View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has been playing random ads and music, literally out of nowhere. I click out of everything turn off the wifi AND logout and it will still be playing. Its been doing that on and off for months. My other protection expired some months ago, so I got the update last week which was $89. But the 1st thing it said was to "Uninstall the previous security system". So i let it run, and it was "uninstalling" for 3 whole days and then it just stopped, So i tried to manually uninstall the other program, but again it would not. I am not sure what to do now.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBackground: I have a WinXP desktop machine with a hard drive that may have a virus/trojan/rootkit/etc. Normal scans on the WinXP machine with MSE or ThreatFire have not discovered the problem. But the best way to scan a drive is to remove it and treat it as a purely 'dummy' data drive plugged into a usb drive dock and run the scan from a clean machine. This way any infected programs and/or O.S. on the drive will have no control to mask or hide themselves. My other computer is an HP Windows 7 laptop. So I removed the hard drive from the WinXP machine and via the USB drive dock and the Windows 7 laptop saw the WinXP drive icon appear. However, double-clicking that icon results in the popup window message[CODE]

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop. In my experience, Toshiba has one of the worst system recovery modules which takes ages to restore. To avoid this issue, I restored my machine to factory settings, deleted crapware, updated and backed up using the tool built into Windows 7.Now after a while, I successfully messed up the system that it takes 5 minutes to boot and is as slow as a turtle. I am considering system restore using the backup I made on external HDD.My question is, if I restore using this backup, - Will it delete ALL the data put on this machine AFTER the backup was made?- Will it completely restore SYSTEM to the backup settings? i.e. deleting the folders and registry entries added by the programs installed

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recent backups (using Macrium Reflect) of both my Vista install and my Windows 7 install, and BOTH are still resident on the main hard drive.Problem is that since the Mobo is LONG out of production, I've bit the bullet and will be replacing is with a new Mobo, processor, memory, audio, and video hardware (new Mobos come with the latter builtin). That means I can't simply plugin the drive, reboot, and be up and working.I've read some info on Paragon's Virtualization Manager -- which appears to be able to migrate an install from one set of hardware to another -- but I'm guessing you need to do the "from" migration first, which I can't do because my machine is dead.
1) Migration -- apart from reinstalling from scratch, is there any way to resurrect my previous install?
2) Installation -- I have both the 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 Pro DVDs, and am thinking about installing using the 64-bit. Have read the post about doing a clean install using an "upgrade" DVD (which mine is), so I presume that will go well -- as long as I don't enter a product key.
3) Reactivation -- I'm presuming this will fail (since I already activated the 32-bit version) -- but will an online attempt, or call to MS, take care of this for me? Or am I facing the prospect of having to buy a new copy of Windows 7 Pro?
I re-installed Windows 7 from (C: ) to (D: ) and it had left program files, program files (x86), and windows. I was able to find a command prompt that changed the ownership of the files and allowed me to delete the proram files but it will not work on the windows folder

i can see the file i want i just cant get to it! how do i get this to work.
it takes multiple keystrokes of the same key to make "rename file" changes. The first two attempts of a keystroke are wrong. The third is correct and then I need to delete the two previous incorrect letters.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 64 bit (Ultimate). My build number 7600. I use the feature "Restore Previous Folder Windows at login". The window Explorer comes back up when I reboot. However, unlike WindowsXP, the window(s) come up at a different location and different size.
This is frustrating to me. I have a computer that I run lots of "test" software. I like to have 3-different Windows Explorer running at the same time. I have them at a specific size and location on my monitor for a reason. But like I explained earlier, at each boot up, everything is messed up.

While the old computer was being reset, I installed Outlook onto laptop and could merge the old and new .pst files but the calendars, contacts, and rules did not migrate over. I would like to avoid this problem on the desktop computer.
