This is on one of my computers running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. It's only started happening recently (past 2 days), whenever I try to open Mozilla Firefox I get "Microsoft(C) Register Server has stopped working". The details show
that the event name is "BEX",
app name is "regsvr32.exe",
module name is "msvcr100.dll",
exception offset is "8a3f6",
exception code is c0000417.
I've tried turning off DEP for regsvr32.exe but still no change. Internet Explorer doesn't work either, when I try to open it nothing happens.

I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to correct a persistent Event ID 10016 error that keeps showing up in Event Viewer.
I've actually found a couple of guides on how to fix this...change the launch permissions for the app that's causing the problem (IPbusEnum) but when I try to change the launch permissions using dcomcnfg none of the options on the properties/securities tab are available (grayed out).
My user has administrator permissions, I've tried launching dcomcnfg.exe by right click/click on "run as administrator" but no go.
Here's the text of the error message:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}
and APPID
{344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B}
to the user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
The CLSID and APPID resolve to a service run under svchost (IPBusEnum). Would appreciate any pointers/hints on how to resolve this error.

problem with self-registration of my dll.The dll fails with an error - "The following files did not self-register or unregister ---- Access is Denied". I am the administrator of the machine.I have turned off the UAC. I have registry rights too.The dll has been developed by us and it is working fine in XP. The installation package has been build using InstallShield_7.01 on a Windows 7 machine.The software has been working fine on Windows XP without any issue for years now but on Windows 7 it is having problem with registration of the dll components.Is it an issue of some protected registry keys of windows 7 on which i might not have permission.If so how to access those registry. On manually registering the dll using the regsvr32, we are able to register the dll and the software works fine.I want to know how can i correct this error without manually using the regsvr32.

I have some new Windows 7 machines on my domain. I have an older program that's installed and it needs to allow users to write and excute files on the c: drive (root). I know this is not a good thing but it's just they way they wrote it. How can I accomplish this? I've tried a number of things already like disabling UAC and LUA in the registry. That didn't work.

My computer crashed a few months ago due to a brown out and, as a result, windows 7 ultimate had to be reinstalled from a boot disk. Once it was re-installed, We put my serial number in and it worked fine (just as it had before). My integrated graphics on my motherboard went out so when i got my GPU up and going, my computer gave me this error and will not let me put in my serial. At the bottom of my screen It displays hat this copy of windows is nott genuine, even though i know it is. Each time I repeat the process i receive the same error code. I don't quite understand what I am reading in the other forums. I just want to get this computer running.

This morning when I went to run on my windows 7 32-bit installed PC, I was greeted by an error message saying "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". This is odd because last night it was working perfectly, with no problems. I've tried several solutions, like using the repair CD 3 times, to no avail, as well as writing a new mbr through Linux, using testdisk. I also know the whole hard disk isn't compromised since my Linux dual boot is still working with no problems from its partition.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 64bit. After loading windows 7 setup from my dvd drive I get the error "Required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." From doing a lot of research, it seems this error has nothing to do with my DVD drive but has to do with the SATA Controller Driver. So I try to load the 64bit drivers for the SATA controller and it finds them okay but when i try to install, it says something like "no new devices found". The SATA Driver(s) are the only it ever finds, except for the time I enabled Raid... Then those drivers showed up as well but with the exact same results.
From another forum I was directed to this microsoft page: [URL] and the resolution says: "To workaround this issue, disable AHCI mode for your disk controller in the system BIOS. Typically the controller has to be changed from AHCI mode to "IDE" or "ATA" mode. "
My motherboard is an Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard. However, I can not find anyway to change the setting from AHCI mode to IDE or ATA. As far as I can tell, nothing in my bios allows me to change that setting... or at best it's unapparent.

