From virtual xp guest I can't access a shared folder on server 2003 machine.I can access it from windows 7 host.The Host, virtual xp, and server are all on the same workgroup.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to share a folder on my computer (N:TV, where N is an internal hard disk) on my local area network. Two media centers connect to this folder. Until this week, they connected just fine using no username or password. Suddenly, they want to know a password -- and even entering my Windows credentials (my user account being the only one on the machine), access is denied.
I've selected the folder I want to share, and viewed its properties. It's shared with Everyone for reading. I can access the folder by opening \Mycomputer\TV in Explorer.Network discovery is turned off. File and printer sharing is turned on. Password protected sharing is turned off. All three machines are in the same workgroup.
I have a windows 7 pc that is part of an office network along with about 5 other machines. They are all supposed to connect to a server via network mapping of the server's shared folder. (In this case the mapping is Z:\pi-serverdata and the server is running 2008 R2 on a workgroup). Upon reboot, all systems but one will remap to this drive with no problem.
The one machine will always boot up with the message 'Windows could not reconnect network drives' The mapping is showing in windows explorer but there is a red 'x' icon showing the connection is lost. When I click on it, it prompts for windows credentials, which I enter and then it remaps with no problems. However upon next boot the same thing happens again. No matter what I try I cannot get the system to retain the credentials.
What I have tried so far:
1. Ensuring that there is a match of user names and passwords on the server and workstation.
2. Deleting the mapping and re-adding it.
3. Running a batch file to delay the mapping in order for windows to finish connecting the network first.
I would like to be able to browse to the network folder via network discovery through the workgroup but this particular machine does not have the server show up in the network listing (all other machines do show the server). Plus when pinging the server, it insists on responding with ipv6 unless I force a v4 ping...not sure it's relevant.

I want to share this folder with another user on my computer. Can't do it.
Simply altering the folder's permissions doesn't work. If I change permissions so that the folder in question does not inherit any permissions from parent folders, and instead allow my user read-only access to the folder...access denied.
Alright then, I tried to share the folder with my user. Although sharing usually means sharing with other computers on a network, it also applies to other users on the same machine. But the user can't access the shared folder...access denied.
I could move the folder in question to the Public user, but then everyone can see it. Holy cow...what does it take to share a folder with another user on the same computer?
Recently a few computers in our domain has switched to Win 7 from Win XP. Now after sharing folder shared folder are not visible while accessing that computer from our Win CE device. Windows XP or Win 7 users can browse shared folders but not WinCE device.Media Streaming, Network discovery, File sharing is Off. Firewall is turn off.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to access a shared folder on my windows xp machine. i went to map network drive, use different credentials, and typed in the account name and password that i had given rights to on the other computer. but it just reprompted for different credentials.as a temporary fix i created a user on this computer with the exact same credentials as the ones i typed in, and it works for that user. so apparently the computer didnt understand what i typed in for 'use different credentials'?

I have two share folder in the desktop using Windows Vista HP 32 bit, Share A is set to Full Control for Everyone and Share B has a permission access setting, allow few persons to access only. All computer can access Share A without problem. However, there is a problem with Share B. I only allow 3 users to access this share folder, 2 of them using laptop with Windows XP Home and Professional, they can access Share B without problem, the 3rd user using laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit (username is Jolene) can't access Share B, it shown "You have no permission to access...". I already double check the user name and password, there are correct. I try to login to the network using Jolene in other laptop with Windows XP, it can access both Share A and B. That means the username and the permission setting are correct in the Windows Vista desktop. I removed the anti virus in Windows 7 HP laptop, disable Windows firewall, or bootup in Safe mode with network support, but still can't access Share B.

I have set the file sharing, net discovery etc on win 7 on and password protection, firewall off.They all have user accounts like pc1, pc2,...pc10 and I have also created the account of the pc I want to access the restricted folder to the pc that shares it.I have set the ownerships on Windows 7 machines too. I can access the folders on XP machines from the Windows 7 successfully. When I try to set a user-restricted shared folder to a Windows 7 pc and access it from XP I fail. It says that I do not have sufficient rights to access the folder, contact the network admin. I can only access to the folder by setting it available to "everyone" or "guest" read/write but that s not what I want.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had a Windows workgroup for years, linking PCs and Macs as well as a Linkstation Network Drive through a Time Capsule Router/Hard Drive Combo. Immediately after upgrading from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z750D, I can see the Time Capsule and MacBook but can not access the MacBook Pro. I am able to access the Linkstation and the Time Capsule. However, the system does not ask me for a username and password when I try to access the MacBook Pro, and I get an error message that Windows cannot access the MacBook. The problem seems to be on the Windows 7 end, for I am able to access the Sony on the MacBook Pro.
The workgroup name is the same on all computers. I had to reset the workgroup name on the Sony, because for some reason the Windows 7 upgrade renamed the workgroup name to WORKGROUP without asking. I reset it to the name used on all our mchines. The only variable changed is the Windows 7 upgrade.
I have a WIN7 Home Prem and an XP in a network workgroup.I have an HP offricejet J6450 an an HP laserjet1320 directly attached to the WIN 7 machine. Printer sharing is ON for both. The XP can access shared files on WIN7 and can use the J6450 printer. But I cannot get access to the Laserjet 1320.

