Restore Users Folder From Windows.old After Multiple System Recoveries?

My laptop was getting BSoDs. I tried a system recovery but after it failed, I brought it to a computer shop where they tried three more reinstalls of Windows 7, and Vista to try fix it. I have four Windows.old files - Windows.old, Windows.old.000, Windows.old.001, Windows.old.002. I want to restore the files from my documents from my first version of Windows 7 but there are no files in the My Documents folder in Windows.old. Is it possible to recover the files.

How can I restrict user from finance department to access share folder in server? just that particular department. What I know I can set in the permission 1by1. But the department has 100 user. Is there anyway to actually set to restrict this 100 user from accessing the share folder in the server?

I am looking for a third party software to allow myself to do all the following, on a networked computer.I am setting up multiple users as local users and not adding them to the domain, but I have added the workstation to domain. I need the users to have internet access.When starting/restarting Windows, I want to auto-logon the users I have set up. I want to load up to the Switch User screen as the default screen on startup.On the switch user screen, I want the user to be able to double click on thier name and go straight to their desktop without prompting for a password. I would like to be able the change the lock screen to the switch user screen, for the: On resume, display logon screen (option) and not log off the current user when it switches from thier desktop to the switch user screen.

We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..

This may be normal, but not normal to me. I just installed Win 7 a few days ago and am still learning after years on XP.When I open System Restore, I only get one restore option, and it's from last night. When I check the block for show more options there is no change even after I close/re-open Sys Restore.Doesn't the system create a new restore point on boot? Doesn't it keep older restore ponts? Also, I want all my files to open with large icons. In many of the folders I can't find a "view" option anywhere/anyway.

I need to create a XP VM on a win764 box that has multiple users. I want all the users on the Windows 7 box to use the same VM. I also need it to automatically login to the VM without asking for credentials from Windows 7 or xp. I've turned off integration and done the "control userpasswords2" thing. When I log in as a new user and start the VM, Windows 7 pops up with a credentials box. Once I enter the username and password and check "remember credentials" it goes fine. I want to eliminate that initial credentials box though.

Recently my computer was attacked by a virus. The virus made it so I couldn't access my C drive at all, but could still use all my start up progams. For some reason it also erased all of my desktop icons, except for diablo2 LOD (don't know why that one was still there....). Anyway, after removing viruses with malware bytes I did a system restore to about 2 weeks prior. After the computer was done everything seemed fine. Computer was running fine etc. My problem is files that were contained in my folders seem to have disappeared.
I know the files are still on the hard drive, but some of my folders disappeared (these are folders I created long before what the restore date was) making me unable to access the files unless I remember their names and can type them in the windows explorer. I discovered the files were still there when running a video game emulator, i clicked open rom, and just typed in the file name of one of my games I couldn't get to through my computer anymore, and it worked, game loaded up. How I can get my folders to come back, so I can easily access the files in them.

I am thinking of upgrading our family's two computer systems, which are about 8 years old. To build/buy a decent computer will cost about $500. Could be done a bit cheaper, but then two computers will double the priceSo, I was thinking.Most modern computers have multiple output video cards. Most computers have multiple USB ports. Would it be possible to plug two keyboards, two mice, and two monitors into one computer and have two people using that computer simultaneously?This should work just fine from a hardware perspective. With USB hubs and multiple video cards, maybe 4 or more people could use the same computer simultaneously. I would like to do this on Windows 7.I come from a UNIX background and this sort of thing is done all the time on UNIX systems, either text mode or graphics mode. The available hardware is very ripe for this type of usage. Its easy to get multiple monitors and multiple keyboard/mouse connected to a computer. Even multiple sound cards. CPUs are powerful and multi-core. Memory is cheap and plentiful. I think this would be a very good use of multi-core CPU

i purchase new computers this year, windows 7. set one up and added several printers using one as the default. when a new user sign on for the first time, there printer is being set to the default printer. how and where can i change this so that when a new user sign on for the first time, they get a pdf printer to be there default

My wife and I like to set different desktop settings and preferences, so we're always switching from one user to the other, without logging off. The only problem we've encountered with this is that anytime a keyboard hotkey is pressed (sometimes other situations) the software launches across both users.
For example, punch the calculator key on one user, the calculator launches on all users. Use the calculator several separate times in one session, many calculator windows will be on the desktop of the other user when a switch is made.
Is there any way to solve this? Without logging off and logging on each time we want to switch users?

