Connecting PS3 To Monitor?
Sep 1, 2011
I have an AOC 936swa LCD monitor and want to try and run my PS3 through it. The input into the monitor is via D-Sub and USB. I made the schoolboy error of thinking it was a DVI and buying an HDMI to DVI cable...face-to-palm moment there!
Is there an HDMI to D-Sub cable? I can't imagine the USB will be able to carry it. The output from from the PS3 is bog standard.

I recently purchased an HP Omni 120; it doesn't have a VGA port but plenty of USB ports, and I found a TRENDnet USB/VGA KVM cable and I attempted to attach it to my computer an external monitor, but an error message popped up saying that it doesn't recognize the driver.
I learned that KVM is hooking up multiple computers with the same keyboard and mouse, but I wanted to know if I could use this cable for simply extending my display onto a second monitor without purchasing a KVM switch -- is there a driver or alternate method that would work? Or is there recommendations for a good, cheap USB/VGA cord?

I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.
Here are my system specs:
Toshiba Satellite L75D
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon 6520G

I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.
I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.
In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.
When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.
I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"
I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.
Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.

This computer is running an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. It does support dual monitors...(I've had dual monitors active on this card before, but never on Windows 7.) But since installing windows 7, I can't even get it to detect the second monitor. I want to run the setup with the CRT as the primary monitor and the HD as the secondary.

I recently had an older HP Pavilion Media Center m7760n Desktop PC rebuilt. The old power supply fried the motherboard so I need to get a new power supply and motherboard. Here are my current specs.
Mainboard : Asus P5QPL-VM EPU
Chipset : Intel G41
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2133 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
Hard Disk : WDC (1000 GB)
[code]....
As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard. The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port. When first starting the computer, the 15" monitor was recognized as the primary monitor while the 22" was recognized as the secondary monitor. No problem. I simply went to the display settings and set the 22" to be the primary monitor and the 15" to be the secondary monitor. Unfortunately, this setting seems to reset as soon as I reboot the computer. The 15" is always set as the primary monitor on start up, forcing me to set the proper settings all over again. What's worse is that even after I have set the proper settings, they sometimes revert back when using Media Center or other programs. Worse yet, sometimes the monitors both go completely black ... as if the monitor settings were about to switch but got locked up some how.I'm assuming that perhaps the on board video has a primary port (VGA) and a secondary port (DVI) but even still, shouldn't Windows 7 be able to over-ride this and save these settings so that the monitor settings remain the same during startup and regular usage?

I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).
The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.

I have searched for 3 days trying to find a Broad Band Monitor to let me know when it drops and for how long, also how many times while I am at work, or just not on the PC.

I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem or a Dell problem. My last 2 laptops were Gateway and I never had this issue, but I'm finding that A LOT of people are having this issue and no one seems to be able to help. I click on "find album info" to update my music library and the window pops up, but not much else. The little globe in the top left corner spins for a few seconds and my hourglass shows up until I move my cursor, but that's it. Just a blank white page.My browser of choice is Chrome, but I'm sure IE is default for this task.
1. I've made sure [URL] is listed in my trusted zone in internet options.
2. I've turned off wmp in "turn on or off features," rebooted and turned it back on again.
3. I've made sure in wmp I allow internet to replace missing info by going to organize - options - library
4. I never have "work offline" checked - ever - but I checked just to make sure.
5. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm sure my firewall settings are okay.
This has been driving me crazy for weeks. I really miss my Gateway that ran Vista because the player was a lot better and I miss the advance tag editor. And my last Gateway ran Windows 7 but I never ran into this problem. I'm wondering if this is a Dell problem. I just got this about a month ago and the 1st thing I tried to do was install Chrome because I abhor IE. But IE wouldn't let me download Chrome. Finally I found the .exe file on my last pc and was able to install that way. Could these issues be related? Maybe it's IE9.Also, some people get a script error when they click "update album info," but I (and a few others) just get a blank window.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that I purchased in the USA, brought to the UK - had hard drive failure; which was replaced and then had Windows 7 OS installed (and now the laptop thinks it's a UK laptop too - ie: the @ symbol has moved - etc)... None of this has been a problem until recently when I moved back to the USA. I have a TV that I want to hook this laptop up to, so that we can view my video files on a bigger screen - but I've found that my laptop is displaying in PAL format - while the TV must have it in NTSC. I've been searching around and I cannot seem to find out where to change that over.... Should I put in an American DVD into the dvd player and switch regions?

I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 on it and I just purchased a VGA cord in order to use my 50 inch Samsung Plasma TV as a monitor. (My main reason for doing this was to watch videos from HBO GO on it) I was able to get the hook up right and it does work; however, what is happening is that every once in a while, the picture on the TV screen disappears and it shifts back to my laptop screen. This lasts for about two or three seconds, then it shifts back to the TV screen. This does not appear to be happening at regular intervals; sometimes it happens ten times in a few minutes, sometimes it goes several minutes without happening.

I did have my Windows 7 connected to my XP, but it didn't work with XP to 7 so I started fiddling with my XP and now I can't access my XP through 7.I don't know if this affects anything but my XP is connected through an ethernet cord because the wireless was unreliable, but my Win 7 is wireless. When I pull up network places on my XP, all I get is a broken link that says 'My Web Sites on MSN', but when I was looking for my 7 from XP, I found it under all MSN network places but it was under a browse box so when I closed out from the browse box, I didn't find it.

I have a Windows 7 workstation that people connect to remotely via LogMeIn.I recently decided to move it to my home LAN, because it has faster Internet than work LAN. My home LAN has many personal computers on it, with file and printer sharing enabled. Most of these shares are not password protected for convenience. So the problem is that this workstation is able to see and connect to personal computers. I do not want this. I've temporarily password protected as many shares as I could, but it's not a permanent solution because it's a big family, and there are many computers, and I probably missed some. Unfortunately I can't use that Windows 7 homegroup sharing feature because more than half of the computers are Linux or Macs or Windows XP.I've researched the ports used by Windows File sharing, and made an Access Control policy in my router to block IP and Port ranges specifically for this workstation, to try and prevent it from discovering my other computers, but it did not help. I suspect this network access policy only applies to IPs and Port ranges on the Internet, not on the LAN. (btw router is D-Link DGL-4300)I'm looking for some solution either by tweaking settings in the workstation to make it blind, or making some changes with the networking gear.

All my PCs and devices map drives to an XP machine with 12TB or storage. It's getting a bit dated and I have been looking at WHS 2011.
I will be testing to see if it will run the applications that XP does (Coldfusion, Firebird, OpenDNS updater etc). If they are OK I might be leaning towards actually moving towards WHS.
I have 6 x 2TB drives installed. I notice that every time WHS formats a drive it leaves 19mb free at the end. That's annoying but not a show stopper.
I would like to format the C: drive only then install WHS clean, leaving all of the other drives intact. Will that work? I dont have about 9TB free anywhere else to back up all that stuff, so a "suck it and see" approach might be rather disastrous.
I've also been looking around for some "lights-out" type software (Not manageengine central - it doesn't work, and has some major design flaws). Something that would download updates, and let me review them before approving them to be pushed out to the clients. I've been seaching to see if WHS supports that natively, but I guess either I can't find anything or it's not a feature of WHS...

I want to be able to use a Homegroup, I really like the idea of it, but I want to be able to access my Desktop PC like it was in the homegroup even though I'm on another network (such as school.)
Would creating a Virtual Private Networking (via Himachi) allow me to create a homegroup between the two computers?
Any suggestions?
