Device Could Perform Faster Message
Oct 8, 2012
I keep receiving a pop-up with the above message concerning my USB ports..when nothing is connected. From reading around I suspect the problem may be a stray driver from some software package but how do I detect which? I can see at least one in Device Manager relating to a programme I've deleted in the past. Another is for Virtual WiFi (I had difficulties with the MiniPort Adapter at one stage) but I gather that will be coming into use at some point? Bit of a novice, can someone reassure me how to detect the problem and fix it?

I have an Acer Aspire 5542-5462 laptop (◦CPU/Ram: 2.2 GHz / 3838 MB) w/ Windows 7 and the product details indicates I have four 2.0 USB ports (2 on the right side, 2 on the left). Today I connected my 1TB external "SimpleDrive" hard drive in order to do a backup which I'd done previously but my last one was afew months ago and this time got the same "This Device Can Perform Faster - Your USB Mass Storage Device can perform faster if plugged into a hi-speed port" message as others have. This is the first time I've received this message.Below that is a window with the heading "The hubs shown in BOLD type have free ports that can support the HI-SPEED USB device." and in the window it shows 2 separate "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and under each it shows a sub-heading "USB Root Hub #6 ports# in BOLD TYPE. Under the 1st USB Root Hub it reflects all 6 as being "Unused Port" and under the 2nd USB Root Hub it reflects all but the 5th of 6 as being "Unused Port" and the 5th as "USB Composite Device".I went online to find out about the USB "This Device Can Perform Faster" message and what it meant, along with solutions. I've tried the following:
-Went into the "Device Manager" window and the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" sub-menu which reflects, in order, 2 "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller", 4 "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller", 2 "USB Composite Device", 1 "USB Mass Storage Device" and finally 6 "USB Root Hub".Per online instructions I right-clicked on each one and used the "Update Driver Software" #via a "Search online for updates" option# and received a "The best driver software for your device is already installed; Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date" for each and every one.
-Secondly per online suggestions I checked each USB Root Hub and all reflected as running at "full-speed" instead of the optimum "hi-speed" #which was indicated as to what should be showing if using a true 2.0 USB port#.So basically what I'm asking is if I have the current drivers already installed and my laptop's 4 USB ports are all supposed to support 2.0, then why aren't those USB Root Hubs running at HI-SPEED instead of the slower full-speed? Is there something I've missed? Or is there nothing wrong at all?

Recently, I've started getting an error which says: "Your USB Composite Device can perform faster if it is plugged into a hi-speed port" "The hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support the HI-SPEED USB device"
It then lists two bolded options for a hi-speed ports: A USB Root Hub with 6 ports, and another with 4. This error occurs on both my Windows 7 equipped Dell XPS15 (which has 2 USB ports) and an older Dell laptop which runs Vista (3 USB ports)
This is shown after my external drive (a seagate model) disconnects from my computer, which usually ends poorly for me, since I typically run Photoshop off my drive.
I'm wondering if these errors are caused by a new USB splitter I bought. It has 4 ports, but the model year and quality of the thing are dubious at best; my webcam and wireless mouse are also typically attached to it, and the webcam disconnects at the same time as the external drive. The mouse still works though, so that's pretty mysterious.

After doing this I restarted my computer but kept getting the same message.

We recently had to purchase a new computer, it has Windows 7.No matter what I plug into the computer via usb - Nook Color, camera, flash drives, external hard drive, etc, I get the message "This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device and try again." Since is happening with every device I plug in, I'm guessing it is a Windows 7 problem. Is there a way to fix it? I've been just pulling the usb out but someone said I should shut down the computer first.

Whenever I use one of my USB ports, afterwards I get an error that lasts all the time that says USB device not recognized. I have gotten rid of it but then when I go back and use it again, that error pops up. The usb ports work, I use it to download pictures and other things, but I cannot get the error gone. Someone suggested I unplug the internet completely for a few minutes and it would reset itself, but that didn't work. I put the media card usb back into the port and went to where it says it is safe to remove hardware and then took it out, but that didn't work either.