I got a simple yet not sure if possible idea. I got the idea when friends come over and I have no second / third / possibly fourth machine for them but since my machine is such an overkill I was thinking about sharing the machine with multiple people. However I am not sure if this is possible and if it is how to.
What I basicly want is: I have 1 central machine , 4 monitors , 4 keyboards , 4 mouses. Each of those require their own login and take part on the central machine.
I forsee the problem for identifying the screen/keyboard/mouse (possibly sound). But maybe it is possible.

We have a union computer that runs on Windows 7. There are 20 + workers that have a personal user account on the computer. As the administrator I am able to setup and connect to a network printer successfully. However, if a worker wants to print, then I have to set up the printer again for his user account and the other 20 some if they want to do print something to. Isnt there an easy way to just setup the printer once so that everyone can use it on this computer, regardless of whos signed in? Once again I am using windows 7.

How can I make a Word document that was saved by a guest user available to all users? Its an interesting family history written by my aging mother. My daughter had to use my laptop while hers was in repair - she loggind in as a guest and saved the word document from an email. I can switch to the guest user and see it there, but I would like to access it from my user account. I am using Windows 7 and Office 2007.
I have fiddled with the document properties, but that didn't help. The document only shows up in libraries if I am logged in as guest.
Microsoft web site has instructions for using a "public" folder, but I don't see one on my computer, and they don't say how to create a public folder or how to move an exisiting document into the public folder.
It doesn't seem like "file sharing" is what I want, because only the one computer is involved. Am I right about that?

I want to use the skydrive app for users on the domain. They would all share this drive in the notification area but log in and out of the drive with each accessing their own files on a windows 7 machine.this will be for clients logging in with an active directory account. Is this possible? use it as secure online storage obviously they would all need a hotmail address.This would be for multiple domain users on the same physical computer? or is there any free alternative that can accomplish the same

My home pc (Windows 7 Ultimate) is part of my business domain, but I also have local user accounts for my wife and kids.
At the login screen there is a icon for the last user that logged in and another labeled "Other Users" for the rest of the users, so that if a different user needs to login they have to select "Other Users" then enter the DOMAIN/USERID and password to logon.
Is there a way to have it show all three users with their icons at the login screen so they can just click their icon and enter their password (all have passwords) to logon. Getting them to enter the DOMAIN/USERID correctly everytime is a challenge since the slash has to go the correct way and the domain name is somewhat long.

I've taken on a migration project for an SMB. They have an ancient application that they use and cannot find a replacement for.
The problem is that the application writes to the root of C: when creating mail merge documents, while this wasn't an issue on XP with the correct permissions its a problem with 7 due to UAC not letting standard users write to that location.
The software vendors have come back with the standard answer "turn UAC off" ... nope .. not prepared to do that.
I've managed to get a copy of the application so I could do some experimenting with Virtual XP mode. While this allows the application to run and create the mail merges correctly it seems to require the creation and setup of a VM every time a new users logs on.
Is there anyway to share a single VM between multiple users or could it be done by assigning published applications to all users on the host?

I like my comp to have only one download location, only 1 temp folder, etc.Regarding users folder I don't know how windows works with these folders, because in every Windows OS I can recall, there have been always multiple folders, even if you set your computer to work with only one user that is you, the absolute and total administrator. Then you can see a default user, a "yourusername" folder, a public folder, an all user folder. Also when installing software sometimes they put their shortcuts into default, sometimes into all and sometimes just in yourusername user folder. Is it safe to delete all folders but the "yourusername" folder? if not, which are the folders you have to keep? Is there a way to make these folders to converge into one? A thing i hate is installing software and not knowing where did it put archives into my computer. I usually check the program files folder, but have seen many times left over folders, some empty some not. Then again the users folder is a mystery to me as if it will keep files from a never used again software forever or not.There is also a Program Data hidden folder.

Since re-installing Windows 7, I can't open the Users folder on my other data drive. The green bar goes almost to the end of the X, then freezes. I've tried leaving it for a couple hours and it's still in the same spot.I've tried disabling the thumbnails and indexing is disabled, still the same.

