Windows.wim Missing In Recovery Mode
Apr 14, 2011
Using a Advent Modena M200 Blue, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I had windows start-up problems in that windows would not start normally. So tried hitting f8 and fixing startup environment. But this reported that the problem could not be fixed. Then decided to boot from the Advent recovery DVD's made when I initially purchased the notebook.Booting from the DVD, I chose fully install windows option, then "full destructive recovery". First time I ran this I had the option to select run the recovery from the hard disk or the recovery DVD. I chose DVD.Then I get the following screen - Full Destructive Recovery in progress
1 Preparing hard disk drive
2 copying files ...(5/4) 16% at this stage I get prompted to insert disk2 (of the recovery DVD)Then after about 30mins I get prompted to re-insert disk 1 to continue. The copying files continues with the following progress (8/4) 76% (9/4) 11%.The 9/4 makes little sense. You would think that after 4/4. It would move to the next stage which is stage 3 - Installing windows. Then stage 4 Installing hard drive recovery, then stage 5 finalising recovery. But at around 11% of 9/4 a window pops-up with the following-error:Error: Windows.wim missing

so somehow I caught the malware program known as Windows 7 recovery. As per its standard operations it made my computer seem like it was having a bunch of issues, hid all the files on my hard drive, removed my background, etc. I followed a removal guide I found here on bleeping computer and it did rid of me of that annoying malware. A lingering problem I am still experiencing is that all my start menu items are missing. For example there is a folder for Microsoft office, but when you open it it shows as empty, but if I open a Microsoft office file like say a word file the program opens as normal. I have run the unhide.exe file a couple of times, and shutdown my firewall and maleware protection, but to no avail the start menu items still seem to remain hidden.

This morning I woke up and the first thing I always do is switch on my PC to check email and to have a quick chat with my friend who lives In Australia before it get's late over there. My PC was on, running S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat via steam at the time, whilst still talking to my friend in Australia. Whilst typing to him, my system locked up mid sentence. I left it for 15 minutes, got Coffee to wake up, still froze.. I had no choice to manually switch it off via the Power Button on the Tower. When I switch the tower back on, I had no Display on the screen. Now, this isn't actually the problem, I've fixed this kind of issue on a friends PC before and knew straight away my Memory Modules had just died. I removed the RAM, switched on, waited for the long Beep to confirm my Mobo was still breathing.. Placed one Module back in, black screen, tried the other etc etc.. Simple fix, get my spare RAM that I saved from an older build, stuck them in, powered up.
At this point I had to fix a corrupt winload.exe (Or similar) likely due to me having to turn the power off manually.. I hit the Recovery Console, let Window's do it stuff, corrupt file repaired, hello desktop..Just to confirm it wasn't a one-off, I Shutdown the system and powered it back on, still successfully reaching Desktop with no issues. Now this is where it gets weird.. I have a room I keep PC spares as well as my Anti-Static mats and junk. I took my PC to this room in order to change my RAM. After I got the PC working.. All I did was put the side panel back on, take my PC back to my desk in my Lounge where it always is and somehow, some way, in the time it took me to move the PC, despite having no power, Windows managed to Corrupt itself... Eh?
To clarify, I fixed my original issue by swapping out the dead RAM, Fixed a Corrupt File and then successfully booted to desktop. I had fixed the problem, but when I moved my PC back to where it lives, it no longer works. I get to "Windows is Starting" and it freezes.(On a side note: The PC was not knocked on the journey from one room to the next and yes I did double check to see if a cable had came loose. I have not added any additional peripherals, the PC is set up in the exact same way it was when I performed the original RAM Swap)
In an attempt to fix this I have so far, from the (F8) Advanced Options. Repair your Computer All I get is the usual black screen with "Windows is loading files..." with the white progress bar. The Progress Bar reaches full, but then nothing happens. It stays on the same screen and never progresses. I gave the process 15 minutes and still nothing..
Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)
Exactly the same as above.
Safe Mode
Gets stuck at ../disk.sys

I've been trolling Google for about an hour now and haven't found anyone with this exact problem (which worries me a bit).My boyfriend got several viruses on his Asus desktop computer. After multiple attempts and anti-virus programs we decided that it was best to just go ahead and restore his computer to factory defaults. We backed up files that he wanted to keep then followed the instructions from the online manual (Asus CM1630 Manual page 66) to do a System Recover since we didn't have the CD.Everything looked like it was going well, no errors during recovery, but after the reboot when the recover was finished, the computer brought us back to the Recovery Window after an error "RDVD folder not exist!", an error I can't find much information on. You can click "OK" then exit out of the Recovery window, but it gives you a "Disk 0 doesn't exist", restarts, and throws you back to the "RDVD" error.
Only thing I can gather from this is that for some reason it's not writing to the partition properly. Again, we don't have the $50 CD to resintall the OS (Essentio Recovery Software). However, I did find this site that clams to have official ISO images for Windows 7: Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) My Digital Life I'm tempted to just burn the ISO image to a CD and try to reinstall it that way, but he doesn't have any of the paper work or anything so if those installs require an activation code, we're plumb out of luck.

My Zenbook crashed yesterday when I clicked OK to a "LiveUpdate" pop-up on my desktop. Guess it was from Asus but I'm not sure, as the pop-up didn't contain any text...
When I boot it gets to the (pulsating) Windows logo - after that I just get a black screen with a movable cursor.
None of the safe modes works - just black screens with "safe mode" written in every corner.
I've made a bootable USB with Windows 7, and that boots up fine to the install/recovery mode - sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't get that far, it just goes to the black screen even though I'm certain it boots from the USB. Weird.
Anyway, the recovery mode can't find any system images, and I can't see the SSD when I try the 'load the drivers' option. HOWEVER, the harddrive DOES show up in the BIOS, but only IF the USB is in the machine?
I have an option to reinstall Windows (I think...), but I would very much like to safe some files before the drive is formatted...

