View 2 RepliesI'm encountering a very frustrating problem connecting to my office PC (which is Windows 7 Professional). No matter what client I use (Windows 7 built in remote desktop from a W7HP machine, Remote Desktop Client on Android, etc.) when I log on to the host machine it re-logs me on. Basically it seems to kill the previous log on session, logs it off, and then logs me in anew. This is really annoying. It closes all open apps and makes me reopen them. It takes much longer than a usual connection. I can't seem to find any reason for why this might happen, the only difference between this and the thousands of connections I've made over the years using RDP is that this is being done over our work VPN (A SonicWall VPN client). I don't see why that would make any difference but it's the only variable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been running Win7 64-bit for 2 years. My boot drive is an Intel SSD. Win7 used to load very quickly. It would come up with the Windows logo and quickly flick to the login screen. Boot Performance tracked in Event Viewer - Application and Services - Microsoft - Windows - Diagnostics Performance, perational would generally report 45 seconds or so. Recently, for no reason I can yet discern, that has jumped to 218 seconds. I have looked for 101 Event IDs (application boot performance), there are a few listed, but usually with very small footprints (degradation of 300 ms). Nothing which explains the 3 additional minutes. When the OS boot now, it comes up to the Windows splash screen, and as the 4 colours are coming together, it hangs. At first I thought there was something seriously wrong, so I restarted via the power switch, and ran Startup Repair. It ran, but boot was the same. After a few more power button restarts, thinking I had a very serious problem, I sat there stumped and..... it eventually booted! The 4 colours eventually started moving again, and the system booted. That is what I experience every time now. There is roughly a 3 min pause during the boot sequence, then it proceeds as normal.Things I have tried, Updated to latest Nvidia chipset and GPU drivers.Have almost nothing in Startup when Running MSConfig,Ran Intel's SSD tool. Reports everything A-OK. Made Boot Sequence "Hard Drive" only so it doesn't search for CD drive. Ran Windows Update to ensure all latest critical patches installed (for all I know, this caused it).

I've just done a fresh install and installed all updates and now it seems to take ages (around 5 minutes) to boot in to windows to a point where I can open a browser or program etc. Is this just because of all the updates, as before I applied them it was a much quicker process booting into windows? Anything I can do to speed things up a little?

Every time I plug it into a different computer, I need to take ownership of its contents before I can access the files in it.I don't move it around much so that's fine, but today I installed Windows 7 Professional (first time installing Win7 on my PC, still experienced with the OS) & have had trouble taking ownership. It works just fine, but most of the files & folders still have a lock icon on them, & I'm unable to actually open/run any files whatsoever.

There are 3 others that need the same information and documents at any given time. These 3 people have their laptops that are constantly switching wifi hotspots. They need to change information sometimes, and need access to all of it any time. The way its setup now is 1 person is on the main computer, but when one of the three need to access it, they remotely log in and take control. Only one person can access the computer at a time. How do I set it up so all four of these people can access and change the files at the same time if they want? The main computer is being used constantly, but someone always needs a document or file while the main person is working on it. So it slows production when someone logs in.

Now windows 7 gives a short BSOD after logo and computer restarts. Startup repair doesn't fix the problem, neither from my windows 7 usb or from laptop, I have tried it several times.
I don't have any system restore created. I don't have any system image either to restore to either.
I really don't want to do a clean install again and wanted to try to do a repair upgrade, the problem is I can't boot into windows to begin with, and this seems to be needed to do a repair upgrade. When I try to do it from the USB it says I need to boot into windows first.
Is there a way to start the repair upgrade without having to boot into windows?
When I press F8 I don't get the options of safe mode, probably because I set the "time to display list of os to 0". Since I can't boot into windows 7 I can't change this above 0. Is there a a way to set this time above 0 from command prompt from my windows 7 installation usb?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with my notebook. I recently decided to turn on the screensaver to "blank" after 10 minutes and set the power managemet to never turn off the display under either power condition. I would leave my computer for 10 minutes or so and then when I would come back, I was logged out. Yes, I mean logged out as in all open, running applications were closed, not just at the login screen. I searched the web and found many others with a similar problem. Most replies refer to the check box on the screensaver setup page that says "on resume, display logon screen." This is quite different though as even with that checked, the current user is not actually logged off and the running applications are not shutdown. I (and others with this problem) are actually being logged off. Incidentally, the box is not checked, and now the screensaver is diabled. Power management is set to never turn anything off, ever. I still have the problem. I then saw a post that said I needed to uncheck the "require password to logon" option in the user settings. Seemed odd since my computer worked as it should for the last 9 months with that option checked (by default), but I gave it a try. The system still logs me out. I then went back to the screensaver and re-enabled it with the "bubbles" but this time, I set the timeout to 9999 minutes, figuring that it would then take a week of idle time before it logged me out, if in fact that was the problem. Didn't work, still being logged out with applications running. I have searched all over the web, but can't find a solution.

Although, in the far recesses of my mind, I remember this happening to me a year ago, but don't remember how I solved it.The Inception screensaver was easy to install, and works just fine. The only issue is that when I move my mouse to turn the screensaver off, I see that I was logged out of MSN. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. Again, none of myother screensavers have this effect: only Inception does. It was downloaded from here:' Inceptionust Enter the Site, skip the trailer, click menu and choose downloads.
