Can't Decrypt / Restore Encrypted Folder
Oct 3, 2012
I have downloaded and used Kakasoft Shared folder protector to limit the access of some of my LAN-shared folders. The problem is that in my pc I had some "marica.exe" malware. Now, when I try to access my encrypted/protected folder I can only see this marica.exe and none of my files/folders. Hard disc appears to have 5GB of data on it, but how to restore them or fix this encrypted thing in order to make it work again? Note that i have not forgotten my password...

I bought a new PC few days ago and tried to using old harddisk and OS with it and failed badly. After some unlucky tries, I bought new harddisk and installed windows 7 in it (my old OS was Windows 7 also). I also plugged old harddisk into new PC so, I have new harddisk and new OS and old hard disk and old OS in my PC. I can access my old files but when I try to copy my documents folder to new harddisk, it gives me an error like "access denied". After some research, I know it's EFS related because files are green (it means, it's encrypted). EFS, I can't access my own files, I tried to change ownership but it didn't worked for me. I also can't change encryption settings because of my old user is gone.
Simply,
- I have some files encrypted via EFS in my old hdd,
- I have all my user and windows files of my old OS (probably EFS certificate files),
- I know my old username and password.
How can I decrypt my files? Is it possible?

I have a folder encrypted with BitLocker. I have reinstalled windows 7 and am trying to read or unencrypt the folder but it is never asking me for the key. It just says access denied. How do I install the key on the system or link the key to a user account?

I formatted my PC to another installation of Windows 7 Ultimate(also the one I had before the format).
Now before I formatted windows on drive C:, I encrypted a folder with Bitlocker. Now this folder was on another harddrive D: on my PC. After the format on C: drive, I cannot access any files in the encrypted folder anymore. The folder is color green(so are all the files inside) and when clicking on any file inside, it tells me "you don't have access to open this file".

I had certain partition on my HDD. I encrypted 1 whole partition using TrueCrypt. The partition is NOT where the Windows is installed. Now, I can Mount and Open the partition using the password which I mentioned earlier. What do I have to do to get the original partition decrypted and back as normal partition in HDD.I have some data in the partition, so I haven't tried anything by myself. By the TrueCrypt website, as I think they are saying is, mount the drive and just drag the files (or copy-paste the files) and they will be decrypted. Is that correct? I also had some programs installed in that partition, so where should I paste all the files? Do I need to create a new partition and paste everything there? Will the programs already installed in this partition will then work fine?

On our office pc at work with a 32gb ssd i decided to do a disk encryption so that there would be a password on boot, Everything seemed to be successful upon restart i get a bsod so i put in the recovery cd that was created and tried to decrypt the drive, It says it was successful but it was not, so i did it again and still no access, I put the windows cd in and it found unformatted space i reinstalled windows 7 but the old files were not there I put the hard drive in another pc and tried to decrypt it using the cd but i unplugged it before doing so and it started to decrypt the 32gb hard drive that is not even attached which leads me to believe that the drive is still encrypted, I did a data recovery but it did not find the old files so again i think the drive is still encrypted.

I recently obtained a newer Windows 7 Home Premium x64 machine (custom build) after my Windows XP Pro x32 machine (also custom) bit the dust. Now I'm using my old "C-drive" HD as an external HD. I want to access my old folders (very important stuff) but they are in green text. I've read that this means they are encrypted, which I never did intentionally. How do I access them now? I get a msg that I need permissions that I don't have. I've tried to grant my admin acct with "Full" permissions, but still can't access these folders.

This may be normal, but not normal to me. I just installed Win 7 a few days ago and am still learning after years on XP.When I open System Restore, I only get one restore option, and it's from last night. When I check the block for show more options there is no change even after I close/re-open Sys Restore.Doesn't the system create a new restore point on boot? Doesn't it keep older restore ponts? Also, I want all my files to open with large icons. In many of the folders I can't find a "view" option anywhere/anyway.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit (Ultimate). My build number 7600. I use the feature "Restore Previous Folder Windows at login". The window Explorer comes back up when I reboot. However, unlike WindowsXP, the window(s) come up at a different location and different size.
This is frustrating to me. I have a computer that I run lots of "test" software. I like to have 3-different Windows Explorer running at the same time. I have them at a specific size and location on my monitor for a reason. But like I explained earlier, at each boot up, everything is messed up.

Recently my computer was attacked by a virus. The virus made it so I couldn't access my C drive at all, but could still use all my start up progams. For some reason it also erased all of my desktop icons, except for diablo2 LOD (don't know why that one was still there....). Anyway, after removing viruses with malware bytes I did a system restore to about 2 weeks prior. After the computer was done everything seemed fine. Computer was running fine etc. My problem is files that were contained in my folders seem to have disappeared.
I know the files are still on the hard drive, but some of my folders disappeared (these are folders I created long before what the restore date was) making me unable to access the files unless I remember their names and can type them in the windows explorer. I discovered the files were still there when running a video game emulator, i clicked open rom, and just typed in the file name of one of my games I couldn't get to through my computer anymore, and it worked, game loaded up. How I can get my folders to come back, so I can easily access the files in them.

My laptop was getting BSoDs. I tried a system recovery but after it failed, I brought it to a computer shop where they tried three more reinstalls of Windows 7, and Vista to try fix it. I have four Windows.old files - Windows.old, Windows.old.000, Windows.old.001, Windows.old.002. I want to restore the files from my documents from my first version of Windows 7 but there are no files in the My Documents folder in Windows.old. Is it possible to recover the files.

System Restore will not create a restore point or restore to a previous date & time. The error message was: A restore point could not be created: An error was detected in the Volume Shadow Copy Server (VSS).The problem occurred while trying to contact VSS writers. Verify that the Event System Sevice and the VSS service are running & check for associated errors in the event logs (0x80042318).Volume Shadow Copy is started & running (done in system events).Event System Sevice and the VSS service are started and running. But no cigar, SR still broken.

I would like to have encrypted IM capabilities with one person. I don't want to download files. I don't want to use servers. I don't want to use any social networks. I simply want an encrypted way of communicating as near as real-time as possible - text only.

I've got a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate RTM and wireless LAN on my Lenovo 3000 N200 Notebook with Intel 3945abg wireless chip.I can't connect to wpa-psk encrypted networks although I installed the newest driver from Intel and tried an older version, too. The network adapter is installed correct in the device manager. If i use no encryption or WEP there is no problem, but i must use WPA-PSK.The network settings on my notebook and on the access point are 100% correct, and it worked fine with Windows Vista and the same hardware.

I encrypted a file using my other computer running Windows 7 and I just transfered it over. I try to open it, (I used TrueCrypt), and only on my laptop does it fail to open the file. I've tried opening it with TrueCrypt over and over but it doesn't register it.
I really need this file open or else I can't use the stuff in it for work.
