Windows Could Not Prepare Computer To Boot Into Next Phase Of Installation

Aug 13, 2012

Like 3 weeks ago the smarthdd malware affected my computer. The one where all your icons, files, etc. are hidden, gives you bogus security alerts, and then turns off the PC. Using support from the web with Rkill, MalwareBytes, and Hitman Pro. I eliminated the problem. While I thought I had recovered the computer I was wrong. Probably a day later I notice regedit would start when the computer was started and a few seconds later the computer would turn off. After turning on the computer a few times, the problem was gone. MSE is turned off. I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't turn on, saying the system needed to restart.

I also notices the computer would notify that Windows Update was also turned off and can't turn it on or download any updates (error: windows update cannot currently check for update, because the service is not running. You may need to restart the computer). Also, when I click the Nvidia settings icon, the computer does not detect video graphics hardware. I checked around a forum and I saw someone having the same problem and was advised to set BITS service and Windows Update service to start automatic. But when I check the services.msc, those services are gone. Also, I noticed that in the Device Manager, in System Devices, 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family PCI Express controller - 0101 has a yellow triangle sign on it.

On properties, it has this status: "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)". So I try uninstalling MSE and installing it again, but the problem persist there. I run several scans with different anti-virus/malare and while I do find a few malwares, fixing/deleting/quarantined them haven't solved the problem. Yet, one antivirus (eset nod) wouldn't install, after many tries when it got to a driver install stage. I also try windows fix it, but nothing was solved. Also tried kapersky TDSSkiller, and nothing was solved (though when initializing, it gives an error saying that 'Can't load driver", yet it continues initializing).

So then I tried chkdsk /r in the command prompt, but it throws off an error in the second stage, restarting the scan again continuously until I decide to skip the scan. Finally I decided I had enough and tried a repair install, but after the stage where it check the programs and settings, I get the error "windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation". Then out of resignation I tried doing a clean install, but it gives me the same error. Later ran sfc /scannow on command prompt, and the log said that it couldn't repair DDORes.dll. So then what I did was replace DDORes.dll with one from installation disk.

Nothing was solved, and sfc scan still gives me that DDORes.dll is corrupted and can't be repaired. Later I tried upgrading the Intel graphics driver and the Intel Display Audio Driver. After rebooting the resolution of the laptop changed from 1366 X 768 to 800 X 600 as default, and now i can't increase it over 1024 X 768. Device manager shows that now both the Intel HD Graphics 3000 and Intel Display Audio cannot start due to error: "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" Or any way to at least clean install the OS so I can get rid of this problems?

"Windows 7 Could Not Prepare The Computer To Boot Into The Next Phase Of Installation"?

Dec 28, 2010

I've got a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P mobo, and am trying to do a clean install of the Windows 7 trial edition. I was getting access errors, so after moving my memory around, and trying different sticks, I've come to a configuration which is getting me through that problem, but I've reached another problem. After the fourth step(I believe they are "Copying files, expanding files, installing features, installing updates"), the computer hangs for a minute or so then gives me the error message "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next stage of the installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."I've retried this three times to no avail, and googled the problem, but the majority of the answers I am finding for this are for people upgrading from Windows Vista

Upgrading To 32bit Windows 7- Could Not Boot To Next Phase?

Jan 13, 2011

i'm trying to upgrade from vista 32 bit to 7 32bit using an official CD. Doing a clean install isnt something I can do b/c I dont want to lose everything on my harddrive. When I do the upgrade I get the error "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation." I've tried disabling everything but microsoft services at bootup before installing, but to no avail. The compatibility checker thing doesn't come up with any problems before installation.I've got over 20gigs of space still on my harddrive, so I don't think that's the problem. I've also run the chkdsk utility from the command prompt, but I don't think it found anything.

Computer Fails To Boot Into Windows After Sp1 Installation

Mar 10, 2011

i've had some issues installing sp1 (7 ultimate, latest windows updates) via windows update when the installation fails on a few different error codes, but i have gotten it to install a few times. each time the installation finishes, i restart the computer when prompted and it goes through the update process when shutting down, then after the windows 7 splash screen ("starting windows") passes, the screen goes blank (black screen, no video- monitor displays "going to sleep" message) and the HDD light on the computer is lit solid. i've left the computer sitting for hours with no change- i eventually get Windows to boot again by using the install disc to do a Windows restore, but i haven't been able to get past this yet.

I load up windows onto a USB, boot it and click the repair option. It's been about half an hour and nothing has shown up. Is it still loading or perhaps something is very wrong with my PC?

Windows 7 Starter Wipe And Prepare For Resell?

Jul 31, 2010

I purchased a Toshiba NB-205 netbook a while back (why did I do that again?) and now I'm trying to prepare it for selling on ebay. Now, I did have it sent to me originally with Windows 7 Starter (again, why starter? xD) instead of XP which will boost its value in my opinion, but I have some problems:

1) My netbook did get some virus which I can't remember what it's called but it basically tries to imitate Norton anti-virus into making me purchase some crapware that doesn't even exist or something like that. Anyway, I couldn't really remove it, and it's one of the reasons I ultimately decided I want to just reformat and sell. Also just to get some extra cash

2) I was wondering how I could eliminate the virus by reformatting perhaps? But I still would like to keep Windows 7 on it if possible... If not possible, it would be better to advertise no software than Virus-ridden so I guess if I can't keep 7, I'll just reformat.

Windows 7 Installation - Computer Shuts Off During Installation?

