Does anyone know WHY that works? Is installation unable to handle more than 2gigs (ie like 32bit addressing)?
I purchased the Home Premium version of Windows 7 from TigerDirect.com; I don't know enough to download the installation! I have tried everything I know (which admittedly is next to nothing) and keep getting the above error message when installation reaches the part where it's unpacking/expanding the files. I'm upgrading from Vista, uninstalled all the recommended programs to be removed before installing Windows 7 and I still keep getting that error message.

I have set up the two 500GB HDDs in a RAID-0 (the install can see the drive, so I do not think that is the problem). I purchased an upgrade version on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit through a cheaper-than-dirt college program (only $30. And yes, it is legitimate.) This gave me an ISO image which I burned to a DVD.
I am trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 as the first and only OS on my new system. For whatever reason, when I try to do the install, I get a 80070570 error and the install fails (at around 5% into the "Expanding WindowsFiles" stage). I assumed, with the aid of some other forum topics, that this was likely due to a bad DVD burn... so I made a bootable Flash drive and tried that... same thing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI"m trying to make a system image of my laptop hard drive onto my new 1 TB Seagate internal HD using a Rocketfish case. Some time after it starts doing a data transfer, I get a "the backup failed" red bar. I've read online things about having to delete hidden system partitions, but it's all fuzzy and I'm not about to start deleting things without knowing what I'm doing.
This move is necessary for me, since my existing laptop HD is beginning to fail and I need to move its contents asap. I did run a system check on my laptop and it found no errors.
I cannot back up my computer on either of two external hard drives. In both cases I get an error code 0x81000031. I use windows 7, 32-bit and do not think I have Bitlocker on my machine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI install Windows XP to external USB HDD and Windows 7 to other USB HDD. I have been using boot from ext. USB HDD for years because internal HDD is too small at that time and I keep it that way until recently I got problem.
I change from Dell620 to HP8560 and immediately it cannot boot from WinXP on USB. The only message is "A disk read error occured. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart". I try to install again without any error during the installation process, but same error once it boot from ext USB HDD. I still can boot Windows 7 on other ext. USB HDD. I upgrade it to Win8 Release Preview and work smoothly. When Win8 RP expired, I keep using it without upgrade because I usually use it for less than 2 hours. Suddenly it cannot boot again like WinXP on other USB HDD. "A disk read error occured." I cannot find anything wrong with USB HDD. I can still access all files on USB HDD from any system. I just cannot boot from it.
How can I know if this is hardware defect or recently Windows apply patch/update that make it cannot boot from USB anymore ?
I am trying to wipe my current XP installation clean and move on to Windows 7.
I first tried to install the setup.exe (Custom install option of course) from within the XP OS, but soon discovered you cannot do that and wipe out my only partition on C: at the same time.
I don't have a DVD-RW drive to write a boot disk, so instead I am trying to install through my external hard drive. I meticulously followed this tutorial from PC World yet when I instruct the PC in BIOS to boot from the external hard drive, I keep getting an "invalid system disk, press any key" error when the computer boots and looks for the setup files. This is despite the fact that setup seems to work perfectly from within the XP OS.

Can anyone please offer me any helpful advice to get the external hard drive setup to work or help me find a way to install 7 from within XP?
Anyone know exactly why I keep getting the "invalid disk" error each time when I try to boot from my external hard drive? As mentioned in the PC World tutorial, I marked the external hard drive as an active partition and the setup files seem to work fine from within XP. If it helps, in the external hard drive root folder is both the Windows 7 ISO and all the files contained (which I extracted using PowerISO).
This morning while i was watching a movie from my Toshiba 500GB external hard drive, there was a windows update going. Because of the lagging due to the update and all, I restarted it after the update is done while my ext. HD is still connected to the computer.
After restarting, somehow I can't seem to access my ext. HD even though the HD is detected. The HD somehow became a "Local Disk K:" and everytime i try clicking it a pop-up telling me that "K is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect".
I googled the problem and found one solution that told me to run a CHKDSK on the command prompt. I ran a "chkdsk /r K:" but then got stuck on the "stage 3 of 5" where the chkdsk is verifying Usn journal. This has been going on for 5 hours and the cursors still blinking.
I can access my HD again? Does the verifying Usn journal really do take this long?
I bought 2 new 3Tb Seagate Expansion drives model STAY3000300.I tried to "Create a system image" and both 3Tb drives were presented as possible destination discs. I selected one of them and after a couple of messages about preparing and starting the following message was displayed. (same message on the other 3Tb drive as well)The backup failedBIG RED BAROne of the backup files could not be created.(0x8078002A)Additional Information:The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error, (0x8007045D)The system is Windows 7 64bit and bang up to date with Windows update. The system disc is a OCZ Agility 3 120Gb SSD.Another strange thing is I have been doing backups to another external disc for many months - a 1Tb Iomega portable external.The MAIN BU file is about 26Gb and, yes, all my discs are formated as NTFS so it is not a file size issue.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst I want to say that the drive works without problems at the correct speed. The problems come upon disconnect. I also want to to stress that USB 2.0 discs are working flawlessly. If I use safe eject and the look in the device manager I get an error 47 saying that it has been shut down but not disconnected, it also says I can rectify it by disconnecting and reconnecting but this does not work. If I do so the drive will not be recognized. The enclosure has a power switch. After a safe eject I have tried both pulling the USB cable while power is still on and also going the other way by first shutting the power down. In both cases the error 47 shows in device manager. When this happens the CPU load goes up to about 20% and stays that way when it before was around 0 at idle. If I reboot the drive reconnects and I have no problem with it unless I try to safely eject it again.

