Computer Immediately Starts When Entering Sleep

Feb 12, 2012

This problem has started recently. Moreover, new software and drivers have not been installed. When I put my computer into sleep mode, it immediately restarts itself, and when it restarts, it produces the Windows Did Not Shut Down Properly error.

Computer Starting Up Immediately After Sleep Or Hibernate

Apr 6, 2009

When I sleep or hibernate my computer, within 10 seconds of it turning off, it turns back on again by itself. When it turns back on, there is no output on my monitor. I used remote desktop from another computer to see whether it was just the video that wasn't being reposted, but when I tried to connect, it couldn't find the computer. None of the keys work on my keyboard, including the sleep and power buttons.

I have an ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe motherboard, and an Intel 3.0 GHz processor. I'm also running the x64 version of Windows 7.

Any ideas how to stop it starting up autonomously ?

Computer Resuming Immediately From Sleep After SSD Install Attempt?

Sep 23, 2012

Windows 7 64-bit
ASUS P7P55D-E LX
Core i5-750

Just the other day, I bought a Samsung 830 SSD and tried to install it yesterday. There were several problems, including the SSD not showing up in disk management and Windows Explorer, but showing up in device manager, and showing up in the BIOS. The biggest problem, however, was learning that my motherboard could not do SATA 6 without halving my PCI-E x16 lane. Anyway, I decided to hold off on the SSD until my next build and I'm sending it back.

The issue now is that I cannot put my computer to sleep. When I do, it resumes within a second or so. I tried unplugging every device from it, including my Ethernet cable and all USB devices, and it still persists. I also changed power management to disallow my network card from waking my computer, and changed the suspend mode of my USB controller to disallow them to wake the computer as well.

While installing the SSD, I recall changing the SATA 6 Marvell controller from IDE to AHCI (two SATA 6 ports are controlled by Marvell (into which I plugged my SSD) and the others by JMicron). As of writing, the Marvell controller is back to IDE and has nothing plugged into it. I also installed a few SATA controller drivers while attempting to get SATA 6 speeds and trying to figure out why my SSD was not showing up in disk management (I could not even format it via a right-click and it had no drive letter).

My suspend mode is set to "Auto" in BIOS, same as it's always been. Perhaps this has nothing to do with my failed installation of the SSD. But it only began after I tried to install it.

Fails To Wake From Sleep?

Jan 8, 2012

Read most of the many threads on this subject. I have turned off Sleep using Control Panel, Editing the Registry, disabling hybrid computer as described in this forums tutorial. The Start/Sleep button is not grayed out and still shuts down the computer although the automatic timed sleep mode seems to be eliminated. Moving or clicking the mouse does not wake up the computer as originally. I have to remove the power cord for a few minutes and then press the power button. I think the computer then comes back up w/o the windows sign-on window as if awakening from Sleep. Windows 7 initializtion is very slow.

Problem with Sleep arose after installing an external drive enclosure with a sata hd and using the esata interface which did not work and caused loss of 2nd internal hard drive.I do not mind the automatic sleep mode if the computer would awaken properly.Forgot to mention the following: Even though the Sleep recovery does not work, the computer responds to Restart and turn on from power shut down normally in its usual quick fashion.

Windows Fails To Wake From Sleep Then Corrupts Boot?

Apr 24, 2011

I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 and I am having an issue where my computer goes into sleep mode, fails to wake from sleep, strangely resumes its state once I do a cold restart, and then after restarting again, refuses to boot.Computer goes to sleep based on the time set in the Balance Power options scheme. Fine. Often, computer wakes up perfectly fine from moving the mouse or pressing a key. Fine. Very occasionally however, upon waking up the computer, the lights, keyboard lights, fans and everything else except for the display comes on. I am forced to do a cold shutdown by pressing the reset button. Upon booting up, Windows displays "Restarting Windows" rather than "Starting Windows" and resumes its state when it went to sleep. Strange but OK. Everything seems to work normally. The problems come in when I then do a shutdown or restart after it has resumed from the cold shutdown. The computer shuts down perfectly fine but during the next boot, freezes right during the animation of the windows logo and immediately restarts the computer and launches into the DOS-looking prompt asking whether I want to do a Startup Repair because the computer failed to boot.

