I made a restore point before I installed multipoint so now I want to use it but when I go to start>accessories>system tools - Its not there. Even if I type in "System restore" in the start menu nothing comes up so did multipoint disable or remove it? (I am in maintenance mode).
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs reported elsewhere, I had some issues with my Win 7 installation which involved more fiddling than needed but most everything is working again. Why more than needed? In the list of possible solutions, I was given the one that fixed the big problem last. C'est la vie. Now, I get to fiddle with fixing little problems. The latest is that Windows Fax and Scan are no longer workingI have a modem in my computer solely for when I send faxes. With the way that they keep eliminating slots on motherboards, I don't know what I'll do when I upgrade but that's neither here nor there. Back to the story.
A couple weeks ago, I sent a fax without any issues. Today, I needed to send one and Window Fax and Scan couldn't find the modem. When I click on "Connect to a fax modem" I get "an error occured. Please try the operation later."I opened a console and sent some AT commands to the modem and it responded. Off hook, on hook, dial. It is set as COM 3. I do have a Bluetooth dongle that is COM 6.Before Win 7, I used WinFax Pro. I had been using WinFax for years and years and never had a problem. However, WinFax Pro doesn't work with Win 7. One last question. When I started up WFS, it no longer shows my previously sent faxes. Where are those hidden?

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to schedule/automate a rollback to a system restore point at a set time each day? What i'm trying to do is:1. Disable the standard system restore behavior for creating restore points when installing apps and drivers.2. Automatically/schedule a restore point to be created every morning. (probably using Task Scheduler)3. Automatically/schedule a rollback to that morning restore point every night. This should allow users to mess up the workstation during the day, and restore a working rollback point at night when users are not using a workstation.Updates are scheduled at nighttime, so before that happens, it should rollback to a good restore point, apply updates, then create a working "new" restore point with the updates in the morning....etc.

Yes I know I could possibly do it in 'Safe Mode' but that isn't an answer as to why I can't do it in regular mode?

My machine is running fine and I'm getting no warnings but I want to know what files I deleted and if there's a way to get these files back without losing everything that I reinstalled. With MSE running a full scan can take upwards of 5 plus hours and sometimes even longer.......this scan that is now running started at 10:43am and time elapsed since start is 07:58:05 and counting and is only half way through. This is the beta version I'm running and the version before still took a long time but not like this version.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a toshiba with a windows 7 64bit, and it's been acting really slow recently and freezing up on me so I thought there might be viruses that I needed to get rid of, so I restarted my computer so I could go in safe mode with networking to check if there really were. When I restarted my computer I momentarily forgot to press the f8 key and the windows starting screen with the logo showed up. Without thinking I turned off my computer since I didn't want to restart again (it took forever for the computer to do). Once I turned the laptop on again I ended up going to system repair. For some reason this did nothing to my computer. I left it on for hours and hours until I finally decided I wasn't going to get any results. I once again restarted the laptop but this time when I went to system repair I cancelled it and when into more options and tried doing a system restore which also didn't work and said a bunch of my files couldn't be read. When I looked back at the system repair log it said "system volume on disk is corrupt." I googled it trying to find something to help me, and every place said to run sfc scan, which I did on command prompt, which always gave me the reply "there's a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete" and since my computer can't reboot properly no matter what this is what it'll say. Is there some way to run this scan or another way to fix my computer without having to lose all my data? I have some really important files on here. I've also tried running chkdsk /r /f in command prompt which it wouldn't let me do and said it can't lock the current drive because the type of file sytem is NTFS.

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive. The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.
