View 0 RepliesI'm running Windows 7 64 bit (Ultimate). My build number 7600. I use the feature "Restore Previous Folder Windows at login". The window Explorer comes back up when I reboot. However, unlike WindowsXP, the window(s) come up at a different location and different size.
This is frustrating to me. I have a computer that I run lots of "test" software. I like to have 3-different Windows Explorer running at the same time. I have them at a specific size and location on my monitor for a reason. But like I explained earlier, at each boot up, everything is messed up.
System Restore will not create a restore point or restore to a previous date & time. The error message was: A restore point could not be created: An error was detected in the Volume Shadow Copy Server (VSS).The problem occurred while trying to contact VSS writers. Verify that the Event System Sevice and the VSS service are running & check for associated errors in the event logs (0x80042318).Volume Shadow Copy is started & running (done in system events).Event System Sevice and the VSS service are started and running. But no cigar, SR still broken.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop. In my experience, Toshiba has one of the worst system recovery modules which takes ages to restore. To avoid this issue, I restored my machine to factory settings, deleted crapware, updated and backed up using the tool built into Windows 7.Now after a while, I successfully messed up the system that it takes 5 minutes to boot and is as slow as a turtle. I am considering system restore using the backup I made on external HDD.My question is, if I restore using this backup, - Will it delete ALL the data put on this machine AFTER the backup was made?- Will it completely restore SYSTEM to the backup settings? i.e. deleting the folders and registry entries added by the programs installed

View 3 Replies View RelatedRestore system settings and previous versions of file is greyed out on my system, I may have disabled a required service for this. As I'm about to try the X-Fi MB2 mod again as the last time I tried it my system was messed up that it wont even recognize my actual X-Fi card properly. So I'm thinking a system restore can work with this experiment.

my Windows 7 professional install seemed kind of lame after some years so I decided to install a new and clean one. I noted down the product-ID from my computers properties because I thought that was the key (right next to it it says change key, so I thought that must be the key). After the new install I realied that it is not equivalent to the key as the ID has less letters. Is there a chance to get the key from the "old" folder that is generated if you install a new windows over an old one?Or is there a chance to get to the key from the product ID? because I have no clue where I put the key..

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis may be normal, but not normal to me. I just installed Win 7 a few days ago and am still learning after years on XP.When I open System Restore, I only get one restore option, and it's from last night. When I check the block for show more options there is no change even after I close/re-open Sys Restore.Doesn't the system create a new restore point on boot? Doesn't it keep older restore ponts? Also, I want all my files to open with large icons. In many of the folders I can't find a "view" option anywhere/anyway.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently my computer was attacked by a virus. The virus made it so I couldn't access my C drive at all, but could still use all my start up progams. For some reason it also erased all of my desktop icons, except for diablo2 LOD (don't know why that one was still there....). Anyway, after removing viruses with malware bytes I did a system restore to about 2 weeks prior. After the computer was done everything seemed fine. Computer was running fine etc. My problem is files that were contained in my folders seem to have disappeared.
I know the files are still on the hard drive, but some of my folders disappeared (these are folders I created long before what the restore date was) making me unable to access the files unless I remember their names and can type them in the windows explorer. I discovered the files were still there when running a video game emulator, i clicked open rom, and just typed in the file name of one of my games I couldn't get to through my computer anymore, and it worked, game loaded up. How I can get my folders to come back, so I can easily access the files in them.
i have a folder on my external drive with lots of subfolders and files inside ful of work i need to get at. but for some reason all of the permissions on that folder and its subfiles are denying me access. i can see the files and folders but i cannot open the files. i can go into every folder but again i just cannot to open any file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recent backups (using Macrium Reflect) of both my Vista install and my Windows 7 install, and BOTH are still resident on the main hard drive.Problem is that since the Mobo is LONG out of production, I've bit the bullet and will be replacing is with a new Mobo, processor, memory, audio, and video hardware (new Mobos come with the latter builtin). That means I can't simply plugin the drive, reboot, and be up and working.I've read some info on Paragon's Virtualization Manager -- which appears to be able to migrate an install from one set of hardware to another -- but I'm guessing you need to do the "from" migration first, which I can't do because my machine is dead.
1) Migration -- apart from reinstalling from scratch, is there any way to resurrect my previous install?
2) Installation -- I have both the 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 Pro DVDs, and am thinking about installing using the 64-bit. Have read the post about doing a clean install using an "upgrade" DVD (which mine is), so I presume that will go well -- as long as I don't enter a product key.
3) Reactivation -- I'm presuming this will fail (since I already activated the 32-bit version) -- but will an online attempt, or call to MS, take care of this for me? Or am I facing the prospect of having to buy a new copy of Windows 7 Pro?
I re-installed Windows 7 from (C: ) to (D: ) and it had left program files, program files (x86), and windows. I was able to find a command prompt that changed the ownership of the files and allowed me to delete the proram files but it will not work on the windows folder