I have recently built a new computer not so long ago. But starting today a Message of my "USB Device being unrecognizable" kept popping up.It is always my Razer DeathAdder mouse that dies in the process. I checked the Device Manager and under "Razer Device" It has the "Virtual HID Minidriver" with the computer and question mark icon at the bottom right of the computer icon. Does that mean it's the problem? This is the image of the message:
I ran AVG and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but nothing showed upHere is my Malware log:Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100 [URL] version: 6210Windows 6.1.7600Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.163853/29/2011 11:57:42 PMmbam-log-2011-03-29 (23-57-42).txtScan type: Full scan (C:\|)Objects scanned: 278550Time elapsed: 14 minute(s), 47 second(s)Memory Processes Infected: 0Memory Modules Infected: 0Registry Keys Infected: 0Registry Values Infected: 0Registry Data Items Infected: 0Folders Infected: 0Files Infected: 0Memory Processes Infected:(No malicious items detected)Memory Modules Infected:(No malicious items detected)Registry Keys Infected:(No malicious items detected)Registry Values Infected:(No malicious items detected)Registry Data Items Infected:(No malicious items detected)Folders Infected:(No malicious items detected)Files Infected:(No malicious items detected)A few has suggested to turn off the computer and disconnect all power for 30 mins and turning it back on. If I make slight changes to the mouse, like adding advance functions for my extra buttons on the mouse, the mouse will die and not work until I unplug and plug it back in. "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok"
I Ve been trying to install Windows 7 RC on my Sony Vaio VGN 123 E and i managed to get my DVD fully working (booting windows 7 installation and all), but the las issue im having installing Windows 7 is that eveyrtime i get into the Install now screen, and i click on install now, it goes and show me a screen with this message:
No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok.
That message gives me 3 buttons: ok, cancel and browse, neither of OK and CANCEL would let me through the install, and with browse i have tried to find those missing drivers but without succeed.
I have read almost every near installation post on this forum and googled that error with no further
FYI:Vista Home Premium already Installed on Laptop. DVD/RW rom is working perfect and window7 does boot perfectly then why the hell it needs drivers again? I do not have drivers for Cd/dvd rom.

I recently built a new rig and attempted to install Windows 7, yet when I attempted to install the software from the disk I received the message "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device". I have changed the boot order in bios (I have a Gigabyte Z77- D3H motherboard) but that has not helped, with it not booting from the drive with the disk in that I assigned.

We just upgraded our office desktop from Windows XP and Windows 7. We used to scan driver's license IDs into our accounting program on XP. It worked pretty smoothly. But now on Windows 7 (the same hardware, except the desktop itself) when someone tries to scan a document we get the following window (see attached) that says,"Which device do you want to use?"With only one scanner in the list. That is kind of stupid, isn't it... Plus this window doesn't just popup, it becomes hidden behind other windows and the only way to tell that it's there is by its flashing icon on the taskbar, which is very confusing for most of our office workers.how to make this window not show up and go directly into that scanner (like it used to work on XP)?

My father-in-laws new computer (2 weeks old) a Dell Inspiron running Wundows 7 cannot perform any task, even System Restore. When I attempt to open Firefox or any other program it defaults to 'Open With' (usually Adobe 9). He is NOT computer literate and I am sure he has inadvertently downloaded a virus, or perhaps the Trojan he had on his old computer was trasferred to the new one by way of the USB for his wireless mouse.

I know how to perform a System Image, but now can't do so. I am using a Seagate Expansion External hard drive. Somewhere along the line there was a glitch and a red X (disconned) appeared on the drive icon in back up. I tried the same drive in an identical Windows 7 computer. Now I have red X's on both computers. The drive is fine, wiped and formatted, and the computer recognizes it. Still the red X on both computers. I can't get it off. The "start back up" tab is grayed out.

I just got two new harddrives for my birthday - one for my desktop, and one for my laptop. The desktop drive is 3 TB, which Windows won't let me use the entirety of...this is sort of a separate issue and not what brings me here, because I figure I can get around this by using another drive for the operating system and just use the 3 TB drive for storage. The drive I want to do this with is the 250 GB drive currently in my laptop, which will be replaced with the other new drive I got for it, 500 GB.
My plan is to make a backup of all the data on my 250 GB laptop drive to the 3 TB (backing up from my laptop to my desktop, connected by the homegroup). Then I'll put the 500 GB into my laptop, copy everything back to it, and use the 250 GB as the second drive in my desktop. *deep breath* it's tedious, but the best solution I came up with to make the migration possible.

Is there any way to perform multiple incremental backups for multiple drives with the Windows Backup utility? The reason I ask is because my experience with the Backup utility only allows me to schedule one type of backup. My issue is that I have six hard drives in my tower and the total disk space across them is more than any disk space that most external hard drives have. Having that said, I don't have a way to incrementally backup all of my drives. Is there any third party software out there that allows me to allow me to perform multiple incremental backups for my system? Can I do this with the Windows Backup utility a different way? The built-in program does a great job but it's limited with what I want to do.

I've got an ASUS K50IJ notebook, and lately, when I try to Save, Save As or Browse files on my computer, it freezes. This doesn't happen all the time; it's pretty unpredictable. In fact, the problem disappeared for a whole week before showing up again today.
The nature of each crash tends to vary. Sometimes the whole system locks up, and I have to forcibly shut it down with the power button. Other times, the window that triggered the problem is the only thing that freezes. Furthermore, sometimes the computer will unfreeze after several minutes, while in other cases my only option is to restart.