The tech who installed the computer said I should be fine to back-up to my Phillips 1 GB external hard-drive using the back-up facility provided with Windows 7 HP. I soon realised after my first failed attempt that my hard-disk space precluded me from backing up a system image, so I configured the back-up facility not to include one- but still the back-ups failed. (D) HP- Recovery (1.45 GB free of 11.9 GB)
(G)'Elements' external HD- 1.20 MB of 298 GB (Basically this is an old back-up of my C Drive to an External HD, the capacity of which soon made it woefully inadequate for my back-up needs!)

I am getting 2 error messages. chronically I get filedeviceHarddisc volume 3$Mft. like every 10 minutes. The other is E:vlc-1.0.5-win32exe. I reinstalled the vlc program and haven't seen that error message for awhile. I checked the hard drive with seagate and it is functioning properly.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. After 20 failed attempts to install windows 7 (it kept freezing at the completing installation part) it worked after i disconnected the new graphics card and one of the hard drives. Now, however, i keep on getting periodic blue screens with the following error messages : Memory Management, and PFN_List Corrupt. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said that the memory is fine. when i click format a 150 gb partition space in disk management option i recieved the following message "An unexpected error has occurred. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error. Close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer". and the drive does not appear like other drives in MY Computer?

So anyway. Some time ago SP1 launched for Windows 7. I installed but it but something went it wrong and it didn't install correcly and then i was forced to use System restore. Everything worked and i haven't used SP1 because i don't want to risk screwing up my computer before some important things, i got plenty of time later for that . The problem is after the system restore every time Vegas launches i get a error : Sony Vegas pro 10 an error occurred starting Vegas Pro Error 0x80070002 (message missing).

When I plug one into any of my three USB ports, it does not auto run, nor is it displayed if I click "computer" in the start menu. If I go to "my devices" however the HDD is there, I just can't access it. how to see it in "computer". This occurs regardless of which HDD I connect (I have tried three which all work on other laptops) and this has only just started happening, it was fine two weeks ago.
Incidentally I also have two pen drives which both work fine, are displayed ok and autorun works.
I would like to duel boot windows 7 and snow leopard + more in the future but I just want windows on my laptops hard drive. So What i'm asking is if I can partition my external hard drive to use around 100gb as mac and then the rest as storage? And how I would go about doing this?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a toshibio satelite model # psc16c02q00m, I've tried to reformat my computer, i have the back up Disk and when i started my computer i press F12 to get the boot bios where i made it boot from disk putting my back up cd#1 into there. it was working fine till i put in disk three, from there i got a F3-F200-002 Error said an error has occurred please press OK to turn off the computer. and that is the only option. ive tried repeating the process but now all i get to is this screen even when i try to but off the hard drive im assuming my windows has been cleaned.

Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.The error is;Error opening files for writing?
What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Windows 7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

All goes well, it installs everything, but as it finished I get this error: I have tried redownloading, using other installers and updating my graphics drivers. Nothing will work. View 14 Replies View RelatedThere are times when it is not being recognized by Windows 7(pro). It has three interface options (fire wire, esata, and USB). I have tried all three at one time or another, finally settling on the eSATA interface. When it IS recognized, it runs smoothly, with no hiccups. But when I try to shut down the PC, sometimes it hangs up on the shut down screen for a long time (more than 15 minutes at times) until I actually press the on/off button on the My Book. When I do this, my PC immediately shuts down, but then, if I start up my PC, Windows does not see it again. I then have to power the My Book back on, then power up the PC and hope that it is recognized again. It�s not a big issue, because it is not frequently used, except for storing back-ups. It�s just something that is a nuisance. I�m not even sure that it is a Windows problem, because sometimes it is not detected in BIOS. why it is intermittently being detected and why it is hindering the shut-down process?
