Oct 14, 2011 i recently got an SSD therefore i wont to migrate my windows to it, I have a program which does this for me but when i go into my c: the "Windows" Folder is 37.7GB. But after looking on the web i noticed that most users installation size is around 10-15GBs
Note: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit.

Jan 28, 2010I'm running Windows 7 64 bit (Ultimate). My build number 7600. I use the feature "Restore Previous Folder Windows at login". The window Explorer comes back up when I reboot. However, unlike WindowsXP, the window(s) come up at a different location and different size.
This is frustrating to me. I have a computer that I run lots of "test" software. I like to have 3-different Windows Explorer running at the same time. I have them at a specific size and location on my monitor for a reason. But like I explained earlier, at each boot up, everything is messed up.

Nov 24, 2012I have followed the instructions listed from previous threads, however, I am still not able to retrieve the folder: My Pictures I actually deleted both My documents and My Pictures folders by accident, and I was able to restore My documents from the recycle bin, however, My Pictures folder was not in the Recycle bin to begin with so I was not able to restore it.I have searched the shell: My Pictures, looked through and unhid all files, but I am still not successful in restoring My Pictures folder(and pictures I need and want to have all back in my computer ....And I also do not have the option or folder titled My Pictures, but only a folder Pictures

I just installed Win 7 a few days ago and am still learning after years on XP.When I open System Restore, I only get one restore option, and it's from last night. When I check the block for show more options there is no change even after I close/re-open Sys Restore.Doesn't the system create a new restore point on boot? Doesn't it keep older restore ponts? Also, I want all my files to open with large icons. In many of the folders I can't find a "view" option anywhere/anyway.

Oct 8, 2011Recently my computer was attacked by a virus. The virus made it so I couldn't access my C drive at all, but could still use all my start up progams. For some reason it also erased all of my desktop icons, except for diablo2 LOD (don't know why that one was still there....). Anyway, after removing viruses with malware bytes I did a system restore to about 2 weeks prior. After the computer was done everything seemed fine. Computer was running fine etc. My problem is files that were contained in my folders seem to have disappeared.
I know the files are still on the hard drive, but some of my folders disappeared (these are folders I created long before what the restore date was) making me unable to access the files unless I remember their names and can type them in the windows explorer. I discovered the files were still there when running a video game emulator, i clicked open rom, and just typed in the file name of one of my games I couldn't get to through my computer anymore, and it worked, game loaded up. How I can get my folders to come back, so I can easily access the files in them.
Changing X64 Default Installation Folder(s)?
Feb 5, 2012I just upgraded from 32 bit to 64 bit windows 7, I have two harddrives, a 40 gig for my os (C and a 1 tb for everything else (D. That's how it was on the 32 bit system, but now on 64 bit, there are more folders to mess with (Program Files and Program Files x86). How do I tell windows to install to the bigger D: drive and not fill up my small C: drive? Also, the programs that were already installed on my D: drive, will they need to be moved to the x86 folder, reinstalled, or can I continue to run them from their current location?

Anyway, every now and then I would get these pop-ups from Microsoft saying its not genuine. He would give me a script to run that would fix it, until it would happen again.Bottom line I foud out later this was pirated software so I purchased a normal copy (win7 pro 64 bit) to do a reinstal of the software, BUTTTTT now I can't do it because I keep getting these errors saying "Windows was unable to create the required instalation folder 0x80070005". I know the last update for the pirated copy was something to remove "RemoveWAT.exe". I tried to do a restore in Win7 to a previous state but it errored "0x80070001"Any advice on what to do. I don't want to have to reformat the whole drive, because this was a dual boot on a new MAC so I could boot in iether MAC or Win7.

Changing Default Installation Folder To Separate Drive?
Sep 4, 2011If you have a small but fast (or maybe not so fast) drive that you would like to ONLY run Windows off of and a larger separate HDD that you want to use as the install drive for all programs.In my case I have a 50GB SSD and a RAID0 array of 2TB. With space being limited on the SSD the best option for me is to install everything to the RAID array and leave the OS on the SSD. Mind you, you don't have to be running a RAID array to do this. That's just how my system is set up. You'll probably be better off just using a larger single HDD for stability reasons.And if you are doing a fresh install you should give this tutorial a look: User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation So the first step is to open REGEDIT. Simply click the Start Menu, type REGEDIT in the search bar and hit ENTER.Next look for the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" Once opened go to "SOFTWARE". There are two folder in this directory we will be editing. Note that the second folder "WOW64" is only for 64-bit users. If you are running 32-bit then the "WINDOWS" folder is all you will need to make changes to.Now from the "WINDOWS" folder you want to select "CURRENTVERSION". Simply click the folder itself not the arrow next to it. This is what you should see in the main window to the right of the directories. Now my registry settings have already been changed. Note that my secondary drive is "D:". Originaly everything here was set to "C:".
Once this is finished the 32-bit users are finished and can restart their systems. 64-bit users have one more step. Now you want to go to your "WOW64" folder. While I just realized I forgot to cut a snippet for this step it's fairly simple. Once in the "WOW64" folder you once again want to click the "CURRENTUSER" folder and observe the main window to the right.Just like in the "WINDOWS" registry you will make the same changes. Once you have implemented your drive your registry should look like this.Now restart your system. Though there is a chance you are completely finished I highly suggest running a command prompt session and typing "sfc /scannow". This will allow your system to scan for any conflicts in the internal settings and fix them.
