View 5 Replies View RelatedThere are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI sorted my desktop, and put the desktop shortcuts (Microsof Word, Excel, outlook etc...), onto task bar (next to start button) however I have come back to PC and they have all seemingly have converted to Microsoft word. When I open start menu, all my recent programs have again converted to word. When I have opened any of these a word document opens, a load of gobbildygook, as well as can not open in dos mode.I have managed to cercumnavigate word and excel, by opening one of my exixting files starting a new document and saving this to desktop, but can only do this with paint, word, and excel.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, I don't know why this happens....I have word documents saved on my computer on a few back up drives. I recently went to go into them and they are now .cts files.
I found that if I download and run Crazy Talk software, I can access them, well, from what I read on the internet. I am trying it out now.
My IT shop recently rolled out several hundred new Dells with Windows 7. We've had minimal problems so far.
However, our HR and legal folks are bugging us to change the format of the LegalNotice screen at Win7 startup. All PCs are connected to shared network resources and they insist on the LegalNotice being activated, with an "appropriate use" message displayed and a click-through acknowledgement by the user.
In Win XP, this notice was displayed in a separate dialog box, with the message in a simple black-on-white textbox.
In Win7, the notice now comes up in the center of a blue graphic background, and is in a bluish font that is both smaller (in high screen resolutions, especially) and a harder-to-read typeface, which makes the notice virtually useless.
LegalNotice is controlled by a couple registry settings, but they only allow you to activate it, set the box caption, and set the box text. No other format control is available, e.g., font type, size, weight, textbox background/transparency, etc.
One thought we had was to imbed the notice in the background graphic, but that raised problems with centering and placement due to differing monitor resolution settings. Plus we haven't quite figured out how to replace the default graphic.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start windows 7 there are three logon icons: last user, other user and fingerprint swipe icon. I want it to display a fourth icon for the two last users, or two fixed logon icons, because I use two accounts regularly.
This is from a laptop on our work's network, so it probably should not display all available users.
This little thing has been annoying me since Win 7 came out and finally figured I'd ask if there is some hack to change it.On my task bar I have the following icons...Internet explorer | Windows Explorer | Windows Media Player | Google Chrome | Paintshop Pro x2When none of these programs are in the open state everything is fine, however when I open up Internet Explorer, it changes the normal small icon into the full blown Internet Explorer taskbar icon right in it's place, which means my task bar will often look like a bunch of long I.E. taskbar open icons, then the small icons for Windows explorer, mediaplayer, chrome and psp, followed by a bunch of other program icons that are open programs. This looks sloppy and non intuitive to me.What I would like to do is to keep all the small icons (like they were in quickbar) on the left, and any open programs to open as new full size icons on the right of all the small icons. So that I don't have a bunch of larger open program icons, followed by all the closed small icons, followed by any other open program icons.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI use tags to keep things organized. I can edit and update the tags on Word 2003 files just fine. But when I try to edit and save them on the newer files I get the following error:I've checked ownership and permissions, they both appear to be set properly, and that gives a different error anyway.I've also noticed that the older Word 2003 files allow for a thumbnail icon of the document, but this doesn't work for 2007 even if the thumbnail box is checked. I can edit the document information inside Word of course, but that doesn't show up in Windows Explorer searches.
