Jan 24, 2009i normal run windows xp on my machine but currently trying out windows 7 but i have a small problem. ok so in xp i create a network bridge with my wireless card and ethernet so that i can connect my xbox 360 to the internet without buying the wireless adapter. now when i try to do this in windows 7 i get an error that says. To create a Network Bridge, you must select atleat two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing. im useing a lan connection and a high speed wireless connection isnt that all i need....and if it's because of intnert connection sharing how do i turn that off in windows

Jul 12, 2009Has anyone ever tried to change from XP to Vista, and create a new network connection to an FTP client? the "My Network" menu option has disapeared in both Vista and Win 7. The most logical choice therefore would be to look under Network for a menu option to do this. Nope.... Not there either.
I found out how to do it. It may be easy, but not if you cannot find it. Users should not have to search that hard to find an answer.
To help users, is there any plan to restore a menu option to do that under Networking?
How about putting Networking back under the Start Menu?

This is possible to do with operating systems such as ubuntu and it is very easy, however is it even possible with Windows 7? I tried this with Vista as well and failed.
Can anyone help. I am tired of going into the TCP IP settings and reconfiguring this everyday.
Create A Homegroup On JUST Hamachi Network
Mar 9, 2009I created a VPN using Hamachi, it's listed as a second connection, I set it as a "Home" connection.
Problem is, the computer I'm trying to connect to is both on my local, and Hamachi network.
I decided, OK I'll just create a Homegroup on my Hamachi network!
I went to create it, but it appears it created a Homegroup within both networks?
I'm really confused here, I want to create a Homegroup on JUST the Hamachi network right now, but when I go to create one, it's listed on both.
Will I still be able to use Homegroups with Hamachi even outside the local server, because it's a VPN?

Feb 26, 2012So I checked on my network, just recently, and I saw some strange names connected. I saw BOYKA, KYLO-PC, RADULOVIC-PC, and my computer. I was freaking out, so I went to the DHCP Reservation on my routers setup and checked the devices connected. It was just my devices. But I still changed the password, but I was kind of reassured of the fact that it was probably just a program that accesses the network. But I googled all the names and no kind of software came up that may use these names displayed on the network, nor anyone else having this problem. I am worried that a people are accessing my network. Also, no one around my house has any of those names.Also I cannot create a homegroup because the user KYLO already has one on the network.

Mar 28, 2011I have a hosted Linux server running CentOS 5 with Samba 3.4. Everything is setup and it is accessible via Linux machines by typing [URL] in a Firefox address bar. I am trying to set up a local network share on a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 computer. I have tried entering the IP address in 2 locations:1. Map Network drive. I select a drive letter and type in the ip \12.345.678.9 It asks for credentials and I enter the user info for the user I created on the Linux machine. It thinks a moment then pops back up asking for credentials. It doesn't say they are invalid, just never goes through.2. Connect to a website (under Map Network Drive). I type the IP [URL] and click connect and it pops up a dialog saying "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another".
I have tried creating a loopback adapter and trying to setup a connection via SSH using the guide found at [URL]. After completing the tutorial (substituting my server IP address for the destination address given) I try using the Run dialog as indicated and get a "Windows cannot connect to.." error and the diagnose connection button. One thing that may be causing problems there is that the loopback adapter is labeled as an unidentified network and thus stuck as a public connection, and I am unable to change it. Searching for solutions to that brings up things I can't access (no group policy editor on Home Premium) or results in no change (setting DHCP server, which I tried setting to my router).

File Sharing Across A Home Network - The Network Path Was Not Found"
Aug 9, 2011I'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same.All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines.On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.
Will Adding A 2nd Network Card Improve Local Network Transfer Speed
Jan 23, 2013This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.
Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.
The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.
Network Constantly Changing Between Unidentified Public Network And Home
Aug 30, 2012Home network with Wifi and ethernet. Using 3x Notebooks and 3x workstations. One of the workstations (W7 ultimate) keeps changing between Public and Home. When this happens, the internet connection dies. I cannot see other workstations either when on public network. Workstation using wifi. Does the same on cable. When it changes to Public, it disconnects from the internet and I cannot get to the router even though it has the workstation has an IP(DHCP or static). Default gateway and subnet is correct. TCP v4 is being used and nothing else is enabled.
Why is this happening?
- I have tried DHCP as well as Static addresses
- Reconfigured NIC(Netgear WG311T), uninstalled and reinstalled it.
- Removed Wifi connection and re-added it.
- Changed auth type, encryption type and keys to connection
Have I covered everything? The only thing different is that I installed a new router - Duo Plus 300wr. It cannot be the router because all the other notebooks connect to it wireless and so does my iPad, Android device and tablet...so it rules that out?

This is not a small network, one of the biggest network.i have doubt on individual users on domain. before 2 months we had department wise users mean, for example Accounts@domainname.local. But after we created the individual users like john@domainname.local to all users. this is i believe the cause of problem. When we acess the server via the software it freezed for 5 seconds and then repeat to normal state. And after some time it hangs for 2 minutes.

Dec 1, 2011Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement.Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port.Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?
