I ended up getting infected with some stupid virus and had to ultimately restore to a previous saved instance of my OS.Since then my Owner/administrator account seems to have problems running applications and applying the appropriate permissions. Any apps that use the C:UsersOwnerAppData folder no longer have permission to save files to this location and I cant for the life of me figure out how to fix it.

I know there are a myriad of slave drive access issue posts on here. My thing is that I've managed to take ownership of my slave drive; formerly in a tower - now trying to access it thru my windows 7 laptop. Ive taken ownership of " my documents," but it doesn't seem like it took; I still have to take ownership of every folder in it individually when I go into it. Furthermore, when I going into my music or video folders - I get a "file not found" error when I try to open the files.

I have a toshiba laptop running windows 7 32bit and made some changes to folder ownership that has wrecked havoc on my machine. I am the only user for this machine and am listed at the administrator. The changes I made were under the "users" folder, and the folder that listed my name. I don't even recall why I was tinkering with it but made a change under file folder properties/security/ownership. Since that change, it has done many things, including removing files and folders from my desktop and computer that do not show up anymore at all. It has blocked me from the c: drive. aApop up upon start up stats microsoft visual runtime library error c:program files. and on and on.
I have done a system restore to prior when I made the changes to no avail. it does the restore, but does not change the folder ownership or issues I am having. I have tried to reset the folder under options to a previous setting but that has not worked and now has me blocked from even going into my c: all together.. saying access denied. I have had no luck under control panel fixing this and have done more harm than good. Is there an easy way to get back control of my computer and regain the files that are not showing up. I have been looking for a way, similar to system restore, to reverse the changes to file ownership and give me control of my computer again. I would think this would be easy since im the system admin but no luck so far.

Window 7 Ultimate 64bit, memory test did not indicate hardware failure, virus scan from live cd detected nothing.

I was unable to launch .exe applications that relied on the MSI installer. The solution was to go to services and start the 'windows installer service'...doing this fixed some of the issues but apparently not all of them. I still can't run Fireworks or AvastUI.exe and other apps such as Upgrade Advisor. Heck, I can't even run certain windows updates. I have a HP desktop running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. I know for a fact that there are no mal/ad/spyware on my computer.
I have ran Trojan Remover and removed all the junk that I'm sure caused the problem in the first place. Here are some windows provided solutions I have tried: I have ran all MS 'Fix-It' apps, uninstalled reinstalled my apps, went to command line ran 'msiexec /regserver'. I know windows installer is installed but its corrupted for sure. My last resort is to wipe out the OS and reinstall it.

"Recycle Bin"
<!> The RecycleBin on C: is corrupted. Do you want to empty Recycle Bin for this drive?
If I say "Yes"
"Folder Access Denied"
<!> You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder.
It show the name of some hieroglyphics w/ "Date created: 4/3/2011..." -"Continue"- -"Skip"- -"Cancel"-
If I continue, it changes -"Continue"- to -"TryAgain"-
I notice that in the note it says "You require permission from <<my computersubfolder>> to make changes to this folder."
But I already have permission: I'm logged in as that person. I change to name to "corrupted" and tried to delete but won't work...

Also, another error message said that Skype couldn't create the folder: "C:programdatamicrosoftwindowsstart menuprogramsskype?
