I cannot start my windows 7 in safe more or use recovery function. Problem happened after windows 7 update, then after restart windows defender asked me to restart again, and then blue screen or auto restart forever. View 4 Replies View RelatedGot a nice comp about a year ago off craigslist and havent had a single issue with it until now. I am not your typical "oh-you-mean-I-have-to-plug-it-in-to-work" end user, but neither am I an "expert". Especially in this case I'm in way over my head; a few days ago I went to slave up a buddy's HD. The mistake here was that I had always worked with ATA, not SATA. Yes, I was a temporary idiot, and no, I don't remember WHAT I was thinking. Whatever was or wasn't going through my head, I hooked up the second drive to the second clip on the (belt?). Everything started as usual until the windows loading bar; after the bar, I got a black screen, and then the computer shut itself off.On attempt #2 to startup (and removing the second hard drive), before the loading bar, I get a prompt for "Windows startup repair" or "Start windows normally". Option #1 results in "windows is loading files" for about 10 seconds, then black screen, then computer shuts itself off again. Option #2 just results in windows loading bar, black screen, then computer shuts itself off.

After running diagnostics specifically towards this, it consistently fails the Confidence Test and consistently passes the Device Self Test (the Read Test and Verify Test options are greyed out).I've defaulted everything in the BIOS (although it says my HD is in a Raid setting, which as I understand it is for synching multiple HDs together, but the only option to change it to is ATA, which I know my HD is not). I have tried bare-bonesing the startup as well, but running only microsoft stuff I still get the same results as above, and I dont know enough to risk turning off anymore startup stuff.
The most confusing part of all is when I broke down and just decided to reformat the drive and start from scratch. Again, I could only boot from the Windows 7 CD in safe mode, and while in there I reformatted the main drive (there are 3 partitions; OEM, Recovery, and the Main). I have done this process multiple times, but the only thing I get even after reformatting the drive is more OS to choose from when starting the comp.As for computer stats I dont remember everything off the top of my head, and can't get past the setup screen now on windows, so I dont know how to check. From the dell website comes this mess: Dell Technical Support Home Page / Dell Troubleshooting Search Other than that what I can remember is:8gig ram, quadcore (cant remember gHZ), 1mb ATI Radeon vid card, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Sorry if this isn't enough, if anyone knows of a way I can check for further info I'll be happy to oblige.

If I use a Retail Windows 7 Disc, "Windows is loading files" OK, then "Starting Windows" the logo forms, and boom:STOP: 0x0000008EI took the HDD out of this system and popped it in my tower. I ran a virus scan (as expected, nothing found), ran an Advanced System Care 5 scan/cleanup. Then I ran a Check Disk (Checked - Automatically fix file system errors and Checked Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors), finished fine. no issues.All files are accessible and everything seems fine on the HDD when it's a slave in my tower.So at this point, since I cannot boot into any form of Windows or repair or command prompt that I am aware of, what can I do?

Shut down last night...and this morning windows will not come on in normal or safe mode. When try to start in safe mode it says STOP: c0000135 program cannot start %hs is missing. On another post with similar code it had a link to put on usb drive and to put in infected laptop and restart with f8. When I did that it said no bootable partition in table. When usb is not in it just goes back to stop message. I have a dell inspiron core i3 (I don't know if that matters). I have tried running restore to previous time and it did not work. when i click on repair it goes to the launch window or start in safe mode option?

Now I had no problems with it setting up Firefox, installing antivirus or installing the host of windows updates.What did happen is that when I tried to reboot (for the second time, first time wasn't a problem) it gave me a screen called "configuring windows features". Now I at this point I cried out a few curses and went to have something to eat.When I returned, half an hour later, the progress was still at 15%, the same as when I left it. I got blue screen once more, and my pc restarted. Now I can't even start my windows, I get some black screen before windows 7 logo appears and I can't even start my windows in safe mode nor can I boot from a CD/DVD.

