View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a new hd to add to my current system and have a dual boot.I am going to install Win8 (beta) on new hd, (1gb sata hi-perfomace Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm w 32mb cache). I'm getting ready to partition the hd. I would like to have multiple partitions on hd, but I'm not real clear on a few things. First let me say that I'm not unfamiliar with partitioning a hd, just not multiple partitions for the purpose of keeping the OS, programs and data/doc separate. I have read up on creating multiple partitions, but I'm still a little confused about the type of each partition that the programs and data will go on. Once the hd is partioned and formated how is the os and program folder kept sepatate during the os install. I know the OS goes on the Primary. I'm not clear about logical and extended partitions and whether or not the programs and/or data goes on one or the other. Also, where is the MBR? Does that go on a separate partition as well or on the OS partition? I would also like to, if possible, decrease the hd data access time a little.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI regularly need to turn off windows 7 GUI settings such as aero, certain services, unload certain apps in memory, all in win 7 ultimate. These settings will always be the same. I would like to know if it is possible to create some sort of file*batch file?) which would turn these settings off, and also a separate file which would turn them back on again when i wanted them all back.
I am familiar with working with simple .bat files, and converting them into .exe's and attaching them to shortcut icons. So my only question is where do i find examples of how to write lines of code to manipulate the windows interface.
Just started setting up my backups with Comodo but suddenly realized that seemingly no name is associated with a backup. In my case I trying to create the following backups:
1. critical files: full/each-Sun
2. critical files: Inc/daily
3. studio files: full/1st-each-month
4. studio files: Inc/each-Sat
5. resource files: full/15-each-month
and so on...
But is it possible to create multiple backups using Comodo?? Or, am I just changing the full and Inc backups over and over again! How, for instance, can I check and/or change my 'critical files' backup?I have almost a T-Byte of data (I do 3D animation) which is why I like to breakup my backups.
Ok, so i have a few questions. instead of making thread for each. i am posting them hear.
1. like the title says, i want to know how to create one shortcut to launch multiple programs( Two or three programs at once)?
2. My second question is, is there a way that i pin a folder on taskbar and when click on that icon.it expand( only icons and their name in small space) like a fan( pop in and out). just like the Rocketdoc.?
3. And at last. how can i prevent a program from appearing in taskbar. like i have installed a skin for WMP and i like it to stay on the desktop.
Is this possible? I am renting a room out to another person and absolutely do not want them to access my files.
If it is possible, please explain how.
I have a laptop and a desktop. Both are running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. The laptop connects wirelessly to the router and the desktop is connected directly to the router with a cable. The laptop displays the network name that I assigned when I set up the network. However, the desktop displays that it is connected to "Network 2." When I try to create a homegroup, the system says that you must be on the same network. I think that Windows 7 is splitting the wired and wireless connection into two networks. Any ideas of how to fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to join a homegroup from the virtual PC it does not show me the Homegroup of the laptop, instead it prompts me to create a new homegroup. I create a new homegroup with the name HOME (same as the laptop homegoup name). After that the two computers, the laptop and the virtual PC in the laptop do not communicate with each other in the network. Therefore I conclude that somehow there are two different homegroups with the same name, one in the laptop and the other one in the virtual PC.

