'system Volume On Disk Is Corrupt' And Sfc Scan Not Working

Jun 9, 2012

I have a toshiba with a windows 7 64bit, and it's been acting really slow recently and freezing up on me so I thought there might be viruses that I needed to get rid of, so I restarted my computer so I could go in safe mode with networking to check if there really were. When I restarted my computer I momentarily forgot to press the f8 key and the windows starting screen with the logo showed up. Without thinking I turned off my computer since I didn't want to restart again (it took forever for the computer to do). Once I turned the laptop on again I ended up going to system repair. For some reason this did nothing to my computer. I left it on for hours and hours until I finally decided I wasn't going to get any results. I once again restarted the laptop but this time when I went to system repair I cancelled it and when into more options and tried doing a system restore which also didn't work and said a bunch of my files couldn't be read. When I looked back at the system repair log it said "system volume on disk is corrupt." I googled it trying to find something to help me, and every place said to run sfc scan, which I did on command prompt, which always gave me the reply "there's a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete" and since my computer can't reboot properly no matter what this is what it'll say. Is there some way to run this scan or another way to fix my computer without having to lose all my data? I have some really important files on here. I've also tried running chkdsk /r /f in command prompt which it wouldn't let me do and said it can't lock the current drive because the type of file sytem is NTFS.

Boot Sector For System Disk Partition Is Corrupt?

Jan 15, 2013

My wife shout down her computer this morning took it on remote location for work today but never booted it up. When she got back home tonight it wouldn't boot up. I don't know what to call these screen but some Startup Repair screen. Just says Repair action: Boot sector repair, Result: Failed.I downloaded and burned to CD the boot CD for the MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition but I don't know what disk I am even looking for. I see 3 partitions listed for one disk. The only one with a label is BDEDrive and it's 300 MB. The other two have *: as what I would call a label. One is 297.79 GB and the other is 12.34 MB. The BDEDrive is the only with with status of Active. NTFS on that partition and Other on the big partition.

Disk Volume Error - Run System File Checker

Feb 19, 2010

the tip to run SFC -- I'm not sure where the 'command prompt' is now in Windows 7.

What I did was search for sfc, right click, then run as administrator.

It appears something is running, but no window opened to ask or tell me anything. I checked Task Mgr and Resource Monitor and can't find anything resembling SFC, but there is activity even tho' I'm not doing anything else. The hard drive light is also flickering about once per second. What should I expect? Do I just wait patiently? How can I confirm SFC is running and fixing any errors?

Stuck On Starting Windows - Repair Shows System Volume On Disk Corrupted

Oct 19, 2011

I have had Win 7 installed for a while now).

Here is a summary of my problem:
1) My computer recently got stuck on the "Starting Windows Screen." So I manually held the power button to reboot.
2) On reboot, it said there was a need to run a startup repair, which I did. Everything checked fine, except for the last one which said "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted," which it claimed to have successfully fixed.
3) After rebooting from repair, the system gets stuck on "Starting Windows Screen" for a good 10-15 minutes, after which it runs a registry check. After it completes that I get hopeful -- but the screen then gets stuck on an all black screen with just the mouse cursor and nothing more.
4) Additional note: Attempting to start the computer on "safe mode" leads safe mode startup to become stalled on "DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS"
5) The lastest attempt to repair yielded this message: "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

May 18, 2009

I was wondering if this msdt.exe corrupt error is caused by a win32 worm?

A Chkdsk was performed but errors keep happening. Also this msdt.exe error pops up while browsing the internet.

I am trying to help somebody else with this issue.... my own pc is ok.

Files Corrupt After Copy To Usb Hard Disk

Feb 13, 2010

Lately I had problems playing video-files (hd content, mkv container) on my WD HD TV. Turned out that the files were corrupted when after copying to the usb disk. First I was afraid my Intel X25-m was the culprit, but windiff proved that the error occurred after copying, and there was a difference between the file on my SSD and the copy on the usb disk.

After trying all the USB ports on my laptop (MSI pr200, T7700, 4GB, Windows 7 HP 64), the CABLE proved to be the culprit. I use different cables, the one causing problems was an old motorola razr....After trying the cable that came with the 500GB Verbatim USB disk the problem is gone, and windiff says the files are equal.Just to let you searchers know (fingers crossed!): issue seems to be resolved by using a good cable.

With MSE running a full scan can take upwards of 5 plus hours and sometimes even longer.......this scan that is now running started at 10:43am and time elapsed since start is 07:58:05 and counting and is only half way through. Trying to save it fails until I hit retry, but the downloaded file prompts the "open with" box. This is a brand new machine and install. The only thing I really did was follow the tutorial on here to move the default locations for my files. Oh, and if I transfer the file from a zip drive, it works fine.

System Corrupt SFC Won't Work?

