I'm trying to transfer files from an older laptop that should go into App Data\Roaming, but I get a popup that I can't write there. I've changed the file attribution to uncheck Read Only for the file and its subsequent files and folders, but still canot write to, or even get to, the Roaming part of the tree.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to move my thumbnails cache from my SSD to a ramdrive, to stop excessive writes and also speed up the cache.I am using Dataram Ramdisk, and have moved FF cache, IE cache and temp files, and user TEMP and TMP files (but not system TEMP and TMP, which I moved to a HDD) so far.Moving the thumbnails cache is a bit more tricky, but should be doable using junction.

I already have a partition in my hard disk ( K: ) where existing User profiles/data are stored. Luckily there is only my profile and one for a guest user. I've read through some of the Tutorials on this site on how to create new users on a different drive/partition at the point of installing Win 7, and I've read how to change the User Folder Name of a profile.The fear I have is that the newname user in the 64bit will obliterate the oldname at the point of being used for the first time.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi intend to do a clean install of Windows 7 64bit. i currently have vista32 on my primary 500gb hd. i want to move my data onto my secondary 320gb hd so that i can clean install on the 500gb ... but i still want to access the data on the 2nd (vista32) HD.i want to use the Windows 7 HD in a new pc i have built. so:
1. how best to move my data to the second HD so that it can be read by the primary?
2. will there be a problem reading the second HD in a new set up (mobo, cpu etc)?
3. should i format the 500gb and then put it in the new setup then do the clean install?3b. if i should do that - should i partition it first?
I was wondering, exactly when will windows 7 begin writing to the hard disk, instead of the RAM?Is it when all of the RAM is "In Use" or could it happen even if only some is "in Use" and the rest of the RAM is on "Standby", as according to the resource monitor?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy new Lenovo T520 is behaving weirdly. It just randomly started happening on the evening of the 14th, and has continued since. My computer turns on, and everything loads, but then it just siezes up. I was able to open Task Manager, it shows my CPU Usage at 0%, and my memory usage at about 40% with 70 processes running. Opening up Resource monitor, under disk, i shows my disk is constantly reading and writing. At first there was an SVCHost that was constantly reading - Superfetch, so I disabled this. I saw improved performance for one day. I did a system restore back to 3 days ago, and saw performance improvement once again for 1 day. I removed everything from startup, and turned off as many services as I could. Under device manager, in the driver section, I found an error with the Security something driver (I cannot remember exactly, and my computer will not let me browse anywhere) so I uninstalled this driver. (I was going to update it in safemode, but it will not let me) In the system event log, ever since the 15th, I am seeing lots of events, these events were for Computer Browser services not starting - services which I did not disable. (Maybe I did, but I set all services I turned off to Manual not Disabled, so it should have started when it was called).

I've tried running them as admin, tried running them without UAC, and even tried to change the temp location from environment variables but it doesn't change. It seems the computer thinks I want Japanese, where available, for the extended info it gets for music CD's. So I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.The error is;Error opening files for writing?
What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Windows 7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

Windows Mobile Device Center doesn't work with Outlook 2010 if installed as 64 bit. Microsoft says to "fix" this by uninstalling Office 2010 and installing the 32 bit version!My question is are there any 3rd-party sync programs that will work with Windows 7 64 bit and Microsoft Office Outlook 64 bit and Windows Mobile 6.5 devices? I don't need to sync email but I do need to sync calendar, contacts, and tasks. And yes, I am aware that the iphone will sync with it! Silly Microsoft. I have 1.5 years left on my mobile contract with my Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

I have heard that you can ghost a file on the data drive into the x86 folder so that all new installs go there and then you still recieve most of the benefits of your ssd w/o clogging it up. View 10 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and never had any problem installing 64-bit programs.
Now, when a try to install any 64-bit programs it shows a message of incompatible version of the program with the running Windows, but my Windows 7 is 64 bits.
My computer got the BootMGR is missing problem, which I have had in the past which is not that big. I insert the Windows 7 64 Ultimate disk it starts up everything fine, press repair my computer and it finds the installation. But when I press on it and next it has an error pop up saying "This version of system recovery options is not conpattble with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that i compatible with this version of Windows." If I dont select anything but press next it allows me to look at the screen Im supposed to, but if I go to command prompt or click autmatically repair nothing will be saved or changed. This is the same disc I installed Windows with and repaired it several times. But I did have to reset BIOS earlier so this may have affected something.