I didn't use home group because i don't like it, so i configured everything manually and everything worked great, file sharing. printer sharing, everything. And then I added a password to my user on the new laptop to protect it and the sharing between the laptop and the two other computers stopped working. when i try to access the laptop from another computer it reports i have no access, and when i try to access one of the computers from the laptop it asks for a user name and password.i uninstalled firewall - didn't help. reinstalled. i removed the password - problem solved. added password again - problem returns.

Through various trial/error I have determined I can't access the workgroup from both the Windows 7 and xp on either streamer. In other words, both streamers should be able to access workgroup on my network and neither can. I have tried resetting the router, both pc's, streamers etc. All files/folders set to share. I am not an expert but it seems since both streamers can't access my workgroup, the problem might be with windows.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.
I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.
I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
What am I doing wrong here?
wants me to look into an alternative way for her network faxing. She has a system where you email the fax and use the number as the mailing address to send them. she doesnt want to do it like that anymore and doesnt want to pay for a service. but she is willing to buy hardware and/or software. She basically wants to have a virtual faxing server.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever I move folders from my shared folders ( Users/public/public documents for example) it copies the files instead of just simply moving them. The folders are on the same hard drive/partition so there does not seem to be any reason it should start doing this. I dont know what I could have changed on the computer to cause this to happen either. it is quite a frustrating problem however because large files take a while to transfer when they should be moved instantly.

The problem that I am having is this:When i open up the shared c: drive on a windows xp computer, and open a folder to view files, it only shows 122 out of the 227 files.when i open up the c: drive on the windwos 7 machine, i can see all 227 files.when i open up excel or word, and open a file that is stored on the windows 7 machine, it will open fine, but when i try and browse for the file that is stored on the windows 7 machine, it does not show it.now here is the interesting thing:when i open up the shared c: drive on another computer running windows 7, (not the server) i can see all 227 files and have no problems.i have multiple folders, ex: mypics2008, mypics2009, mypics2010, mypics2001, mydocs2000, mydocs2010, all shared off of the c: drive on the windows 7 server. this problem started a few weeks ago, i was able to see all the files in every shared folder off of the windows 7 server through all of the windows xp pr machines a month ago, and all of a sudden in the past few weeks, i am no longer able to see all of the files shared off of the server.i have rebuilt the index on the windows 7 server i have removed and redone ALL security, and sharing settings i have checked, rechecked and checked again all the file sharing settings I am stumped, and i consider myself knowledgable with computers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI explain how frustrating this has been...Ok, so just a very brief back story, my job has a shared Toshiba file, where all scanned documents, and received faxes can be viewed as PDFs. Everything was fine until my computer (Windows XP) crashed, and I rebooted it with Windows 7. Everything else has been fine, but resetting up this file has been a nightmare. After about 15 calls, someone was finally able to create a folder that worked yesterday, however today it is back to the drawing board. , the folder that was set up was NOT the same one that my co-workers use, which is fine as long as I can access the data, but for whatever reason it is not working...I don't know if it has to do with the network path, the file name, or what.
Now, I am definitely hooked up to the network, and I definitely have network discovery on. Password protect is not on so that anyone can view the shared documents. If it makes any difference, the printer/copier/fax machine/scanner is a Toshiba E-Studio202L machine. When I click homegroup/sharing options, everything is checked off...I really do not know what the problem is, as the documents are just not getting forwarded to my folder (or any folder).
How do i stop my personal folder from being shared? I am not part of a homegroup.Under the advanced tab, sharing is not ticked and the 'share with' is set to nobody.

Password protected sharing is enabled on both. I shared a folder on computer 1, and added Everyone to the security tab, with full control.
When i try to map the folder from computer 2, I can see computer 1 listed. But when I click on the + next to it, it asks for a username and password (which I did not expect to be necessary since they are both the same user account and password) and when I enter it it says Logon Unsuccessful.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA week ago I had to reinstall Windows 7 on a second PC (PC2) which now has an SSD. However, the original disk (a 500GB Seagate) has been used to reorganise partitions of which there are now eight. Three of these I can access from PC1 with no problem. However, the last four plus a 1TB drive there is no way I can access them - I can look at them but there's no way I can copy any files or folders to them.I've checked the drive permissions via the Security tab and set everything I can to Full Control. However, out of the five there is one Name I cannot change and that is CREATOR OWNER which has permissions set to Special and which so far I've found no way of changing. In relation to the Names they are a little different to mine. All five are the same except that PC2 has CREATOR OWNER. I have Authenticated Users that PC2 doesn't have; none of PC2's drives have an Authenticated Users entry. Should it?
To clarify the Names we both have they are listed below:
PC1
Administrators (Username/Administrator)
Authenticated Users
Everyone
SYSTEM

I've just checked a third PC we have upstairs and that is different again most drives ONLY having Everyone with only one drive having the Names above under PC1 but NOT Everyone. So I suppose that makes me one confused chick. What the hell gives with the Names Groups? What should I have and what should I NOT have or not need?