May 27, 2011

I'm looking into a relative's PC running Windows 7 Home Premium and it's giving me quite a lot of errors.I can't say exactly what the problem is, but several messages/errors led me to believe that a system repair of corrupt/missing files was in order:- Example 1: Control Panel >> Programs >> Turn Windows features on or off: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. Same error comes up when I try to run CMD as Administrator. - Example 2: Opening pictures with Windows' default picture viewer produced an error. This led me to believe that maybe just the picture viewer was corrupt, but then I saw WMP wouldn't run either, and different system options wouldn't work (as in Ex. 1).

I looked around and found that the appropriate files actually did exists, but still wouldn't run for some reason (e.g. WMP, Picture Viewer, etc.)So I decided to run "sfc /scannow" which, at first, just popped up and then immediately closed. Then I tried running it from the Windows 7 installation DVD, via Safe Mode, and via other accounts. In most cases, it said it was starting and that "This will take some time", and a few seconds later "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".I also tried "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c: /offwindir=c:windows" and the same via the installation DVD, in which case I used "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d: /offwindir=d:windows" instead.I Googled a lot and nothing seems to work. I'd really like to restore this system back into working condition without losing any personal data. Yes, I've already backed it up.

Can A GPT Boot Disk Be Converted To A Basic Volume

Feb 3, 2013

I was setting up a Win7 new build with an Asus P8B75-V and an SSD. Although I previously have done clean installs with UEFI motherboards and SSDs, this time the install DVD created a GPT volume on the boot disk (much to my surprise and which I discovered opnly after loading all the apps, moving the email, etc, etc.).

Knowing a lot more about basic MBR volumes (and how to fix problems), I would like to convert the GPT to a basic volume. I have Acronis DiskDIrector 11 which can convert the GPT to MBR, but when I tried that, it rendered the disk unbootable. (The conversion resulted in a 124MB unallocated space, followed by a 100MB FAT32 volume (!?!?!), and then the rest of the drive as NTFS.)

Is there a way to convert a boot disk from GPT to basic and have it be bootable? Is there anything that can be done with the converted HD to make it bootable?

Disk Management Tool Won't Allow New Simple Volume

Feb 8, 2012

I'm trying to create a new simple volume in 130 GB free disk space. There's no obvious reason why it would refuse to do so - I'm not at the hard limit on number of partitions or anything - but disk management MSC is consistently returning "Not enough space" errors. The only thing I can think of is something to do with the partition order, but if so I have no idea how to fix it non-destructively. I'm in the middle of backups on it, so deleting partitions is a no-go. At the moment I don't understand what's going on.

DISKPART output (Win 7 x64):
Code: DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
-------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disk 0 Online 232 GB 134 GB

System File Replaced But Still Corrupt?

Jul 25, 2012

I had Windows Vista and I upgraded using the 'clean install' to Windows 7. I had been experiencing BSODs (blue screen of death) and I thought a re-install, or an upgrade would solve those issues. However, I continue getting those BSODs now with Windows 7 as well.I can't quite recall the stop errors and names, but they were mostly IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I also had 'memory management' sometimes.Recently I powered on my computer and realized everything was running slowly, and I've noticed the BSODs have stopped. I ran everything, anti- malware, virus, spyware programs and they found nothing. I ran memory diagnostics and it came up with nothing. There's nothing really on this computer to be slowing it down since I haven't fully replaced all my files and it's a new OS.The only thing that found anything out of place was after running SFC /scannow, the CBS.log file says this in several places:

[code]...

What I could understand from that is it's saying that a file, called msdrm.dll.mui, is corrupt. Apparently it's in the 'en-US' folder (assuming). It also says on the last line, 'file is missing'.Now, I've replaced from the actual Windows 7 installation CD, the file msdrm.dll.mui in the en-US folder, and in another folder that had the same file. After restarting, the computer still runs sluggishly. My question is, why would the system file still be corrupt even after replacing it from the installation CD? The CD is fine, no scratches or anything like that, and it's virtually new. Also, could my system be missing something that the file msdrm.dll.mui needs to function properly? (I ask this because it says 'file missing') What can I do about this system file to fix it?Note: I looked up the system file msdrm.dll.mui and I read that it's needed for system performance (and performance right now is my issue so I'm guessing this is what's making my computer run slugglishly).

Corrupt System Files Or Virus?

Apr 5, 2012

My daughter has a Gateway laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. We have 4gig RAM installed. The other day she tried to create a folder on the desktop. However, she was not able to do that and was also not able to click on any icon on the desktop at all.She restarted the computer and it seemed to fix itself. However, the next day it happened again.Does this sound like a corrupt system file or a virus? We have PC Tools Internet Security on her laptop and it says there are no viruses. Also, not sure if this is related, but the computer takes over 15 minutes to shut down. Actually, I don't know exactly how long it takes because after 15 minutes she gets frustrated and just holds down the power button to force it to shut down. There are no updates available - we have checked and it says there are none.
