How To Restrict Multiple Users Access For Shared Folder In Server
Feb 4, 2013
How can I restrict user from finance department to access share folder in server? just that particular department. What I know I can set in the permission 1by1. But the department has 100 user. Is there anyway to actually set to restrict this 100 user from accessing the share folder in the server?
From virtual xp guest I can't access a shared folder on server 2003 machine.I can access it from windows 7 host. The Host, virtual xp, and server are all on the same workgroup.
I am using windows 7 32 bit . there are 90 users . we have linux server and run an web based application using IE. Internet is accessed through a modem which is connected to the same hub which uses the web based application.
so everyone is having an access to the internet. How do i restrict the internet facility to only to 3 or 4 users.
My Win 7 have 4 admin accounts and my account is one of them. I tried to protect all my folders and files stored under C:UsersMyAccount folder by selecting the "Share with.." => "Nobody" option, but the other admins can still access my folder. Also, I can access theirs too.
How to Restrict Folder Access to ONLY ONE Administrator under Win 7" if there are multip admin accounts on Win 7.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium and I am usually the sole user and administrator on the computer. I want to create a Guest account or Standard User account with restricted access so that it cannot do the following:
(1) Access My Documents (not the standard folder but one I created)
(2) Access the internal backup drive E:
(3) Change system settings.
It all looks very complicated and I am not at all sure what to do. Is there any way to do the above with Home Premium?
Or if none of that is possible in Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is there a program that allows me to prevent other users accessing specified folders/drives?
I have a windows 7 pc that is part of an office network along with about 5 other machines. They are all supposed to connect to a server via network mapping of the server's shared folder. (In this case the mapping is Z:\pi-serverdata and the server is running 2008 R2 on a workgroup). Upon reboot, all systems but one will remap to this drive with no problem.
The one machine will always boot up with the message 'Windows could not reconnect network drives' The mapping is showing in windows explorer but there is a red 'x' icon showing the connection is lost. When I click on it, it prompts for windows credentials, which I enter and then it remaps with no problems. However upon next boot the same thing happens again. No matter what I try I cannot get the system to retain the credentials.
What I have tried so far: 1. Ensuring that there is a match of user names and passwords on the server and workstation. 2. Deleting the mapping and re-adding it. 3. Running a batch file to delay the mapping in order for windows to finish connecting the network first.
I would like to be able to browse to the network folder via network discovery through the workgroup but this particular machine does not have the server show up in the network listing (all other machines do show the server). Plus when pinging the server, it insists on responding with ipv6 unless I force a v4 ping...not sure it's relevant.
i want to check why my bandwith is overloaded. I have server on my own computer, and want to check what exactly users are downloading from it, is there any program for it?
My laptop was getting BSoDs. I tried a system recovery but after it failed, I brought it to a computer shop where they tried three more reinstalls of Windows 7, and Vista to try fix it. I have four Windows.old files - Windows.old, Windows.old.000, Windows.old.001, Windows.old.002. I want to restore the files from my documents from my first version of Windows 7 but there are no files in the My Documents folder in Windows.old. Is it possible to recover the files.
I have Windows 7 Professional x64.My pictures are located in this folder: L:Users<name>My Pictures
I want to share this folder with another user on my computer. Can't do it.
Simply altering the folder's permissions doesn't work. If I change permissions so that the folder in question does not inherit any permissions from parent folders, and instead allow my user read-only access to the folder...access denied.
Alright then, I tried to share the folder with my user. Although sharing usually means sharing with other computers on a network, it also applies to other users on the same machine. But the user can't access the shared folder...access denied.
I could move the folder in question to the Public user, but then everyone can see it. Holy cow...what does it take to share a folder with another user on the same computer?
Recently a few computers in our domain has switched to Win 7 from Win XP. Now after sharing folder shared folder are not visible while accessing that computer from our Win CE device. Windows XP or Win 7 users can browse shared folders but not WinCE device.Media Streaming, Network discovery, File sharing is Off. Firewall is turn off.
I have just created a VHD on my laptop so I can share is as a shared area as I have over 5 computers in my house. I want the whole household to have access to the drive but not to a folder that i own as it contains private stuff. How would I go about protecting a folder from being accessed without the correct password and username. Or maybe, how would i go about stopping the folder from being accessed from the whole network but being able to access it on the local machine?