I recently somehow got a nasty virus into my lappy. It was extremely weird since I just bought a new anti-virus (Norton, to be exact) and my PC became super slow. I recognized signs of viruses and I decided to wipe the PC clean. My friend gave two Windows 7 DVDs. However, even after making DVD the first boot order at BIOS it just doesn't work. My DVD rom makes really nasty sounds and it waits on a black screen for a bit and then it shows me to choose safe mode or start normally.
Basically, my PC has always read DVDs (logo on it confirms it). Also, Rom itself isn't broken, other discs like the Norton one work fine. Since the DVDs my friend gave me were DVD R- and DVD RW. Later, I got yet another disc which was DVD R+ but it STILL didn't work. My PC doesn't recognize the DVDs even normally, through My Computer. Did the viruses ruin my drivers or something? My rom always read DVDs but why make weird noises now?
I have a 2 year old vaio that has i5 and 8 gb of ram. I have windows 7 professional x64. My computer froze while on the Internet, and when I manually shut it down and restarted it, it gave me two options. Start repair console, and start normally. When I started it normally, it froze on the windows logo. I restarted it, and tried recovery console, but it loads, then gives me an arrow with a background of blue and a bird on the right, which is windows 7's background when logging in. But it only shows this.I have tried safe mode, but that freezes on classpnp.sys and I have tried to boot from windows 7 recovery disk. I have also tried windows vista recovery disk. This morning I woke up and the first thing I always do is switch on my PC to check email and to have a quick chat with my friend who lives In Australia before it get's late over there. My PC was on, running S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat via steam at the time, whilst still talking to my friend in Australia. Whilst typing to him, my system locked up mid sentence. I left it for 15 minutes, got Coffee to wake up, still froze.. I had no choice to manually switch it off via the Power Button on the Tower. When I switch the tower back on, I had no Display on the screen. Now, this isn't actually the problem, I've fixed this kind of issue on a friends PC before and knew straight away my Memory Modules had just died. I removed the RAM, switched on, waited for the long Beep to confirm my Mobo was still breathing.. Placed one Module back in, black screen, tried the other etc etc.. Simple fix, get my spare RAM that I saved from an older build, stuck them in, powered up.
At this point I had to fix a corrupt winload.exe (Or similar) likely due to me having to turn the power off manually.. I hit the Recovery Console, let Window's do it stuff, corrupt file repaired, hello desktop..Just to confirm it wasn't a one-off, I Shutdown the system and powered it back on, still successfully reaching Desktop with no issues.Now this is where it gets weird.. I have a room I keep PC spares as well as my Anti-Static mats and junk. I took my PC to this room in order to change my RAM. After I got the PC working.. All I did was put the side panel back on, take my PC back to my desk in my Lounge where it always is and somehow, some way, in the time it took me to move the PC, despite having no power, Windows managed to Corrupt itself... Eh?
To clarify, I fixed my original issue by swapping out the dead RAM, Fixed a Corrupt File and then successfully booted to desktop. I had fixed the problem, but when I moved my PC back to where it lives, it no longer works. I get to "Windows is Starting" and it freezes.(On a side note: The PC was not knocked on the journey from one room to the next and yes I did double check to see if a cable had came loose. I have not added any additional peripherals, the PC is set up in the exact same way it was when I performed the original RAM Swap)
In an attempt to fix this I have so far, from the (F8) Advanced Options. Repair your Computer All I get is the usual black screen with "Windows is loading files..." with the white progress bar. The Progress Bar reaches full, but then nothing happens. It stays on the same screen and never progresses. I gave the process 15 minutes and still nothing..

So i just purchased a new computer to run World of Warcraft xDThis morning my computer wasnt working as intended. I booted it up and it went through the usual stuff, the winds logo popped up, then suddenly the screen went black and i got the message "out of range" on my monitor.I restarted the computer and the same happened again, after the windows logo, the screen goes blank.I then ran it in safe mode + networking and everything was fine !I tried "repair my computer" on the start up menu, but the PC still wouldnt run in normal mode.I tried configuring my PC to an earlier point in time, but the PC still wouldnt run in normal mode .I tried uninstalling my drivers (within safe mode) and it still wouldnt boot up in normal mode.
Could it be the monitor resolution? if so whyyyyy? it's been working fine for two weeks.Also yesterday we had about 5 random power cuts? could this have caused the problem?Everything works fine in safe mode so i think it's not a hardware problem, but normal mode just gets me to the windows logo loading screen then the monitor goes black

View 9 Replies View RelatedI know this topic is similar to a number of others that have been posted before but i have not been able to successfully apply any of the solutions to the posts i have found addressing this issue.
It began happening after downloading an .mkv file. initially exp crashed and asked to restart. Did so and all good apart from occasional crashing and restarting.
Now turned lap-top on again and it won't even finish restarting before crashing, and this time there is no escaping the loop. Tried a restore from before the file was there but for some reason this didn't make any difference!
Currently in safe mode, have disabled all non ms services and all start-up items using msconfig and restarted normally - didn't change anything.
Ran CCleaner and cleaned out temp files and registry and still no change.
After found this site downloaded and ran SF diag tool as instructed in FAQ and copied all 8 files except Minidump folder which is apparently empty. Remaining files attached.
One person has suggested repairing using Windows Installer dvd this doesn't help me as OS was pre-installed and I don't have a DVD.
My computer will only start in safe mode. When booting normally, the computer freezes at login.

Now every time I try to start the system it gives the message 'Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media and select'. From this screen you can't do anything. I'm not able to start in safe-mode either. I can get F12 to work to get to boot manager.

It started up normally, got to the Users page, I selected my profile, typed in my password and the puter suddenly restarted. Huh. So I tried again and typed faster. The puter at first began to start up in safe mode then suddenly restarted. I tried one more time but this time when it got to the Profiles page I left it alone and counted. 12 seconds later it suddenly restarted by itself. So, I can not enter Safe Mode.The infection has been removed and MSE shows that it is clear. Correlation is not causation so I can not say that the Safe Mode problem is related to the infection, and I can not even remember ever starting this particular machine in Safe Mode since I bought it new.
