I used Windows Disk Management and Partition Wizard and on one it takes a long time to format and on Partition Wizard, it stops at 90% complete and then just hangs there. May 2, 2012My IT shop recently rolled out several hundred new Dells with Windows 7. We've had minimal problems so far.
However, our HR and legal folks are bugging us to change the format of the LegalNotice screen at Win7 startup. All PCs are connected to shared network resources and they insist on the LegalNotice being activated, with an "appropriate use" message displayed and a click-through acknowledgement by the user.
In Win XP, this notice was displayed in a separate dialog box, with the message in a simple black-on-white textbox.
In Win7, the notice now comes up in the center of a blue graphic background, and is in a bluish font that is both smaller (in high screen resolutions, especially) and a harder-to-read typeface, which makes the notice virtually useless.
LegalNotice is controlled by a couple registry settings, but they only allow you to activate it, set the box caption, and set the box text. No other format control is available, e.g., font type, size, weight, textbox background/transparency, etc.
One thought we had was to imbed the notice in the background graphic, but that raised problems with centering and placement due to differing monitor resolution settings. Plus we haven't quite figured out how to replace the default graphic.

Dec 1, 2012I have a WD MyBook Essentials that I've had for some 4 years now. Every time I plug it into a different computer, I need to take ownership of its contents before I can access the files in it.I don't move it around much so that's fine, but today I installed Windows 7 Professional (first time installing Win7 on my PC, still experienced with the OS) & have had trouble taking ownership. It works just fine, but most of the files & folders still have a lock icon on them, & I'm unable to actually open/run any files whatsoever.

These 3 people have their laptops that are constantly switching wifi hotspots. They need to change information sometimes, and need access to all of it any time. The way its setup now is 1 person is on the main computer, but when one of the three need to access it, they remotely log in and take control. Only one person can access the computer at a time. How do I set it up so all four of these people can access and change the files at the same time if they want? The main computer is being used constantly, but someone always needs a document or file while the main person is working on it. So it slows production when someone logs in.

Jan 11, 2011I was stupid enough to manually delete my acronis files when I couldn't uninstall it the ordinary way.
Now windows 7 gives a short BSOD after logo and computer restarts. Startup repair doesn't fix the problem, neither from my windows 7 usb or from laptop, I have tried it several times.
I don't have any system restore created. I don't have any system image either to restore to either.
I really don't want to do a clean install again and wanted to try to do a repair upgrade, the problem is I can't boot into windows to begin with, and this seems to be needed to do a repair upgrade. When I try to do it from the USB it says I need to boot into windows first.
Is there a way to start the repair upgrade without having to boot into windows?
When I press F8 I don't get the options of safe mode, probably because I set the "time to display list of os to 0". Since I can't boot into windows 7 I can't change this above 0. Is there a a way to set this time above 0 from command prompt from my windows 7 installation usb?
