i went to restore previous versions of this file, but the restore button is greyed out, and when i try to copy the version i want, it says i need administrator privileges to make changes to this file(of course i am using an admin account, and anyways im not trying to change it im trying to copy it)
i can see the file i want i just cant get to it! how do i get this to work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy system tells me that an update is ready for installation. It turns out to be Service Pack1 KB976932. It loads and installs. On reset, the system stalls on �Starting Windows� with that fuzzy MS colors icon on the screen. 10 minutes later I press Alt,CTRL,DEL� nothing happens. I press NumLock, no light change, so I do a hard reboot.��Launch Start Up Repair� is reported. Then �Unable to Start, Searching for problems� as the progress bar indicator sweeps across. It times out and asks �Do you want to Restore�, I hit OK and the progress bar indicator sweeps across again. This goes on for about 15 minutes.�Cannot Repair Automatically� and when I hit OK, the system turns off.On redstart, it boots fully and is probably in the same arrangement as before this whole session. This is the third time I have run through this process.

I'm getting the following error - "The version of this file is not compatible with the the version of windows you're running." I've installed all of these specific applications (e.g. RealPlayer, Logmein, Windows 2007 Compatibility Pck File Format Converter) and many other 32-bit apps on other Windows 7 64-bit machines, including 2 other Lenovo laptops with the exact same specs, purchased at the same time, with absolutely no issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to do a Windows repair install on my desktop. All files are still intact; however, Outlook 2010 is asking to set up from scratch. I have the old .pst file. How do I go about setting up Outlook to use the saved .pst without creating a new one? I have searched online but have had no luck. While the old computer was being reset, I installed Outlook onto laptop and could merge the old and new .pst files but the calendars, contacts, and rules did not migrate over. I would like to avoid this problem on the desktop computer.

I have a situation where Word 2010 does not default back to the previous file location. i.e., I open a file from a particular folder. When I click File, Open, it does not default to that folder location so I can open another file from that location. I have to rebrowse to the folder location.

How do I set up sharing so I can use my computer and not be told I can not do certain things. I am on a home group what ever that is. When I try to share the folders I am told I do not have permission to share that folder. And I do not have permission to share or stop sharing the folder.

i tried everything. completely disabled uac, logged on as "superadmin", gave all permissions that i could think of. but still.
the strange thing is that explorer does not even display the icon correctly. it shows only the "generic" exe icon.
everytime i try to copy the file windows tells me that i do not have the permission to make changes to the file.
btw:
- the file is not broken, nor is the usb stick. i tried it on another Windows 7 machine and it works just fine.
- tried to copy it on D: drive too... same problem.
- zipped the file. copied the zipped file successfully to the drive but when unzipping it the folder is empty without an error message.
- turned off defender and AV. just in case it thinks it's a bad file.
well, i never had this problem before. any ideas?
edit: i forgot to mention that this file on the usb is in the same folder with several other files which i can copy without any problems.
is there anyway i can do this? also i dont know how to do it from the bios i also want to make sure there are no traces of vista and all data is gone.

With my Windows 7 Pro 32bit laptop(fully updated) I have issues with copy and paste. When I copy text from a file/document and then paste it into another file/document I have one of three things happen. One it will copy the text correctly, though if I press enter to go to a new line its as if the clipboard was emptied because I cannot paste again, two it will not paste anything as if I didn't copy before, or three it will paste a screenshot of what is currently on my screen into the document.If it does copy and paste correctly then when I open a new file or folder, the clipboard will empty so I can't paste the same thing into two different documents unless both documents were open when I fist copied the text.This issue also occurs whe trying to copy/cut files and move them to a new/different directory(if the paste location is not already open then the clipboard appears to empty).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI basically copied 276 GB from my hard drive to another external backup drive that is connected via eSATA on my computer. My motherboard and the hard drive support SATA II. File transfer took, I don't know how long I'm guessing 1 1/2 hours.
During the file transfer, my whole system halted to a crawl, well, worse than that. According to my resource manager, the CPU usage wasn't too high, and the RAM usage was 100%, with 15%-25% of my memory being used for "Standby" memory. The Disk usage was 100%. I was unable to open or close applications while the file transfer was in progress. I couldn't even type.
Is there a way to set priority while you're doing file transfers, thus leaving resources open to still use your computer?
I need to make a scrip that will only copy a file once. Then if that file is deleted from the destination and the script is run again, it will ignore that file, and move on to the next.
