I had windows seven and upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and when I save files it goes to drive d when I download files and save some thing it save but I have old files from the other windows seven and the other windows seven is deleted but the files are still in drive c not my new one.
View 1 RepliesRecently my wife caught a virus on her computer (HP touchsmart windows 7 home premium). Your typical virus program that sends hundreds of pop up screens and says click this for full removal, blah blah blah. Anyways I used malwarebytes to see if the program could be removed, malwarebytes found 5 problems and I removed them. Afterward I noticed that there were no icons on the screen, I tried to bring up task manager and the computer rebooted. once the computer rebooted, there was a black screen with "no operating system found".
I tried the "repair your computer" option on the Windows 7 disk, but it was not able to repair the problem automatically, I also tried some manual command scan prompts that I found on the net. None of this has worked so far.
I figured that I would take the hdd out of her computer and dock it to another computer. The hard drive connected fine, but when I tried to open it there was nothing in there. I tried to make sure that all files were not hidden (they weren't). Funny thing is when I click on properties for the drive it shows that the drive is 2/3rds full but I can't see any files or information when I try to search the drive. I also just tried copying the hard drive to another harddrive and it was copying files but once I opened the new location, it was still empty (even thought the folder said in properties 84 gigs).
Is there something that I am missing, I would like to retrieve all of her documents, pictures etc. then I could reformat that drive and re-install windows if I can not get it to boot back up correctly.
Got a new computer today, plugged in my old 500GB hard drive for back up storage. I went into it, can see everything fine, go through the program files, etc...Except I can't find my old documents, pictures, or anything that was saved on my desktop. A search won't even bring it up. How the heck can I get it back?

I also got a new 1TB hard drive while preserving my previous two hard drives which added up to 500GB, keeping them as slaves.I installed Windows 7 Home Premium (my previous OS was Vista), and everything is working fine. However, I would like to clear out the stuff in my previous hard drives because a large portion of the files in the "Program Files" folder is not usable any more, seeing as a large portion of them requires the corresponding registry keys to work (due to a fresh OS install).
My question is this: Do I have to follow any specific procedures when removing these files, or can I just delete them? I don't see how it can cause any harm to my registry since all the keys in the registry for the old files are no longer there.I don't think my computer's specifications are important, but I will gladly provide them if necessary.
For the third time in a week, Windows 7 has replaced some of my personal data files with earlier versions, without my consent, following a restart. I'm talking about my outlook Data file (outlook.pst), my Quicken data files and a few others. Files are located in different places, but mostly in my Documents folder.
There are no errors, no crashes and no warning whatsoever. I just restart the PC and suddenly my data files are overwritten with sometimes days old versions. The first time it happened I assumed that maybe I hadn't properly saved my document(s), but then I noticed it actually WAS replacing current files with earlier versions. I would enter a few days worth of transactions into Quicken, save and even backup the files, only to have it revert back to a file that was saved two days ago after restarting the PC, causing me to have to re-enter all those transactions. Same thing with Outlook - I could add/change/remove appointments in my calendar, only to discover that it went back to an earlier time after the next restart, all changes made would be lost. Just a simple reboot is all it takes - the last time I had to reboot to update a driver. This is completely unexpected & unacceptable behavior. What would cause Windows 7 to do this?
I have installed new windows 7, on my previous windows 7. Till that, I have saved my important files in Local disc D. Windows is installed on local disc C. But previous windows version moved moved to D disk. And my files, that were in D disk, have lost. What can I do for moving back my files, which are very important for me??

I used EasyTransfer to transfer files to the new machine, and the music files are there -- I can see them in Windows Explorer. But WMP is only aware of some of the files. If I double-click a music file in Explorer, WMP will play it, and then it will show up in the library, but I have so many music files that double-clicking, and playing, every single one is not a great option. How do I get WMP to recognize all the files?

I tried re-indexing, but it actually reduced my index from ~3500 to 279 files. I don't understand why it won't find anything.I transferred a lot of folders from my old computer (Vista) to this one via my external hard drive. It will not find any files from those folders. For example, I have MS Word documents from school and even if I open the exact folder its in and search the exact name it won't find any results.
I have an extensive library of public domain books in various folders but I used the search to find things. Now, even if I'm in the exact folder a file is in it won't find it. For example, if a file is named "JJ Blunt, Undesigned Coincidences" and I search that exact phrase while looking at the file in a folder, it will say no results found. If I search "Blunt" or "JJ" the same thing happens.The only thing that has done anything is if I right click an individual file, go to properties, go to details, tell it to remove all personal information, and then it will index and search for it. But I have literally 10s of 1000s of files I want to search, and to do this manually would take at least a full day. Is there any way to make this work?Even more startling, documents I've made with this computer and put into folders from my old computer to maintain my sorting system will not show up either. So the only files it will find are those in folders I've made on this computer and have files made on this computer. Not a single other file will be found.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNearly zero programs, control panel items, sound can be accessed on my child computer. The files are still there but windows says cant find. Some programs still work like Network access, Internet Explorer, explorer, a few downloaded games, superantispyware (which found no virus) Other virus software can't be accessed. Everything works fine in SAFE MODE except sound. Some updates can't be done in safe mode though. No error number pops up. Did I loose a .DLL? Virus? There is a rundll36.exe.mui file I am thinking about removing. I do have 2 copies of the regular rundll.exe file. My computer is English so I don't know why I would need a .mui.?? I have Windows 7 Ultimate x36 HP Tablet. no servicepack, and don't want it.

Sometimes I have to reboot and it shows up but other times it doesn't. I have removed it and pressed it back in its slot to make sure there isn't just a bad connection. When I returned the screen was scrolling in what I'll call dos mode and stating "critical error deleting file. I pulled the plug in panic before I saw what was being deleted and from what drive. I removed the second drive and rebooted no problem. Is there a log that shows what files were being deleted?