My brother downloads videos (Top Gear) through my PC and would like to be able to transfer them to his afterwards.
It seems I'm able to copy the files from my PC to the HTPC, but not cut them. It mentions that he (HTPC) needs administrative permission.
What settings do I need to enable him to cut the files?
I have a strange setting in my windows 7 configuration: There are two ip addresses on the same network connection at the same time.
[code]...
got Windows 7, and we both are now running it. I was eager to check out the homegroup function of Windows 7. Now, we are both visible to each other in the home group, but neither of us can open the others libraries. When I try to open her library, absolutely nothing happens.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm using a desktop running Windows 7 (soon to be 8) Ultimate. My target computer is a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
If I download a file, is it possible for me to set a download destination directly to the laptop if I initiate the download from the desktop? The computers will be on the same network and part of a Homegroup (if that matters). I'd like to create a folder on the desktop screen of the laptop, and have the files end up there.
Alternatively, I suppose I could have the file download to the desktop computer, and then I could wirelessly transfer it over via the Homegroups, but moving 1-2GB files would probably suck bandwidth and increase system resources on my end.
EDIT: Is this also possible with a second desktop computer as well? (One primary client, and two satellite computers).
I have updated several computers to Windows 7. On this particular computer (Dell Dimension 8400 desktop with Ethernet connection), each time there is a reboot or shutdown, when I log back in, the computer is disconnected from the network. I see that the router gives the computer an IP address, but Internet Explorer does not open Websites, Outlook does not receive email, etc. When I navigate to the 'Network and Sharing Center', I notice that there are 2 'Network Locations' - 1 'home' and 1 'public'. I have attempted to delete the 'public' location, and I have also attempted to merge the 2 'Network Locations' into 1. This seems to work, but I still cannot surf the Internet. Also, after a reboot, the 2 'Network Locations' are back--even after I merged or deleted them.
I have found a workaround for this. After each reboot and/or shutdown, I navigate to the 'Network and Sharing Center', I click on 'Change adaptor settings', I right-click to 'disable' the 'Local Area Connection', and finally I 'right-click' to 'enable' the 'Local Area Connection'. At that point, the 'public' location goes away (which leave only the 'home' connection) and I am able to immediately surf the Internet, receive email through Outlook, etc. This is a major issue because if the computer is rebooted, I can no longer connect to it remotely, until I am in front of the computer again to disable/re-enable the 'Local Area Connection' adaptor
I fear I've made a complete mess of things in trying to get this Windows 7 to share media with my devices. When I click on Start/Computer the left pane shows among other things Network and below that the name of my computer and that breaks out into a bunch of redundant folders. There is no opportunity to delete these folders.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just got a new laptop with Windows 7 (finally!) My question is this:
Is there a way to configure multiple internet connections with either a preferred primary connection or a way that I can manually route applications to a specific internet connection.
For example I am connect to a corporate lan for corporate email, unix access etc, can I plug in my 3g card and then use that connection when i use msn or a specific browser? I want both connections active at the same time, but the banned stuff on the corporate network to use my 3g connection.

View 29 Replies View RelatedHas anyone ever tried to change from XP to Vista, and create a new network connection to an FTP client? the "My Network" menu option has disapeared in both Vista and Win 7. The most logical choice therefore would be to look under Network for a menu option to do this. Nope.... Not there either.
I found out how to do it. It may be easy, but not if you cannot find it. Users should not have to search that hard to find an answer.
To help users, is there any plan to restore a menu option to do that under Networking?
How about putting Networking back under the Start Menu?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create both a static and dynamic network for my computer to choose from when I connect my notebook to one of two locations. I want to create a LAN 1 which picks up the static info specific and an LAN 2 for my dynamic connection.
This is possible to do with operating systems such as ubuntu and it is very easy, however is it even possible with Windows 7? I tried this with Vista as well and failed.
Can anyone help. I am tired of going into the TCP IP settings and reconfiguring this everyday.
I created a VPN using Hamachi, it's listed as a second connection, I set it as a "Home" connection.
Problem is, the computer I'm trying to connect to is both on my local, and Hamachi network.
I decided, OK I'll just create a Homegroup on my Hamachi network!
I went to create it, but it appears it created a Homegroup within both networks?
I'm really confused here, I want to create a Homegroup on JUST the Hamachi network right now, but when I go to create one, it's listed on both.
Will I still be able to use Homegroups with Hamachi even outside the local server, because it's a VPN?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I checked on my network, just recently, and I saw some strange names connected. I saw BOYKA, KYLO-PC, RADULOVIC-PC, and my computer. I was freaking out, so I went to the DHCP Reservation on my routers setup and checked the devices connected. It was just my devices. But I still changed the password, but I was kind of reassured of the fact that it was probably just a program that accesses the network. But I googled all the names and no kind of software came up that may use these names displayed on the network, nor anyone else having this problem. I am worried that a people are accessing my network. Also, no one around my house has any of those names. Also I cannot create a homegroup because the user KYLO already has one on the network.

After some 20 hours a day for nearly a month, it has taken its toll on my family. My son's new laptop for Xmas is now infected too. We will fix that very soon tho. Please guide me on how to proceed with this laptop for now. They have already wiped out my bank account once.