I have a system with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed on the C: drive and the Users folders moved to the D: drive (per the directions in this tutorial User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation. I have a new motherboard (Asus ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3), CPU (Intel I5-2500k), memory (Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 ), SSD (Corsair Force Series GT 120GB) and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on order that I want to swap into this system. Well, actually, I guess that it is mostly a new system with my old D: data drive, power supply and case.I have a few questions about the best way to go about getting up and running with the least amount of headaches: The new MB has a UEFI BIOS, so does that mean that it will automatically create a GPT style disk on the SSD for the new Windows 7 installation, or is there the option to create a MBR style disk? The reason that I ask, is that I use Macrium Reflect Free to make drive image backups of the C: drive periodically and it doesnot work with GPT disks apparently. My thoughts are to leave all of the data on the D: drive as it is, and do a clean install of Windows 7 on the new SSD after all of the components are swapped out. Would it be better to rename the Users folder on my D: drive, install Windows 7 and use the same tutorial as above to move the Users at this time, thus creating a second version of the Users folder and then delete the new and rename the old, or would it be better to install everything to the new SSD, and then after installation, then move the individual folders and point them to the existing folders on the D: drive? Is there a difference in moving Users folders during installation and moving after installation? It looks to me like the move during installation moves the ProgramData folder as well. For those that do clean re-installs, is there a good generic way to preserve application preferences/configurations/settings for installed applications and then be able to use them after everything is installed back? If I can use the existing Users folder that is on my D: drive after the install of Windows 7, will this do what I am looking for? System Restore will not create a restore point or restore to a previous date & time.The error message was: A restore point could not be created: An error was detected in the Volume Shadow Copy Server (VSS).The problem occurred while trying to contact VSS writers. Verify that the Event System Sevice and the VSS service are running & check for associated errors in the event logs (0x80042318).Volume Shadow Copy is started & running (done in system events).Event System Sevice and the VSS service are started and running. But no cigar, SR still broken.

Does anyone know how to schedule/automate a rollback to a system restore point at a set time each day?What i'm trying to do is:1. Disable the standard system restore behavior for creating restore points when installing apps and drivers.2. Automatically/schedule a restore point to be created every morning. (probably using Task Scheduler)3. Automatically/schedule a rollback to that morning restore point every night.This should allow users to mess up the workstation during the day, and restore a working rollback point at night when users are not using a workstation.Updates are scheduled at nighttime, so before that happens, it should rollback to a good restore point, apply updates, then create a working "new" restore point with the updates in the morning....etc.

I have a 2TB drive that is split into 2 partitions, Partition A has a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate on it, Partition B is a copy of all the info from my old hard drive. For some reason the Windows 7 install Users folder with all the data in it is being copied to the WindowsDocuments & Settings folder of the old data. Also another weird thing is if I delete any of the mirrored files from Partition B x:WindowsDocuments & SettingsXXXX on they will also be removed from Partition A's x:UsersXXXX. Its driving me a little crazy, if anyone knows what could be happening please let me know whats going on. One more thing, I have unmounted Partition B to see if the files are sym linked from Partition A, but it doesn't seem like the folders are sym linked as the files still accessible while Partition B is unmounted. One more thing is that the only data being replicated is the Primary User account and everything that resides in it.

I took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.

Long story short, my HD is acting up on a 2 week old laptop, I've heard some clicking noises coming from it. I spoke with the retailer and agreed to swap it for me with a new laptop. I don't have the time to reinstall a fresh Windows 7, do the countless hours of updates, and then install the programs I need.
Is it possible I can make a restore point using Windows 7 of the current laptop, save the restore point on an external hard disk, and then when I get my new laptop, I can use the restore point saved on the external hard disk. Therefore, I don't need to do all the updates, reinstall a fresh Windows OS, and install my previous programs I need.

For reasons I had to reinstall windows. I have to drives, a SSD and a HDD. The ssd got wiped but the HDD is still as it used to be. I have done with junctions so that programfiles,users and programdata are all on the HDD instead of the system drive SSD. Everything would be nice and dandy if I would still have the same C:Users*username* as before, but for some reason i now have C:users*username.username-pc.000* The -pc.000 came with the new installation and i do not need nor want it. Is there a way to make my computer think that C:users*username* is my userfolder?

While I was searching for something, my C:/users folder disappeared.So my desktop lost all its folders and some icons and shortcuts. And of course I had no 'Documents' folder, etc.I then discovered that I had no System Restore points (I've created some now).I finally managed to work out that somehow 'show hidden filles and folders' had been un-ticked.So I ticked that option, and now all the missing items are back - but they're all 'pale' and all the icons within those folders are 'pale' as well.What does this mean? I can open the files and folders.
