I can only boot up in safe mode Ive tried loading windows 7 disc to repair wont work in safe mode,did restore no luck,did panda safe disk reload did virus scan clean,did dskchk,tried start windows normal from f8 menu,last known good config etc.
View 3 RepliesLike the title says, my computer is stuck on a black screen.I downloaded an update and was instructed to restart the computer. After restarting the computer it went to a black screen. It won't do anything past that. I've tried starting it in safe mode but always with the same result. I have no idea what to do with this short of taking it to Best Buy to have the geek squad take a look at it and frankly I don't feel like doing that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy parent's Desktop was having a side x side error and i've been trying to help her get it repaired. Her problem is that none of the programs will open except for internet explorer. All other applications give the sxstrace.exe error and won't open. I advised her to hit F8 and get into safe mode so I could try and help her further. She couldn't get that to work so I had her force safe mode through msconfig. That worked and got her into safe mode and she's still getting the sxs error and can't get anything to work for her. I advised her to go back into mconfig and uncheck the safe mode boot and wait til I come home and fix it. Now the problem is when she tries opening the msconfig, she gets an error on that saying it can't open the application with the error code 0xc000142 Now she's stuck in safe mode with no networking and the computer is basically useless. I'm 800 miles from home and won't be there until thanksgiving and i'm trying to help her over the phone so im kind of limited here. I was trying to get remote assist going for her but she couldn't install that either without the sxstrace.exe error.
they're running windows 7, If i remember correctly it's the x64 version.
Basically my hp 2000 screen is busted so I have been using a external display with that being said I had accidentally toggled te safe mode minimal option in MSCONFIG and my computer rebooted I have no way of seeing what's on the screen right now because it is not loading to my external display what are my options? I called hp and they just told me to get the display of the laptop changed
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have toshiba satellite A205 win 7 its been freezing a lot lately i dont know why so i tried to install Windows 7 OS again (its not genuine) i usually do this successfully if i get virus but i dont think its virus this time but during the installation it got stuck it passes the copying windows file up to completing installation but it says it needs to be restarted and i did this several times it either hangs up or tells me cannot be installed restart.whenever i start all over again a black screen comes up with listing windows 7 several times asking me to select 1.i select the latest but same thing happens allover cannot access safe mode either i tried to install win 7 ultimate geniune but same thing happens.i also tried the repairing option its not working keeps telling me to restart..i believe its the hdd thats corrupted.i need to get my files.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my computer everything seems to be working fine but after login it says Please Wait then freezes at Welcome screen and the cursor can be moved around the screen and shows the loading icon and the screen also flashes black every few seconds. I've restarted and attempted to access Safe Mode however it also freezes at Welcome screen. I went into the repair system screen and tried a system restore but it says there are no restore points available and I know I haven't deleted my restore points. I've tried disconnecting any of the hardware I've had installed but that hasn't helped either. There also isn't any faulty hardware. When it was last working it said there was a Windows update so I installed the update but when I tried to turn on the computer the next time thats when the problem started and I don't remember what the update was for. I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit about 2 months ago and up until now I've had no problems with it. What can I do?

My Windows 7 ultimate x64 is rebooting itself at the welcome/logon screen, in safe mode only. Normal mode is fine. The reboot happens instantly, after a few seconds at the welcome screen, the screen goes black and the system is rebooted as though I had hit the "reboot" button on the case, with no clean shutdown taking place. I am at a loss to know what could be starting in safe mode, that _doesn't_ start in normal mode, to cause this.
I have recently done a repair install of windows (the problem was there before that), I have tried replacing the safe mode parts of the registry with clean ones downloaded from an AV vendor website (mcafee if I remember correctly), and have tried doing sfc /scannow which resulted in a corrupted boot.sdi being replaced with the archived copy. None of these have fixed the problem.
Obviously, given that I have a usable normal mode, and good backups, this isn't the biggest problem ever, but it would be nice to get it fixed especially for the next time I need to fix a dodgy driver install or similar. What I can check next, particularly in regards to understanding the startup process and what will be loading at the welcome screen that might be causing the reboot.
I went into msconfig on the work laptop and changed the boot to safe boot network, as soon as I went to boot up the laptop and get into safe mode, the laptop freezes at CLASSPNP.sys then I have to reboot.I need to get it to boot back into windows normally, but even selecting "Start windows normally" sends it to safe mode because I set it to boot there in msconfig. What can I possibly do? I've tried running start up repair but says it cannot repair the issue. Due to security, the laptop hard drive has been encrypted with truecrypt, and therefore when I put the OS DVD in to try and do something from the command prompt, there are no OS's listed as installed so cannot alter the bootmbr or any windows files.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 home premium 32 bit dell laptop. Lately, it takes more than 10 minutes before it boots before the windows logo appears). From there the computer works normally. I got a suggestion to check for malwares or viruses so that is what I did. I started by going to msconfig and edited the boot options to start automatically to safe mode with networking, then rebooted my system. After booting, it loaded up the initial screen of safe mode, but then it restarted by itself.
I am now stuck on this reboot loop going into safe mode, it won't even let me go back to normal mode. I went to startup repair, but it didn't find anything, so had to reboot again onto the same situation. I have searched for possible answers, and the best that I could get was to remove the safe boot options and go back to normal mode. The syntax to type was bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safe boot but it didn't work, same with bcdedit /deletevalue safe boot.

