I am using windows 7 32 bit . there are 90 users . we have linux server and run an web based application using IE. Internet is accessed through a modem which is connected to the same hub which uses the web based application.
so everyone is having an access to the internet. How do i restrict the internet facility to only to 3 or 4 users.
How can I restrict user from finance department to access share folder in server? just that particular department. What I know I can set in the permission 1by1. But the department has 100 user. Is there anyway to actually set to restrict this 100 user from accessing the share folder in the server?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI work in a domain environment administering a large number of workstations running Windows 7 enterprise. I want to restrict regular users from shutting down their PCs so that I can perform remote administrative tasks without walking out on the floor and ensuring all 300 + machines are actually turned on. I do not have rights to the domain controller so I cannot assign by group policy. I can use psexec or ntrights to remove shutdown options from explorer but users can still initiate the shutdown command via cmd and pressing the power button on the tower still invokes a shutdown. Note: I am not talking about a cold shutdown i.e holding the power button (I can't actually do anything about that). So is there a way (perhaps in the registry) to disable the shutdown command for all users except the local administrator? I'll need to do this to over 300 PCs so if it can be done via script of command line that would be best

I am trying to allow only certain computers on my HomeNetwork to access a network drive. My router is a BT HomeHub 3 and thecomputers are all connected by ethernet cables, the computer I don't want tohave access is wireless. The network drive is connected to the network using aUSB on the HomeHub. I can access the network drive OK on all the computers, butI don't want the wireless computer to have access. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Home Premium and I am usually the sole user and administrator on the computer. I want to create a Guest account or Standard User account with restricted access so that it cannot do the following:
(1) Access My Documents (not the standard folder but one I created)
(2) Access the internal backup drive E:
(3) Change system settings.
It all looks very complicated and I am not at all sure what to do. Is there any way to do the above with Home Premium?
Or if none of that is possible in Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is there a program that allows me to prevent other users accessing specified folders/drives?
Since re-installing Windows 7, I can't open the Users folder on my other data drive. The green bar goes almost to the end of the X, then freezes. I've tried leaving it for a couple hours and it's still in the same spot.I've tried disabling the thumbnails and indexing is disabled, still the same.

- Disable, then enable my wireless card and reconnect.
- Uninstall the card, then re-install and reconnect.
- Disconnect from the internet myself and reconnect.
Either way it gets super frustrating. There is 1 other computer plugged directly into the router that does not experience any issues. In addition, I have 1 laptop (windows 7) that works great and 1 laptop (Windows XP) which works great.
i can not acces to my information and when i logged in a message appeared and it said that all my information would be deleated when i log off, it is what i did, i clicked in my profile properties and then i clicked in the security tab and i clicked in edit then i marked all in deny because i wanted to make private all my information but then it happened all that im describing. anyway, after charging it up and turning it on, i started to install programmes and other bits and bobs. e.g ituens, flash player. just the usual essentials. i used the laptop to watch videos on Internet, genenral browing such as facebook, so in short, the internet was working fine. just before i went to bed that night i installed avg security (free version) and ran a full scan. when the scan finished, i put the laptop into hibernate, and went to sleep! happy in the knowledge my new gizmo was running smoothly!
just before i woke up i heard the laptop turn off as it had run out of charge. so i plugged it in and charged it up, then turned it on. this is where the problem starts...i connected via wifi however the logo at the bottom right of the screen showed the signal strength meter on empty, with a yellow star covering it. i clicked the icon, and it said, 'not connected, connections are available' and below shows im connected with 5/5 signal strength, but on 'limited access'.
1) there might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter
2)there might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter
there are 28 updates, but im unable to update them as i have no internet connection. i also cant connect via the ethernet cable.i cant roll back the drivers as there are no previously installed ones, and i cant update them as i am already up to date.my other laptop (acer aspire 5630 running on vista) works perfectly fine using wifi and the ethernet cable, so i honestly dont know whats wrong. after reading things on my acer about ways to fix the problem i came to the decision to restore the laptop to the time of my first installation which was adobe flash player (which i installed the day before.) i was unable to do a full factory reset as the only options available are to either restore to a backup, or re-install windows (which requires a disc, which i dont have). i also didnt configure a backup as i had only had the laptop a day!
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110, Intel core 3 processor, and Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit os. I have recently reinstalled windows 7 from the windows 8 os. I can't access my wireless internet, I can only get to the internet via hard wire. I have searched Dell and Intel for the network controller driver and the sm bus controller driver, but to no avail.

I tried explaining him why being a java developer and linux user does not make you qualified to solve these kind of problems, but he didn't want to listen.I tried using ethernet, booting into safe mode, removing 0.0.0.0 route, winsockfix and reseting ip stack, disabling ipv6, removing network card, reinstalling netowork drivers, scanning with security essentials and some malware scanners. Although he told me that he tried installing Dr Web and it failed so it may be some sort of virus/malware/rootkit that was undetected by both security essentials and various rootkit/malware applications (Malwarebyte's anti-malware, tdskiller)DHCP does not seem to be working so I had to specify settings by hand. I can ping to router and other local machines but that's about it. I can't event load html/php from router. DNS does not work either. Pinging ISP DNS fails with: "PING: transmit failed. General failure.".