Jun 29, 2011

I just bought a new hard drive and a brand new Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit disc and I am doing a clean install on the new hard drive. it seems that everything is going normal, but at a random time during the installation, the computer just shuts off.sometimes it doesn't even get to the installation when it shuts off. sometimes it shuts off in the middle of the "windows is loading files..." black screen. there are no beeps when it shuts off or when I turn it back on. there are also no error codes.whenever i turn it back on it simply acts as if it never tried to install windows and starts the boot all over from the disc

Partitioning Drive To Prepare

Jul 22, 2009

I've got a 320GB drive on a Vista Premium Home notebook.

Few user files are actually on the notebook, rather the files are on my desktop, and are processed via the network, or temporarily copied to the notebook.

Currently, C drive is 285.04GB with 246GB free.

HP's recovery partition is 13.05GB, with 2.4GB free.

I am going to shrink the C drive, so I can add a separate partition for my own files, this partition could be shared with Windows 7.

How much space should I leave for Windows 7 Home?

I would end up with the following partitions:

C: For Vista

H: For Howard's files

W: For Windows 7 Home

Unallocated: Likely 32GB, in case I wish to add Ubuntu Linux.

D: Recovery partition for HP. I use image backup so this is not really useful.

How To Prepare To Upgrade Mobo And CPU

Jan 24, 2012

In a few days I will be upgrading from my AMD 965 Black and Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 to an Intel i5 2500k and GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD4. I was curious as to what you all thought I could do to minimize effort and problems restoring my system settings, programs, and data files after a clean install of Windows 7.I currently have 3 HDDs; A 640GB for my OS (C: ), a 1TB for Programs and User files (D: ) (Pics, Docs, DVDs, etc.), and a 500GB (E: ) for Win7 backups. I also have a NAS (\NAS) with 500GB. At this point I have good User File backups on E: and am now creating IFW drive images of C: and D: onto the NAS. I have also generated reports from SIW (Hardware, Software, and Network) and Win7's System Settings from the Advanced Tools control panel.

and when trying to open Phase 22 control panel i get:

"couldn't load...something..."

I got an onboard soundcard and i have Radeon 4870 HD sound installed also.

Crashing / Restarting During Startup Phase - Error 41 On New Build

Mar 24, 2012

My brand new computer I just built is crashing and restarting without a reason I can find. My System health report won't be very accurate because I need to run OCCT stress test in the background to slow down the amount of times it crashes.

I have run memtest for 12 hours - No errors.
My CPU is cooled by a H100 - temps never go above 40c even under load.
CPU - i5 - 2500k
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
PSU - Antec 750w

Even on a fresh install it will crash during the setup phase, like where you put in product code and username. Leading me to think its a Hardware issue.

"Windows Could Not Complete The Installation, To Install Windows On This Computer, Restart The Installation"

Apr 16, 2012

First, my laptop is a Aspire 5250-BZ853. I received it back in October, I think...may've been earlier. But anyhow, it was working just fine yesterday until I did a Windows Update. I had to restart, and it was fine again. But then it began running sluggishly slow, and just terrible overall so I restarted it once more and that was when the problems began.

This entire day, this has been driving me nuts. I have important files on here, and I backed up most on my external harddrive a bit ago but there were a few I missed and hadn't the chance to get (ironically enough the most important, papers and such.) At first, it said my password was wrong -- as if someone had changed it! I restarted it once more, thinking it an error or something, and did that again so I restarted it again. Finally, it worked but I think it logged me in as safe mode somehow. After that, it restarted on its own and began this loop. I did a LOT of searching on Google until finally someone suggested to someone else to try pressing "ALT + F10" I think it was as it was starting, and finally I made progress. Before that, it was just going into a constant rebooting loop and I couldn't even log into safe mode. Trying to reset it back to a time it was working was futile, because it said there was no recovery time there! So that shot that idea down. At last, I got somewhere.as well. I clicked the reset to factory settings, but still keep all the files (and they would be saved to "C:Backup" and I thought it had finally worked. But now as it reinstalls, I got an error saying something about how it needed to restart or something...so when I clicked "okay" it began again, and finally it all just came to a stop on "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

Windows 7 Installation Boot?

Jun 28, 2010

I currently have 4 drives. I had Vista on my primary drive1, no OS secondary slave drive, Linux on my sata drive1, and Windows 7 64x on my sata drive2. I recently deleted Vista and installed windows 7 86x on my primary drive. Before installing Windows 7 86x the windows boot option gave me the choice to choose between the three OS and now it does not. The Windows 7 x64 drive is accessible and I'm able to view all folders but I can't get it to boot and that is where I have all my programs and work.

How can I get the boot manager to recognize my windows 7 64x drive which is not the primary drive?

Windows 7 Won't Boot After Installation Of New RAM

Nov 30, 2012

Recently i decided to stick some extra RAM in my old computer as 2GB didn't seem like enough. After removing the 2x 1gb sticks and putting in everything (2x 2gb and 2x 1gb) when i got to windows boot up screen it took a while to load, and then froze. I played around with the RAM, tried only one of the 2gb in all 4 DDR2 slots and it booted perfectly, i did the same with other 2gb stick and same result so it isnt the RAM, and neither does it seem its the slots. Did the same thing with the 1gb and fine. tried every permutations involving the 4 sticks but whenever i top 2gb windows freezes.I read around first and looked at similar problems people have had on this, and so i cleared the CMOS and updated the BIOS but still the same result (didn't do all permutations this time). Can I get a boot file that will boot from USB? Or since I can see the 7 drive from XP, could I add a file to Win7? I checked on EasyBCD that is supposed to work, but I' use RollBack and it won't work with RollBack installed. I'm afraid to uninstall RollBack since it has saved me so many times in the past.

Cannot Boot To Windows 7 Installation Disk

My diagnostics come back successful as well. I'm on a Dell Studio 1735 (from 2008). I'm really at a lost as to why it's not booting to the DVD. I'm currently typing this from my Ubuntu partition; I don't have convenient access to a Windows machine at this point.