My Canon MF3240 laser printer is causing a timeout delay in Windows 7, when completing the loading of the desktop when booting (cold or warm). Long Explanation: When starting the computer, Windows will load normally to the desktop with near complete functionality. But there is a delay of 60 seconds while something tries to initialize or load. During this delay the blue spinning circle ("Working") can be seen over the Network icon in the systray, and over the Currency & Weather gadgets, and in Windows Explorer at the major headings.While the "Working" icon is showing I can open the browser and I have internet access. But I can't open task manager or use Windows Explorer until "Working" is done. The condition was first noticed after I uninstalled my old Canon MP780 printer and replaced it with an Epson Artisan 810. The Canon MF3240 was already installed before this change. I always suspected the Epson printer had corrupted something. This weekend I finally got around to removing all the printers, cleaning up, and reinstalling the printers. I reinstalled the Epson first (using correct W7x64 drivers) and all was good. Windows boots right up onto the desktop and everything is connected - no delays. Then I reinstalled the MF3240. Bang - right off - the delay condition.Now, if I unplug the USB cable for the MF3240 and boot (cold or warm) the delay goes away. What do you think is going on here? More Info: The original installation of the MF3240 was done when I first installed Windows 7. I was new to Windows 7 and there was some thrashing about to get the printer set up, I recall. I finally got it working by manually installing the drivers. These were XP-2000 drivers, best I can tell.
The driver I just installed for the MF3240 is MF3200_MFDrivers_Win_x64_us_EN_7 . I got these drivers from the Canon website for my printer, but I can't remember exactly when, but it was a while ago. I never installed these drivers before. Today, on that website, the only Windows 7 driver available is MF3200_MFDrivers_Win_x32_us_EN_7.exe ". Actually, that is the only driver for all Windows OS's. Also, the downloads above do not contain an installer package, only the .inf's and .cab's. If I knew then what I know now, I would plug in the printer, Windows would not find a driver, I will browse to the folder with the drivers, and the x64 drivers are installed. On the reinstall Windows found drivers and installed them automatically when I plugged the printer in. I had to go to the printer's properties and update the drivers to the x64 version. However, the delay condition happens in either version of the driver that I had installed.

I am experiencing issues with explorer.exe (I found many reports on the web on this), not showing drives or control panel icons, or stop responding (win 7 32 bit Ult.) I set to open a separate process to explore windows and I got the chance to look for a better file manager and got Directory Opus and set it as the default file manager. (I use a Dell Precision notebook with certified hardware).
The explorer is still used for some windows, mainly control panel and device and printers. If the process stands there for a while, at some time, it will start to create issues. With a new 2nd explorer.exe is quite sure it will work. Checking the task manager I see that the 2nd explorer.exe waits for about 45 s to exit after the last windows close. The overall impact is quite reduced as I do not use explorer to browse files, but I would know if there is a place where I could set a shorter delay to close explorer.exe after the latest window closes.

i performed multiple googles. but for the life of me i can not find the regedit for the value that controls the timeout for programs that "appear" to be unresponsive. the exact problem.is that when a game is loading a map or something that like midway the games window title bar displays the Not Responding. and if you click it dulls out and window and brings up that prompt to end the program or wait for it to respond.
i know there is a regkey for a value somewhere that tells w/e windows uses to classify a program as not responsive in milliseconds. or some odd measure of time.
i just need the regkey for the timeout value. god i hope someone knows what i am talking about.

When attempting to install Windows 7 on my computer (it currently has Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 installed, and has no CD/DVD drive), I get the following error; Quote:A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.I am installing it via a USB stick (copied the install files from my Windows 7 disk, due to the fact there is no CD/DVD drive). I've tried the common Internet solutions such as re-insert the USB stick, and try another USB port, none of the aforesaid have worked.

Okay, so this just happened out of nowhere. Nothing seems to have led up to this -- the system booted and shut down successfully, and no software updates or installs were done during the period of time it was on when it was last working. I've attempted many things, but none seem to work. /ScanOs reports no OS detected, while startup repair said the OS was booted successfully. bcdedit also shows no directories linked to "unknown". CHKDSK reports no bad sectors, so such can be discarded. This happens every time I attempt to boot to Windows 7 (Home Edition, x64). I have a copy of Fedora 17 set to dualboot with it

I have Dell Inspiron N5010. I was using windows 7 home basic 32 bit os. I wanted to change it to windows 7 ultimate. So I have inserted windows 7 Installation disk into CD drive. Then I went to through the installation and I chose the Custom as the installation type.When the partition page appeared, I have formatted all the disks including C which contains windows files. Then I got 298 GB unallocated space. Then I split them in to 4 partitions. Then I have selected one partition to install the windows. Then installation started .
Copying windows files succeeded. Expanding Windows files(0%) is still be like that for 20 minutes. Then I got the error message like: "Windows cannot install required files. Error code 0x80070017". And I thought it would be the installation disk problem. But it works fine in other systems. I tried several disks. No use. Also I got another problem. When system boots I tried to enter into BIOS using F2 and F12 which was mentioned in screen. But it did not enter into the BIOS, Instead it goes to the installation.
