I'm trying to run a DOS program (Locoscript 2.51) in XP mode on a Windows 7 Ultimate virtual PC. This doesn't run - with a message 'error writing file(xxxx) path not found'.Program works perfectly in native XP (on a different machine) and the file is in the same place on both.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.The error is;Error opening files for writing?
What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Windows 7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

Computers all ping fine. Can ping by name too. If I try to connect via IP address, I get Error Code: Error0x80004005 Unspecified error
Ok, I have a laptop and a desktop. Desktop is currently running 7 x64 and laptop is running 7 x86.
Few weeks ago I was able to access my LAPTOP from my DESKTOP normally by using the Network in the explorer. I was prompted to key in my Username and Password of my LAPTOP and I gained access after.
Now, I have no idea what happened to my DESKTOP. I am able to access other computers but not my LAPTOP. It keeps stating Network path not found with error code 0x80070035. Troubleshooting indicates no problems found.
I do dual-boot with Vista x64 on my DESKTOP and I am able to gain access to my LAPTOP using Vista.
One of the workaround I got for Windows 7 is to create HomeGroup and use my LAPTOP to join it and I can gain access to Network after that.
So, is this a HomeGroup bug and any fix for it?
EDIT: Never mind, I just re-create my password on my laptop and it's fine now. So, it's really weird.

You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I did a search but could not find anything related to this error in Win 7. I have found some others attached to Win XP but have to do with the installation of some software which prevents access to explorer.exe. When I boot in safe mode this issue does not appear...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same.All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines.On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just recently returned from a trip out of town and found when I tried to boot my computer I had a Grub boot error 15, file not found. I've never heard of grub4dos before I began trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer and found that it is used for dual booting. I run windows 7 ultimate x64 and have never dual booted my machine. While my laptop itself is not password protected, I do require a password to get into windows.
get around the required password to install grub4dos, install linux, then copy my hard-drive, leaving it useless when they're done? If not, is there some other way, a virus or trojan, that could cause windows to fail and revert to grub? I did remove my hard-drive, put it into an external case and try to look at it on another computer. In the disk manager it shows that it's healthy, has 465gb avail and the format is RAW.

I have this laptop with Windows 7 as the operating system and with a capacity of 500 GB. My HDD was making loud noises and weird noises so I brought it to the shop and they told me to change the HDD because it might die anytime. So I did a full backup on my external hard disk, meaning that I cloned my laptop. I changed my 500gb HDD with a 240gb SSD. And when I tried to restore my backup files into the new drive, there's an error: "no disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found".
So I did some research on the internet and found out the reason of the error: it's because the image created was from a bigger drive than the new drive I put into my laptop. Even though my backup files are only about 100gb, I still cant restore it to my 240gb SSD because the image created was from my 500gb HDD. I am going to copy my backup files into an external hardisk with a capacity of 200gb and then backup from that drive and then I will restore it into my 240gb SSD. Will the backup file be considered as a backup from the 200gb drive or from the original 500gb HDD?
i installed a fresh copy of windows 7 onto my laptop and everything checks out i create a username and name the computer etc but then when it gets time to sign into my account it pops up with network path not found and doesnt let me sign in prompts me for a password when i dont have one too, allows me to click over and select different user and password but i have no other accounts on there, tried to reinstall it after formating the HD again but still no luck

My thing is that I've managed to take ownership of my slave drive; formerly in a tower - now trying to access it thru my windows 7 laptop. Ive taken ownership of " my documents," but it doesn't seem like it took; I still have to take ownership of every folder in it individually when I go into it. Furthermore, when I going into my music or video folders - I get a "file not found" error when I try to open the files.

I have a 11.04 ubuntu samba share that is serving files to my network (though I don't really think this is relevant). I have 2 Windows 7 64bit machines (1 laptop/1desktop) that can access these files fine, however I have 1 Windows 7 32bit that is unable to access the files. (I even think it may have been able to before.)When I browse the network and go to SERVER it says:
"Windows cannot access \SERVER.... the network path was not found"
HOWEVER when I navigate to \192.168.1.151 with explorer it works fine. What I have tried:
* I have removed all wireless networks and reauthenticated.
* I have set all network configs to the most open possible: network browsing: ON, sharing: ON, homegroup: Off and password authenticate.
* Disabled Norton Internet Security firewall (also on the other two computers)
Again this server is perfectly accessible from all other computers (even a third laptop come to think of it), so it must be something stupid with this one laptop.

"Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found" when trying to access any network shared drives. Our file server is a windows server 2003 standard edition.This problem occured yesterday on my laptop with OS windows 7 pro. I cannot access any shared folders, shared drives. I cannot access my own laptops shared folders. I can see the device on the network and can connect to my laptop and access files on my laptop from other pc's. I have checked all the services required and they are started, netbios over tcp/ip is enabled, network discovery is turned on, windows firewall is turned off and also tried disabling the antivirus on the laptop but none worked. Also tried the system restore, which did not allow me to log back into the domain giving error " Trust relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed". So had to undo the system restore.

I attempted to turn my PC on last night and got as far as black screen with cursor spinning, windows would not load. I booted into safe mode and ran superantispyware, malwarebytes, kaspersky....all came back finding nothing. From safe mode (or any mode) I can not acccess control panel, computer, etc; when I attempt to access I get the folllowing error msg, "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. Im not good with computers at all but I have Windows 7 and I played it on this computer before and I have a good computer so I know it's compatible.I put the Cd in and click the green launch Icon and the main menu comes up. I click install then it comes up with the four total wars and I check all of them and click next, and then when I get to the next page it asks me to put in disc 2 and select where I would like to install it. I put in the Cd and then pick where to install it (Default is the CD it is being installed from) I have tried my C drive and my external drive but neither works. A error message pops up and says Setup could not find a file or the specified path or disc. Please check that the proper disk is insert or specify new path.

They come up with the error message in the subject of this post. And it says i may not have permission to view the files? These are programs i downloaded such as skype, vlc media player, google talk, audacity, utorrent. Things like that. Only 1 did it at first, now 5.Really annoying and I cant see a reason for it. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them."There is only my profile on the install of windows and I am the administrator, i've tried from the start menu - run - CMD with admin privileges and it gives me the same message. I've tried to Take ownership but that option isn't available in the drop down menu - it doesn't restrict me accessing any file or folder just the running of any file.In safe mode i've ran AV & AS programs including - Spybot S&D, Superantispyware, Avast, Malwarebytes AM & Microsoft security essentials - and none of them have found anything except a few cookies the first time through which it removed and changed nothing, as you would expect. I am also running Online Armour as my firewall but had turned off the program guard to install couple of programs, but not the webshield. As i mentioned above in Safe Mode i can run most programs no problem including the AV's. I also run Msconfig in safe mode to see if i could see a service or startup program i don't recognise as i've experimented with alot of them when i was running XP and there doesn't appear to be something that looks out of place.