I have tried Startup Repair from HD and from the Windows disc and neither have done anything. I am usually forced to just reformat everything and start anew. This problem recently started occurring after I installed an Intel X-25m 120GB ssd and put the Windows partition on it. I'm not sure if that's related to the problem. Also, all of my power options are set to the Windows default.

My hardware is:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 factory 2.4Ghz
RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR2 4x1GB
HDD: Intel X25m SSD 120GB (Windows) + Seagate 400GB HDD (everything else)
Mobo: Intel DG965OT
Video: ATI HIS Radeon HD 5770

Scheduler Fails While Trying To Wake Windows From Sleep / Hibernation

May 2, 2012

I've got it to work flawlessly on my desktop, however on my laptop, a Dell D630, I can't seem to get it to work. I've created a task triggering on a specific time and running the operation '/c "exit"', which should just start a command prompt and close it again. I've set it to "run with highest privileges" and "wake the computer to run this task". However, it just doesn't boot as scheduled.

The history of the scheduler says nothing at the moment that the trigger is set to go off, but a minut later (probably when I manually boot) I get a "Task scheduler "{....}" instance of the task "Wakeup" due to a time trigger condition."

Keep Being Asked For Network Password

Oct 24, 2011

I have 4 computers (3PCs and 1Laptop) on a home network (not a homegroup). All are connected to the same workgroup. All share the same internet connection. Up until last week, all of them had absolutely no issue sharing files or using the printer. Now however, my laptop will not connect to one of the PCs and that's the PC that is connected to our printer. Both the laptop and the printerPC are running the same version of Win 7 (Home Premium). The problem is connecting from the laptop to the printerPC I keep being asked for a "network password." I have file and printer sharing enabled and password protection disabled. Firewall and anti-virus are off. The strangest part is that my printerPC can access my laptop without passwords yet my laptop cannot access my printerPC without one and I've never even set up a login/password for network sharing to begin with so I don't really understand why this is happening or what's causing this because as I said earlier this wasn't a problem up until a week ago.

PC Freezes Shortly Upon Startup?

Mar 10, 2012

Shortly after starting up and logging in, one or more programs freezes (usually Firefox or Skype), but eventually even the taskbar will freeze up. When I tried to launch Task Manager, it doesn't run, and when I try to shut down it doesn't work either. The only thing I can do is a hard reset via the power button, and then enter safe mode. I scanned my computer with Avast!, Microsoft Security Essentials and MalwareBytes. All of them came up negative I then posted my problem to Reddit, and some users suggested me to run ComboFix (I did not know it was such a powerful program, and they seemed reasonably experienced). I ran it, and it actually fixed my problem for a while. But now I'm back where I started. What's wrong with

Shortly Freezes And Comes Back

Oct 25, 2009

During my usage of Windows Seven, I have found one very annoying problem which is freezing. It doesn't freeze for more then 2 seconds, it freezes and then it goes back to normal instantly but it gets very annoying. Because sometimes the freezing stays for like 2 seconds and the sound totally freezes up also it does a peeping sound like its stuck....

Also I have been reaching about this problem before posting here.. they are saying that it my be cpus or memory and and I know that is not my problem because I recently updated my PC with a new graphic card. Before i did that it wasn't freezing..

I updated from a radeon X800 ATI to a HD 4770 which is clearly its better and before I switched graphic cards it worked fine and now its not right now Please I really need a fix for this issue.

BSOD When Attempting To Log In Or Shortly After Logging In

Jun 7, 2012

I built my first computer almost two weeks ago, and it worked just fine for a while, but now it repeatedly gives me a blue screen whenever I try to log in. Sometimes it happens after I type in my password and press enter, sometimes while I'm typing it, and sometimes when I just hover the mouse pointer over my user icon.

I attempted the System Health Report like the BSOD thread instructed, but that generates an error: The system cannot find the path specified.

Windows 7 Freezes Shortly After Startup?

Sep 26, 2012

I am assuming this is the best forum of this post.About two weeks ago, I was on the internet and my laptop froze, I forced shut and restarted the laptop, and was greeted with a black screen saying "Realtek Family Controller, Media test failure, check cable" Although I don't use an ethernet cable to use the internet (I use wireless), I plugged one in and windows started up normally. Fastforward to two days ago, I was watching a video offline and my laptop froze, plus made a loud noise. I forced a shut down, and restarted. But now I only have to turn the laptop on, and it just freezes for no reason. Loading Google Chrome, or just looking in my folders. Only way to use laptop is in Safe Mode!