Now every time I try to start the system it gives the message 'Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media and select'. From this screen you can't do anything. It started up normally, got to the Users page, I selected my profile, typed in my password and the puter suddenly restarted. Huh. So I tried again and typed faster. So, I can not enter Safe Mode.The infection has been removed and MSE shows that it is clear. Correlation is not causation so I can not say that the Safe Mode problem is related to the infection, and I can not even remember ever starting this particular machine in Safe Mode since I bought it new.

I am not your typical "oh-you-mean-I-have-to-plug-it-in-to-work" end user, but neither am I an "expert". Especially in this case I'm in way over my head; a few days ago I went to slave up a buddy's HD. The mistake here was that I had always worked with ATA, not SATA. Yes, I was a temporary idiot, and no, I don't remember WHAT I was thinking. Whatever was or wasn't going through my head, I hooked up the second drive to the second clip on the (belt?). Everything started as usual until the windows loading bar; after the bar, I got a black screen, and then the computer shut itself off.On attempt #2 to startup (and removing the second hard drive), before the loading bar, I get a prompt for "Windows startup repair" or "Start windows normally". Option #1 results in "windows is loading files" for about 10 seconds, then black screen, then computer shuts itself off again. Option #2 just results in windows loading bar, black screen, then computer shuts itself off.

After running diagnostics specifically towards this, it consistently fails the Confidence Test and consistently passes the Device Self Test (the Read Test and Verify Test options are greyed out).I've defaulted everything in the BIOS (although it says my HD is in a Raid setting, which as I understand it is for synching multiple HDs together, but the only option to change it to is ATA, which I know my HD is not). I have tried bare-bonesing the startup as well, but running only microsoft stuff I still get the same results as above, and I dont know enough to risk turning off anymore startup stuff.
The most confusing part of all is when I broke down and just decided to reformat the drive and start from scratch. Again, I could only boot from the Windows 7 CD in safe mode, and while in there I reformatted the main drive (there are 3 partitions; OEM, Recovery, and the Main). I have done this process multiple times, but the only thing I get even after reformatting the drive is more OS to choose from when starting the comp.As for computer stats I dont remember everything off the top of my head, and can't get past the setup screen now on windows, so I dont know how to check. From the dell website comes this mess: Dell Technical Support Home Page / Dell Troubleshooting Search Other than that what I can remember is:8gig ram, quadcore (cant remember gHZ), 1mb ATI Radeon vid card, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I noticed my anti-virus software from Norton is no longer working. When I tried to delete the file to re-download it the program would not delete from my computer. I tried to just update it from the internet the "Run; Save;Cancel menu appeared and when I clicked run nothing happened. I tried this function in safe mode with the same result.
Now my problem is affecting other programs like Microsoft and the shortcuts on my desktop. I have tried downloading the AVG anti virus I ran into the same problem. I am lost for options since it is not letting me run any programs on my computer. I can download programs just fine but thats it. I can use the internet just fine but I try to stay away from that since it leaves me open for more viruses. I need to know of other options that I can try.

Recently I was streaming a TV show off of sidereel.com and firefox froze. I switched to Internet explorer and began to watch again, but the computer began to make a "dinging" noise occasionally. I then ran a norton anti-virus sweep which turned up only a few cookies.After this, I watched lectures from my school's class that I had downloaded, and during this time, the computer froze and became unresponsive. I turned it off manually, and it has not been able to restart in normal mode since then. Every time I try to login, after I put in my password, it goes to a blue screen and says "System_Service_Exception" and then it restarts itself.
Occasionally it doesn't even make it to the windows login, and freezes at the "HP" screen in the beginning of startup.Around the same time that this problem manifested itself, there may have been a new Windows 7 update that my computer was running in the background on its own.I think the problem may be more related to the windows update than to other issues, but I have tried going to a system restore point (coincidentally, the only point available might be a restore point created by the windows update). I have no other restore points available, but I am able to access my computer in safe mode.