I have 4 worstations in the same HomeGroup I can access the files of workstation 1 from the two workstations but the 3th one in the 3th one the the shared folder appears but when I try to aceess the files inside I get an error can't acess contact administrator the pasword protection is disabled in the workstation 1 and I can access the files from the other two workstations so I have no clue what is going on I have disabled the firewall and Norton IS on both workstations but still can't access the content of the sahred folder
I'm trying to access a shared folder on my windows xp machine. i went to map network drive, use different credentials, and typed in the account name and password that i had given rights to on the other computer. but it just reprompted for different credentials.as a temporary fix i created a user on this computer with the exact same credentials as the ones i typed in, and it works for that user. so apparently the computer didnt understand what i typed in for 'use different credentials'?
Ive been using an official release of Win7 before it was even available on the main market (Deal through the science departments of my and other universities) and this problem has been bothering me for a while. Windows 7 INSISTS on sharing my "Users" folder all the time. It states explicitly, when you click on the "What are the public folders?" link within the Network Sharing center in CP, that it wont allow you to immediately share Windows System folders (It mentions the Users folder as being one) or an entire Drive such as C: and it doesn't recommend doing this either. It says this, but it still decides to share the Users folder without asking.
Heres the specifics::I can right click on the Users folder and go to properties and then the sharing tab. It will be listed as Shared. I then go to Advanced Sharing. I go to Permissions and completely Remove "Everyone" from this list and then uncheck Share this folder and hit apply. It successfully becomes unshared and is unlisted on my network.I can then choose another folder such as one on my desktop, in my "My Documents" folder, or something similar, and go to its sharing Tab and choose to share it. Works just fine and only that folder becomes shared and is listed.HOWEVER - If I choose a folder in a location such as those previously mentioned and right click it and go to share with and choose "Homegroup (Read)", it shares my ENTIRE Users directory. Not just that folder.
I want to make it so Users folder NEVER becomes listed on the network EVER unless I explicitly tell it to. This is one of the ways I feel WinXP was better , I didnt do this crap. I do have password protected sharing turned on, yes - and no one will be able to just access it on a wim. But I still am cautious (I connect on campus networks all the time) and granted a little OCD about things doing stuff I didnt request to be done, but I feel like it shouldn't be this hard to make work.On a side note: Im checking it using my laptop to see this happen. The thing is, they both have the same login ID and password (though the computer-name is different). Because of this when I go to open Users on my desktop from my laptop, it doesnt request the PW where as it would if my brother tried it from his desktop. Im thinking maybe the listing of ALL folders under Users is showing up for this reason? But the permissions are set for (Administrators (NAME-PCNAME)) where as my laptop is (NAME-LTNAME) for example. So Im reluctant to think thats part of the reason since I feel it should be differentiating folder list options because of differing computer-name IDs.
I have few computer at home with different Windows version, there are Windows XP, Windows Vista HP 32 bit and Windows 7 HP 64 bit. I have two share folder in the desktop using Windows Vista HP 32 bit, Share A is set to Full Control for Everyone and Share B has a permission access setting, allow few persons to access only. All computer can access Share A without problem. However, there is a problem with Share B. I only allow 3 users to access this share folder, 2 of them using laptop with Windows XP Home and Professional, they can access Share B without problem, the 3rd user using laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit (username is Jolene) can't access Share B, it shown "You have no permission to access...". I already double check the user name and password, there are correct. I try to login to the network using Jolene in other laptop with Windows XP, it can access both Share A and B. That means the username and the permission setting are correct in the Windows Vista desktop. I removed the anti virus in Windows 7 HP laptop, disable Windows firewall, or bootup in Safe mode with network support, but still can't access Share B.
I have 10 pcs on a LAN workgroup. They are mixed Windows 7 and xp. I have set the file sharing, net discovery etc on win 7 on and password protection, firewall off. They all have user accounts like pc1, pc2,...pc10 and I have also created the account of the pc I want to access the restricted folder to the pc that shares it.I have set the ownerships on Windows 7 machines too. I can access the folders on XP machines from the Windows 7 successfully. When I try to set a user-restricted shared folder to a Windows 7 pc and access it from XP I fail. It says that I do not have sufficient rights to access the folder, contact the network admin. I can only access to the folder by setting it available to "everyone" or "guest" read/write but that s not what I want.