Therefore I am using Safe Mode with networking to post this and using IE 8 aswell as Chrome makes it freeze even in Safe Mode. My Specs:AMD Athlon II P360 Dual core Processor 2.29GHzWindows 7 home PremiumRAM: 4.00GBFile System; NTFSapacity: 298 GB (Used 91.5 GB) I have also downloaded Malwarebytes and ran it, and there was no spyware/malware on my computer. I have also ran the Windows memory diagnostic, but when it says it will display, the results once it restarted, I get no results so I assume there was no problem.

Windows 7 Acting Weird Shortly After Start-up?

I start up my PC and minutes after loading the desktop it pretty much freezes. Before it freezes I can just open things like My Documents and stuff and seems to work perfectly fine. After it freezes, clicking anywhere on the taskbar results into some message pop-up that asks if I want to close Explorer (Ok / Cancel).Clicking anywhere else doesn't do anything. Anything with the keyboard stops working.I'm currently in safe-mode which works just fine. Tried the F8 thing to load Windows in previous working state twice, but has no effect.

Computer Fails So Start-up Sometimes?

Jan 3, 2012

Basically, my computer fails so start-up sometimes (My motherboard produces a long beeep sound. GPU not running at all, but the rest of the components seems to be running - eg. USB, Ethernet etc). Also, it will sometimes freeze while running some basic programs which are not really RAM or GPU demanding such as web browsers. Finally, BSOD whenever I'm running some graphically intensive games (which theoretically, my computer should be able to handle.I've ran memtest86 for each of my ram and there were no signs of any ram defunct. Therefore, I'm speculating that the problem is either the GPU, CPU or the Motherboard itself. However, I'm not sure which one should I change. I've attached my 3 dump files, all of which seems to point to different sources of error.[CODE]

Computer Fails To Boot Into Windows After Sp1 Installation

Change In Windows 7 Computer Performance - Programs Fails To Function

Dec 10, 2012

I have observed a significant change in my Windows 7 computer. This is not a hardware issue. I have not downloaded any files or programs lately which could have caused this difficulty. I have run NIS program, anti-spyware. and malware-bytes, to no avail. I cannot seem to run backup using Ease Us Todo Backup; program fails to function. It worked before. Windows Backup fails to give any indication that it is actually working.

It takes longer to start up. I have run "Start Up Repair" to no avail. It also takes longer to shut down (no updates are in progress). Certain programs such as the one to enable process of my digital camera photos, fail to work. There was no such problem in the past. When I attempt to use this program, a screen from uTorrent appears, even after I have removed uTorrent, and re-downloaded the camera software. I have tried "System Restore" to no avail.

Contrary to the instructions, I cannot choose my own 'restore point', but only from a list created by Windows. The standard Windows 7 repair programs have failed me. I have nowhere else to turn. I have considered a registry cleaner, but the advice on this program is mixed; half of the people say it worked for them, the other half say never screw with my registry. If I cannot even backup my files, I am screwed.

Computer Fails To Boot After Fresh Install Of Windows 7 Ultimate

Feb 13, 2012

Ok so after years of running XP, I finally got an external HDD to back all my crap on and Windows 7 Ultimate. I backed up all my stuff, ran the win7 DVD through start up, reformated my hard drive, installed windows 7.

It installed fine, rebooted a couple of times through the install, finishes, and logs me to the desktop. Its all working fine, I can use the net etc. I shut it down to restart it, and it doesn't start back up. It gets to the bios window where it decides to start off the dvd or hdd, just prior to where it should normally change to the 'windows is loading' screen, and just sits there, blinking and doing nothing.

I've done three installs, I took out the hard drive, reformated it with another computer, made sure it had a ntfs file system, everything, it's working fine. But every single time I install windows 7, It logs me into the desktop for the first time, I can do everything fine, but then if I Shutdown or restart, it hangs on the screen prior to windows loading. I can't even choose a boot option.

I've seen some ideas on other forums, pulling the power out, resetting the bios/cmos, changing boot sequence, unplugging all non-essential hardware.. nothing. It's like as soon as I install windows 7 my hard drive isn't there anymore.

Specs:
Abit AX78 - Latest BIOS version
AMD 9950 quad core 2.6
4GB DDR2-800
ATi HD 5870
Western Digital 500GB