I'm frankly not that familiar with Windows 7. Also, this isn't a computer that I used, so I'm not familiar with what exactly was happening, if anything, before the situation it's in now.My friend has the following system:Gateway NV7915uIntel Core i3 330M 2.13Ghz500 GB SATA HDD4 GB DDR3 SDRAMWindows 7 Home Premium 64 BitOn Start Windows Normally, it just freezes on "Starting Windows" I have left it like this for days with no progress. On Launch Startup Repair, "Windows is loading files..." OK Then when "Starting Windows" appears, BSOD:DRIVE_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUALSTOP: 0x000000D1On Safe Mode, BSOD at classpnp.sys:PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREASTOP: 0x00000050On Debug Kernel, freezes on "Starting Windows"On Windows Home Premium 64-Bit Recovery Disc (I downloaded this, I did not make it from this system, the owner never did this), Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].... "Windows is loading files..." OK, Progress bar moves a bit and then:STOP: c00021a {Fatal System Error}The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000The system has been shut down.
If I use a Retail Windows 7 Disc, "Windows is loading files" OK, then "Starting Windows" the logo forms, and boom:STOP: 0x0000008EI took the HDD out of this system and popped it in my tower. I ran a virus scan (as expected, nothing found), ran an Advanced System Care 5 scan/cleanup. Then I ran a Check Disk (Checked - Automatically fix file system errors and Checked Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors), finished fine. no issues. All files are accessible and everything seems fine on the HDD when it's a slave in my tower. So at this point, since I cannot boot into any form of Windows or repair or command prompt that I am aware of, what can I do?

I am using WS2008 however the procedure is the same as Windows 7.
What I want to do, is have the ability to install, on a partition, a bootable partition where it will allow me to install Windows from a directory which contains the entire contents of the DVD/ISO which is on location on another HDD (on the same computer)
how is it possible to do this? Basically this is for a server that exists "out there" and have no access to it. I manage it myself etc... and I know this is possible to do, but has been such a long time since Ive done it.
What is it that I need to install on the computer to allow me to go into some mode (recovery mode maybe) so I can run setup?

I have a HP PC and I'm trying to use HP recovery plus to install Windows 7. It consists of 3 discs and the thing is, that I insert the first one in the optical drive, restart computer, press F11 to enter the recovery menu or whatever. Then it loads Windows files, then the HP recovery itself starts. The problem is, that when I enter the recovery menu, the computer will go to power saving mode after a while, no matter what. I tried pressing some random keys to get it back up, but it just doesn't work.

I have a 2 year old vaio that has i5 and 8 gb of ram. I have windows 7 professional x64. My computer froze while on the Internet, and when I manually shut it down and restarted it, it gave me two options. Start repair console, and start normally. When I started it normally, it froze on the windows logo. I restarted it, and tried recovery console, but it loads, then gives me an arrow with a background of blue and a bird on the right, which is windows 7's background when logging in. But it only shows this.I have tried safe mode, but that freezes on classpnp.sys and I have tried to boot from windows 7 recovery disk. I have also tried windows vista recovery disk. When the windows 7 disk booted, it loads and then asks for my country, but then again shows just a cursor.Blue screen of death error is unmountable boot volume.

Every time I boot my computer, it come up loading files, the open the boot recovery mode. If I leave it, it says that it fix one error, then it restarts and does the same again. The error was that it the boot.ini was missing. So I booted it up with ubuntu, and created an empty boot.ini file, then booted the minitool partition wizard (Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.) and configured the boot.ini. But still no luck. It's booting into recovery mode because that is the first partition.

my sister has Sony Vaio E-Series which runs windows 7 Home edition. She encountered a problem starting up the windows and decided to use Recovery Disk, Recovery Disk stopped working and needs additional source (disk) to run. She weren't successful so decided to stop recovery and run it again. After that the error "BOOTMGR is missing" appeared! When I put the recovery disk inside the machine it doesn't work. F8 and F4 keys also don't work. So I can't use the similar solution mentioned on the internet like running "system restore". She also doesnt have Windows 7 installation disc to run.

I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

the computer I am concerned with is running Windows 7 with IE8, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I am currently in Safe Mode with Networking without issue. The owner of the computer says that something happened earlier today while he was online that sounds like some false antivirus popup, but he's unsure. Here are the symptoms in normal mode. Every application, from moving through them to opening and closing them, runs exceptionally slow - one to three minutes to open, at least a minute to open internet pages. I noticed that, when in IE, as the pages are loading the IE page disappears and reappears. I am not very familiar with Windows 7 so I don't know if it is related. The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on. CPU usage is very high.So far, I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary. I ran CCleaner and cleaned up. MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode, full scans, and found nothing. This is also posted in Viruses and Malware, but I'm unsure where it should live.

My entire organization in currently running XP, however we are thinking about going to Windows 7 if i can get this to work.We are using Siebel 7 Production in order to manage our customers, and this only runs in IE6. This is fine since we are still using XP and actually this is the reason we are using XP.I have setup a test computer with Windows 7 and XP mode and have published the link for Siebel to Windows 7 so I can just launch it from the desktop. Great!!! The issue that i am having is that we are in the middle of developing a replacement for Siebel, and this requires us to move our data to Sharepoint 2010. Within Siebel we have always used a link that opens a webpage to customer purchase history that is hosted in Sharepoint. With moving to Sharepoint 2010 IE6 is no longer supported, we will need IE7 or above.y question is, when i click on that link located within the Siebel IE6 window, how can i get it to launch in the brower in windows 7, and not in IE6 XP mode? Is there a way we can change the link to force it to open in the actual windows 7 browser?