I work in a domain environment administering a large number of workstations running Windows 7 enterprise. I want to restrict regular users from shutting down their PCs so that I can perform remote administrative tasks without walking out on the floor and ensuring all 300 + machines are actually turned on. I do not have rights to the domain controller so I cannot assign by group policy. I can use psexec or ntrights to remove shutdown options from explorer but users can still initiate the shutdown command via cmd and pressing the power button on the tower still invokes a shutdown. Note: I am not talking about a cold shutdown i.e holding the power button (I can't actually do anything about that). So is there a way (perhaps in the registry) to disable the shutdown command for all users except the local administrator? I'll need to do this to over 300 PCs so if it can be done via script of command line that would be best
Does anyone know how to restrict users from installing software in windows xp mode, as far as I can see you cannot restrict users from installing software but interested to see if anyone has managed to do this
Since re-installing Windows 7, I can't open the Users folder on my other data drive. The green bar goes almost to the end of the X, then freezes. I've tried leaving it for a couple hours and it's still in the same spot.I've tried disabling the thumbnails and indexing is disabled, still the same.
Some folders in my computer are blocked as in i cannot modify their content only read them. When accessing the security tab it shows that my user (which is suppose to be the only one on the computer) has limited access and some users which i consider bogus (they have names like S-347373-26262 etc.) have full accessTried formatting they are still there
We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems. The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system. Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening. My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I am trying to allow only certain computers on my HomeNetwork to access a network drive. My router is a BT HomeHub 3 and thecomputers are all connected by ethernet cables, the computer I don't want tohave access is wireless. The network drive is connected to the network using aUSB on the HomeHub. I can access the network drive OK on all the computers, butI don't want the wireless computer to have access. I have tried and tried towork it out, nut the more I look the more confused I get. I'm sure there mustbe an easy way to this problem. Any help will stop me having sleepless nightsthinking of how to do it.
I need to restrict internet access to windows 7 administrator account. JUDGE ORDERED THIS. PROBATION OFFICER NEEDS TO BE SHOWN. I have a computer savvy kid. Is there any foolproof way to do this? I changed my security network key. Somehow he figured it out. It is becoming a "You can't limit my access" power stuggle even though the stakes are high. He needs his computer for homework and writing assignments or I would just take it away.
I recently made a folder to share with an XP machine. When I look at the network through my seven machine I see the folder I shared and the USERS folder shared as well. Why is that? I have the network setup at a home network. 7100 32 bit.
I haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.
I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.
I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
My wife and I like to set different desktop settings and preferences, so we're always switching from one user to the other, without logging off. The only problem we've encountered with this is that anytime a keyboard hotkey is pressed (sometimes other situations) the software launches across both users.
For example, punch the calculator key on one user, the calculator launches on all users. Use the calculator several separate times in one session, many calculator windows will be on the desktop of the other user when a switch is made.
Is there any way to solve this? Without logging off and logging on each time we want to switch users?
I got a simple yet not sure if possible idea. I got the idea when friends come over and I have no second / third / possibly fourth machine for them but since my machine is such an overkill I was thinking about sharing the machine with multiple people. However I am not sure if this is possible and if it is how to.
What I basicly want is: I have 1 central machine , 4 monitors , 4 keyboards , 4 mouses. Each of those require their own login and take part on the central machine.
I forsee the problem for identifying the screen/keyboard/mouse (possibly sound). But maybe it is possible.
I need to create a XP VM on a win764 box that has multiple users. I want all the users on the Windows 7 box to use the same VM. I also need it to automatically login to the VM without asking for credentials from Windows 7 or xp. I've turned off integration and done the "control userpasswords2" thing. When I log in as a new user and start the VM, Windows 7 pops up with a credentials box. Once I enter the username and password and check "remember credentials" it goes fine. I want to eliminate that initial credentials box though.
We have a union computer that runs on Windows 7. There are 20 + workers that have a personal user account on the computer. As the administrator I am able to setup and connect to a network printer successfully. However, if a worker wants to print, then I have to set up the printer again for his user account and the other 20 some if they want to do print something to. Isnt there an easy way to just setup the printer once so that everyone can use it on this computer, regardless of whos signed in? Once again I am using windows 7.
How can I make a Word document that was saved by a guest user available to all users? Its an interesting family history written by my aging mother. My daughter had to use my laptop while hers was in repair - she loggind in as a guest and saved the word document from an email. I can switch to the guest user and see it there, but I would like to access it from my user account. I am using Windows 7 and Office 2007.
I have fiddled with the document properties, but that didn't help. The document only shows up in libraries if I am logged in as guest.
Microsoft web site has instructions for using a "public" folder, but I don't see one on my computer, and they don't say how to create a public folder or how to move an exisiting document into the public folder.
It doesn't seem like "file sharing" is what I want, because only the one computer is involved. Am I right about that?
